BEAUTIFUL cabin with amazing views!!
The cabin and property grounds were beautiful! We really enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit, and views! It was so peaceful and a nice getaway from city life. The host left a bottle of wine and a bag of coffee, which was very thoughtful. The bedroom on the main is great for those who cannot climb the stairs. The kitchen is well-equipped along with all the basic supplies. We had a great time visiting several of the local waterfalls and trails. We will definitely be back! Loved it!!

We enjoyed our time together at the Lodge and definitely will plan to stay again. Location was perfect for us and lots of room to spread out as a family. Play room was a huge hit with younger crowd and hot tub was great.

Our family recently stayed at this lovely property. The standouts were the fantastic scenery from the property, great for family entertainment & feeling of truly being in the North Carolina Mountains. We would re-visit this property again James Henderson

Great cabin, awesome location
Great location near Highlands but private mountain getaway. Loved the Highlands Hiker book owners left with great tips on nearby hikes. Jacuzzi and fire pit and great views! Awesome huge cabin with tons of games and ping pong table and foosball- we never ran out of things to do!

Best stay ever!
This was such a wonderful experience in an amazing house with incredible views. The hosts were very accommodating and responsive. The house is nicely decorated and gives you the quintessential mountain experience. My kids didn’t run out of any activities and had a blast playing in the game room and outside. We will absolutely stay here again. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality!

Great place!
Cabin was great! Hands down the most well stocked VRBO rental I’ve ever seen. Owner was very responsive to any needs when we were there and checked in with us during the stay. Game room was great for the kids. It was just 4 of us so plenty of room to spare. Met all expectations and hope to come back some day.

Best vacation ever!
It was like going to a 5 star resort in the beautiful mountains. The cabin was gorgeous and fully stocked with everything you could ever need for a great vacation. Chef's kitchen with top of the line appliances, beautiful rock fireplace, very comfortable beds with all the linens, breathtaking views of the mountains. Very private and a great place to get away from it all without being too far from town. The owner was very easy to contact and attentive to needs. Will definitely come back.

Fabulous Property
We enjoyed every minute we were at Hunter's Lodge. It is a fantastic property. The view from the porch is amazing. What a perfect place to spend Thanksgiving and with the outdoor area it would be fantastic in the summer. The property is large so you never feel like anyone is nearby. Your kitchen is amazingly equipped. The only thing we felt missing were wine glasses, but that was no big deal. We could definitely tell, based on some of your decor, you must enjoy wine as much as we do. Thank you again for having such a wonderful home and sharing it with us. MHS

Our family had a wonderful stay at hunter's lodge! Well equipped, just as good as the photos, and beautiful scenery all around. The one drawback was poor lighting, as many light bulbs were out (this happened in several rooms). There is excellent hiking in the area, gorgeous waterfalls along the road to town, and friendly businesses in highlands.

Arrived late October for some COOL & COLOR and received both. House was perfect for us. Extremely well equipped mountain home with great views off expansive porch. DJ was very responsive to a minor issue we had getting it fixed within hours of our reporting. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Weekend trip
Nice property about 5 miles from downtown highlands. With great views from huge deck and from bedroom balconies. Very clean. Bed upstairs was so comfortable, I complained when I got Home. WiFi can be a little spotty, but that’s part of the deal when you’re in the mountains.

Whimsical mountain cabin
We had a great stay at the cabin. The view was wonderful and it was very peaceful. My only suggestions would be the kitchen. It was lacking in dish soap and dishwasher detergent. Some of the cookware needed to be washed before use. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay!

Beautiful mountain cabin
We absolutely loved this house. We had 4 adults and 4 1/2 kids. The children loved the bunk bed room. The other 2 rooms with queens were very comfortable, clean and had great views. The house was very well kept and fully stocked with everything we needed. The views were incredible. We cooked smores in the fire pit one night and the children loved it. About a 15-20 min very windy drive to Highlands, but worth it. I would definitely recommend this cabin to others and we will hopefully get to return ourselves!

Beautiful cabin, but hot tub did not heat up
The cabin was very nice, in fact in real life it still looked nicer than in the pictures. Foosball and ping pong table were great, too. Unfortunately, the hot tub did not heat up (and was too strongly chlorinated), which was a bummer, particularly after a day of rafting. Communication was friendly, but we would have liked to receive the check-in information a bit sooner. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would rent it again.

Rustic with great views
Beautiful setting, enjoyed our stay. Scenic drive into Highlands, only about 15 mins away. Plenty of parking space, great covered entry access for unloading and loading. Game room was fun with ping pong and foosball. Chess set and tic tac toe were also a hit. Mountain views and sunrises were awesome! Light snow on our drive up made for an exceptional wake up mountain view the next morning. Nice trail to hike right on property. DJ was very responsive and provided answers for all of our questions. Very quiet area and very relaxing. We had AWD with snow mode and had no issues navigating the driveway with light snow and ice. Indoor gas fireplace with switch to start was so easy and used it multiple times. Thanks for a nice long weekend!

Idyllic
From the moment we rolled up to the front door of Hunter's Lodge, we knew we were in for a wonderful girl's weekend! Everything you have seen in the photos is accurately represented....only better. We all had our own bedrooms and bathrooms. Every creature comfort was addressed. However, as beautiful and comfortable the house was, we spent the majority of our time out on the back porch. We started in the morning with a cup of coffee and wound up the day looking at the stars. I can't wait to plan another trip to the Highlands and bring my husband. ***** for sure!!!!!

