This was my second time staying at a hostel ever and as an immigrant Asian American I can tell you now that you should do a little due diligence to get a feel for what type of hostel you want to stay at. This was more of a community and the travelers there that want to share experiences with each other. I didn’t understand this until I found out days later that there was a community chat. All in all it was a good experience where I made more friends and spent some adventures with other travelers.
The staff overall was very friendly. The property was fixed up nicely, good secure lockers, and fun things to do in Hilo. The free tours were a great surprise. I enjoyed the Kona Beach day, Green Sand Beach hike and the chasing waterfalls (twice). Cool people from around the world... Very Spective Earthian!
Great place. Everything you need! But my experience was a very nice girl the initial night turned into a not nice person the next night in the kitchen. Literally pushed her way through and was slamming pots, pan and plates. So much attitude. Totally RUDE and unmerited.
Hopefully this was just bad luck and a bad mood. Maybe she needs a vacation.
Travel is about humility not attitude.
The place itself was stellar. If you happen to run into this gem set her straight…she is kid, working in a hostel that needs to grow up.
