Beautiful rural retreat; 360 degree views; family-friendly

Our cottage is tastefully decorated in a distinctly English country house style. The far-reaching views to be seen from every window inspired the poetess, Francis Horowitz, who lived in the cottage in the 1980s.

There are some lovely walks from the door, particularly to Garway Hill, said to be the most beautiful place in Herefordshire, offering stunning views over 5 surrounding counties. The cottage is also ideally placed for you to experience canoeing along the Wye River, swimming in the River Monnow, or hiking on Offa’s Dyke or The Three Castles Way. Horse-riding, rock climbing, canoeing, fishing and caving are all within easy reach in the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. The cottage is also close to the Forest of Dean with its cycling paths, picnic sites, Sculpture Trail and family attractions such as Go Ape. A 20-minute drive away is the cathedral city of Hereford, and the market towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, which host a variety of quality restaurants and independent shops. For sightseeing, memorable days out can be had at the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, the Roman Caerleon, and Goodrich, Raglan or Eastnor Castles. Golf is possible at Hereford, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, and racing found at Chepstow and Cheltenham. The famous book town of Hay-on-Wye is reached after a beautiful drive through The Golden Valley.

After a busy day exploring all that Herefordshire has to offer, enjoy an evening dining in the garden, watching the sun set over the glorious countryside. On the cottage’s ground floor, beyond the entrance porch, you will find the kitchen, with its beautiful wooden work surfaces, food preparation island, and the easy-to-use, hard-to-beat electric Everhot cooker. The kitchen is well equipped for making casseroles, cakes, and tray bakes. The open-plan dining room is the perfect space for enjoying meals with family and friends around the large farmhouse-style table. There are two steps up into the living room with its large, comfy sofas, the wood burner and a smart TV. If you want to get away from the television there is another living space in the glorious sunroom, which has folding glass doors leading out onto the south-facing front patio. There is a ground-floor toilet and a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. On the first floor you will find three bedrooms, one with a large spring pocketed super king-size bed, and the other two with twin beds. The bathroom has the best views from the cottage and has a stand alone roll-top bath, shower cubicle, handbasin and toilet. Off-road parking for up to three cars is available in the gravel yard opposite the cottage, just across the road, where there are also some fruit trees.

There is a pub just under a mile away, and a village shop and post office just under 2 miles away. The house is easily accessible from the M50, with Bristol or Cardiff only an hour away.

The cottage can accommodate six adults, plus a cot is available for a child under three years old. Booking is for a minimum of three nights. There is a 25% discount for a 7 night booking for most of the year.

A charming cottage
This cottage feels like a well loved home rather than a holiday rental. We all loved it too! There was plenty of space for the 6 of us- all the rooms are spacious and full of character. A lot of thought had clearly gone into providing pretty much everything we needed. The cottage is on a quiet lane with sheep in the field next door and views of the wonderful countryside. A peaceful place to relax, read some of the many books and take the odd stroll or run round the lanes. There is comprehensive information about the area for a more active stay. We used it as a base to go to the Hay festival, and it was a joy to return to in the evening after a long day of stimulating events. I highly recommend this cottage. Thank you Sandra.

This cottage is like the Tardis, when you enter it is so much bigger on the inside. The views from all windows were beautiful. The kitchen was well equipped, the lounge very spacious and the beds were comfortable.

Perfect, peaceful break
Sandra's property is delightful. Really spacious and comfortable- even better than the photos. Kitchen was especially well equipped. Quiet location with places to walk the dogs locally. Short drive to main roads and plenty to do locally. Not a huge garden but lovely outlook and secure for the dogs, very private and felt like we were getting away from it all. We really didn't want to leave!

Rural Retreat
We have just had a wonderful week at this house. So peaceful and relaxing. A highlight was the views from the front of the house and watching the sheep from the back garden! The house is very well equipped and is somewhere you can unwind and relax. Ross on Wye, Monmouth and Hereford all within 15 to 25 mins drive. We loved exploring the local area and beautiful countryside, we even climbed a Welsh mountain! We would love to visit again one day.

Wonderful Getaway
The cottage was a wonderful base for our holiday in Herefordshire. The cottage is spacious and well equipped. The kitchen has all you need and the location is as we wanted it - quiet and rural. There was plenty of outdoor and indoor space for the three of us. There are plenty of fabulous walks on your doorsteps (including hills, castles and villages). We also went canoeing at Symonds Yat and visited Hereford, Ross on Wye and Hay on Wye. In summary, both a cottage and area that are well worth visiting. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

This is a charming, comfortable and thoughtfully equipped house, with excellent Wi-Fi reception, two lovely places to sit outside and easily the best book selection I've seen in a holiday home. We'd very happily book again.

Idyllic property
Just stayed for a week and can recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in a characterful cottage, with lots of space indoors and out, in an amazing location. We sat outside every evening watching the Red Kites and Buzzards, whilst listening/watching the sheep in the field behind the property…..totally relaxing. The property is ideally situated for numerous small towns and for walking along the River Wye or the Forest of Dean, Garway Hill is only a couple miles away for a walk that provides an amazing view across seven counties. Marina, who looks after the property, is on hand to offer local advice and is such a lovely lady! We will be returning to enjoy this property again in the not too distant future.

A restful cottage in the countryside
Myself and my wife stayed at this lovely character cottage for 4 nights in May 2021. The host representative came to see if everything was ok on our first night, and was at hand for any problems, not that we had any. We had a very peaceful stay, comfy beds, just overall a great time.

This is such a beautiful house and perfect for families. The location is lovely and a short drive from great places to explore like Garway Hill, Ross on Wye and Symmonds Yat. Inside the house is full of character and beautiful little touches. The playroom and selection of children’s books and toys was much appreciated by our little boys!