Great house for family/group
We really enjoyed all that this house had to offer. The view is fantastic, and the setup of the house lends itself well to spending time together in shared spaces as well as having plenty ’s own. We had trouble with the hot tub not getting above 95 degrees, which was never resolved. There were also two non-working door knobs onto the porch, which limited porch access to one door. This seems like something the homeowner and guests would want to have fixEd asap. We would eagerly rent this house again if these issues were rectified. It is a lovely place.

Memories with kids
Our family takes a trip around Christmas every year. We have three children of various ages to try to entertain. I have been looking at this property for about two years and saved it on my iPhone bookmark. So thrilled that we were able to rent it! We had several challenges during our trip but truthfully the house pulled us through. You can’t predict the weather!!! Unfortunately several of the plans I had were impossible because of flooding rain. There were moments two of the days that we were able to enjoy the hot tub! Awesome!!!!! The kitchen is a nice surprise. I loved that it had quality knives and nice cookware and serving bowls, platters etc... I already knew it was beautiful from the pictures but I was thrilled how functional it was. Our family looks forward to returning to this property and enjoying all the parks and hiking trails that are available in the area. This is a wonderful home base for your family while on vacation.

Very Disappointed with the Property Manager/Owner
Over all the property is nice and secluded, everything we were hoping for. Here are the issues we had though. First: the house is rather dark, especially the upstairs, this is mainly because several of the bulbs were out in chandeliers that could not be easily reached. Second: the out door fire place did not work at all, the property manager indicated they’d send someone out but didn’t happen. Lastly: if you shower in the upstairs master water will leak through the light fixture in the downstairs bathroom. This did not bother us, I understand this is a home not a hotel. What got me is that they have tried to levy additional charges for leaving “un-bagged garbage” in their bins. We did leave a wine box with empty bottles and a beer box in them and for this they are trying to bill us for an additional $125 dollars. Looking through other comments they have done similar things to others. I would not recommend this place unless you are willing to pay for additional charges after you leave. I have never had issues like this before with VRBO properties, this one however was rather disappointing after the fact.

Hunter's Lodge - nice place BUT!!!
We planned a 3 night stay at Hunter's Lodge. We have rented homes through VRBO before so we knew what to expect. The house is very nice as described well on the web. We checked into the house and noticed that the refrigerator had not been clean. No big deal we thought, but as my daughter set her bag down, she complained something bit her. We assume a flea, again a nuisance but not a huge problem, except that a tick showed up 30 minutes later at the same area. We then noticed that the parts of the house were not cleaned at all or poorly cleaned. My wife and I didn't want to sleep in the Master Bedroom as their was a hair in the sheets and bed smelled of perfume like the sheets were re-used. Further issues were the master shower had part of the door coming off, and then someones dark hair on the shower floor (NICE). We tried to sleep in another room with the kids as they were not comfortable with the house at that point. When we tucked them in, we notice one of the dark sheets had a prior stain. Note to owner don't make beds with stains!!!! IT IS DISGUSTING, especially at the rate we were paying. After utter exhaustion, we decided to sleep in the master bed. I sent the owner an email that evening, letting him know of the issues and could he send someone over to clean the house while we were rafting for the entire day. The owner was very responsive to prior emails when he wanted to book the house and take our money, but never sent an email or called me at all. Overall this was not a nice experience and had to fight the family to stay the 2 extra nights, but we were stuck as he had our money. Would never recommend this place to anyone.

Gorgeous Property w lots of frustration
This is a gorgeous property that is a SOLID 15 minute drive outside the Highlands on very curvy roads. When we arrived, the property was not fully clean (candy wrappers laying around, dust all over base boards). When we reached to the owner, she was responsive in sending her cleaning people to do a more thorough job and we thought we were in the clear and could focus on enjoying our time. This was short-lived as we then had an ant infestation to contend with in the kitchen. The owner responded to the issue by dropping off ant traps which we were then asked to place. We were not told to remove them after 24 hours and the impact of that was that we were then greeted by many more, even larger, ants over the next 24 hours. One evening we spent 2.5 hours trying to get rid of ants. Finally after a few more days, the owner arranged for her housekeeper and maintenance crew to provide a treatment for the ant situation and the problem dissipated. It was clear that she would not invest in an exterminating company but was committed to handling the issue w her maintenance guy who was getting info on how to handle the ants from the internet. In addition to the ants, at the outset of our time, we realized the blender in the kitchen was non-functional and requested a new one. The owner was initially responsive to the request, but upon follow-up, she advised the blender was on back order and did I have time to pick one up while in town (which I felt was an unreasonable request). Finally, the day before we were scheduled to depart (we stayed for 12 days), the new blender arrived. Since checking out from the property, we have had ongoing communication with the owner regarding compensation (i.e. partial refund) for all of our challenges while staying at the property. The owner has responded by dragging her feet for days and most recently suggested, in turn, we are responsible for drywall damage on the property around the ladder by the bunk beds in the upstairs bedroom. To the contrary, the drywall was already peeling in that area upon our arrival, we simply "shook loose" some of the plaster upon its usage which fell onto the floor -- in other words, normal wear and tear. We have requested over and over to speak to the owner by phone which she has refused to do and continues to choose to send sporadic text message updates instead. We would never recommend this property despite the beautiful view as it has been very frustrating ordeal.
