Live a Piece of History at My Hilo Home

Enter the home onto the grand lanai (porch) which is fully screened in and offers a view of the manicured acre with Hilo Bay views in the distance. Through the front doors you'll be greeted by our huge living room. The original hardwood floors and plantation era architectural details are unique to Hilo homes from the 1920s and 1930s. This huge living area has a game table with board games available, a large flat-screen TV and DVD player, high-speed WiFi internet and luxurious lounging area big enough for your whole family. NOTE: there are no TV channels so bring your streaming login info!

There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms in the home that are artfully decorated with historic representations of 'old Hawaii'. The kitchen at the back of the house is bright and full of windows to take in your Hawaiian landscape. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need to cook a big meal or heat up your restaurant leftovers. Seating for 6 at the kitchen table with additional seating on the lanai or at the living room game table.

My Hilo Home is planted with lots of tropical fruiting trees and plants. Enjoy juicy pineapples from our pineapple patch in summer months, tangy lychee from our ancient lychee tree in spring and citrus in the winter. There is also a breadfruit tree for those adventurous travelers who want to try a unique starch (please follow in-house instructions on preparing the difficult fruit!).

Four comfortable bedrooms line one side of the private home. Three of the bedrooms have queen size beds and the fourth has two twin beds (max occupancy is 8 guests). Each of the two bathrooms has a marble shower and one bathroom has a small bathtub. A pack-n-play is available for our guests with babies. The kitchen has an electric cook-top, electric oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer/dryer for laundry. All kitchen dishes and small appliances are available for your use. The house is immaculately cleaned between guests (at check-out) and mid-stay cleaning is an optional add-on.

This is a Hawaii County licensed short term rental.

Lanai lounging
It was a lovely house to spend nearly 2 weeks in. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We picked lots of fruit from the property, lounged on the lanai, and had fun watching the planes and geckos eating insects. The large yard was very nice to have young children use up some energy. The proximity to the downtown and beaches, while still being 'out of town,' was excellent.

Quiet family getaway in Hilo
We just wrapped up our wedding and wanted a few quiet days with family to unwind from all the festivities. This house was unique, large enough for our family of 5 adults & 2 kids, great views and a bit quirky/historical in All the best ways. My only critique is that while there are lots of eating tables in different areas, there isn’t one big enough for everyone to sit at if you have a group bigger than 4.

Plantation house
I can’t say enough about the amazing plantation house! Our daughter and her family joined us for part of our stay. We spent evenings in the large screened in porch, enjoying the skies and all the fun night sounds. Even the frogs😉 loved the little black and white cat that visited us daily! The location was ideal for us as well. Able to drive to the volcano park easily. And along to coast to Waimea We would definitely recommend My Hilo House!

Hilo holiday
A very spacious plantation house with character and charm. Well-equipped kitchen with lots of prep space. Little bit of noise from traffic on the road, but otherwise lovely and quiet. Pleasant outdoor lanai to enjoy the lush gardens. Minor suggestions: the grill could use a clean and some paintwork needs to be done in the kitchen and bathrooms. Overall, a great place to stay on the outskirts of Hilo with a view of the harbor.

Hilo Stay
Most of the time pictures on VRBO make the house look bigger than it actually is...not the case here! This place is great! Wonderful kitchen with fantastic view, awesome screened in porch and comfortable beds! Easy access to Hilo town and just a 2 mile run up to Rainbow Falls. We had such a relaxing time! Note: there is a really sweet kitty who apparently is not supposed to be fed but sure is a lover!

Plantation Homecoming
House was clean and well stocked but yard was overgrown almost to the knees. We had 4 children under 12 that could not play outside. Called the property manager who said she’ll request yard work but no one came. Our stay was for one week.

Rustic Stay in Hilo
Overall we really enjoyed our trip to Hawaii, but we spent most of our time away from the house. Upon arrival, it was very warm inside, even with all of the windows open and fans running; after the first day, the weather cooled off a bit and got cloudier, which seemed to help with the indoor temperature for the rest of our stay. While some may very much enjoy the charm/rustic nature of this house, it wasn't exactly what we were expecting - the frogs at night were extremely loud, we dealt with flying termites and ants in the bedrooms and kitchens, and we encountered multiple geckos in the kitchen, which left their droppings on various surfaces (and if not cleaned up promptly, a stream of ants would soon be seen). A cat also came by every time we ate a meal in the home, which was a bit of a nuisance. On the plus side, it was located very close to downtown Hilo and Rainbow Falls, and it was about a 45 minute drive to Volcanoes National Park (which was awesome!). Overall it wasn't a great fit for us, and we would not stay again. However, if you're into more of a camping/rustic feel, I think you'd be quite satisfied.

Such a charming place
Our family and us all traveled from Texas to Hawaii to celebrate our wedding. This house was perfect for our needs and allowed us to all stay in one location together. We loved the fact the house had alot of charm and enjoyed the porch and views. We had to contact the house management a couple of times and they were easy to get ahold of and promply addressed our needs. They were very personable as well. Thank you for such a great experience.

Great Stay in Hilo
We appreciated staying at My Home in Hilo. Everything about it was excellent but especially the veranda and the kitchen. The location and ambiance of the space was perfect. So appreciated the super responsiveness of the management company. We have already recommended this space to others who we know visit the Big Island...and look forward to our own return.
