The Washhouse
We are conveniently located along Rt 33 about 10 minutes from EMU, JMU. The George Washington National Forest, Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, and numerous caverns provide endless opportunity for outdoor adventures. There is also abundant shopping and dining nearby in Harrisonburg, Dayton, or Bridgewater.
The space The Washhouse is located on our small farmette in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Since it was the original wash house it sets near our Victorian home and has been renovated into a quaint and cozy cottage. Ground level entrance and a first floor bedroom and bathroom make this a handicap friendly space.
Guest access Your space will include the entire Washhouse.
Other things to note You will likely be greeted by our three very friendly English Mastiffs. Please let us know if you have allergies or are uncomfortable with dogs and we will make accommodations for you.

Liked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities, communication
We enjoyed our stay. The house was peaceful, clean, and relaxing. The hosts were friendly and welcoming and graciously left plenty of snacks and drinks. We highly recommend the Washhouse.
My sister and I had a wonderful stay at this property. We were completely impressed by how clean and welcoming this place was. Trisha and Derrick went over and above by adding many wonderful suprises for us.
Highly recommend this property! The hosts offer gracious and generous hospitality. The separate guest house includes a full kitchen, complimentary coffee and tea, and feels like home. The location is close to area attractions with the tranquility of a rural farmette.
Our hosts were friendly and welcoming. The Wash House was clean and comfortable. The snacks and games were an added bonus! Communication was great and check in was easy even though we didn't arrive until around 10pm. Have already recommended to others!
Hubby and I needed a place to stay near mountain hiking trails and area wineries for a long weekend. The Wash House was easy to locate and centrally located for our needs.
Our hosts were so nice and provided numerous little extras throughout the Wash House. Decorations in each room made the home feel cozy. Ample kitchen and bathroom amenities were appreciated. And a supply of games added to the hominess of the Wash House.
We enjoyed our stay.
Our family enjoyed the charming house over thanksgiving break. All the expected amenities and much more! Our kids (4 and 2) loved all the indoor and outdoor toys too. Thank you for your hospitality!
I only spent one night at the Washhouse, but as soon as I entered, I felt right at home. The Washhouse was very clean and tidy, and very comfortable. I did not venture upstairs for the sake of cleanliness, but the downstairs was very nicely set up for Guests. There were lots of games and activities available for people who choose to stay longer, and the English mastiffs outside were so lovely and sweet and ready for pets! I would definitely return if I ever come back this way.
Simply put—-the best hospitality we’ve ever experienced. From the custom scrabble welcome to the snacks and refreshment offered for our enjoyment. Everything that would make you feel at home was thought of. The host was was gracious and accommodating.
Dropping our daughter at JMU, The Washhouse was a great alternative to overpriced H'burg hotels.
The kitchen was the best stocked I've ever seen from other rentals. Fresh flowers and a welcome sign were a great addition.
BEST: 2 BD, 2 Bath, 3 mastiffs!
What was missing: no wifi (ok we used our mobile hotspots when needed). Also was unsure of checkout procedures, if any.
Will definitely stay here again during JMU visits!
The property was clean, smelled amazing, and the beds were comfy, but I do recommend bringing your favorite pillows. (comfy beds is something we’ve struggled to find on these type of rental sites, so this was a big deal). The owners were quick to respond, and kind. Their dogs were well behaved and very sweet. They even had a birthday balloon and cookies for my wife since we were there celebrating her birthday!! We would definitely stay there again if we come back to the area.
I hesitate to leave such a fabulous review for fear that I’ll let the secret out and never have availability again. But alas, let me share how absolutely amazing this place was. It felt like home, albeit on a farmette, in a refurbished 2 bedroom/2 level “wash house”, set on the rolling hills west of downtown Harrisonburg. So so immaculately clean, cozy, comfortable with special touches throughout. The host family, who live in the 1900 Victorian next door were so gracious and welcoming. And the cherry on top… the doggies, the cows, the vistas. We’ll be back… if it’s not already taken!
We enjoyed our stay at this property. The owners were extremely responsive and accommodating both prearrival and once we arrived on property.
The house shares the property with the owners who live on site in an adjacent house with their lovely children. There is ample parking. They do have three large dogs which are very friendly.
Inside the house, it is very cozy and comfortable, with everything we needed. There are two bedrooms, one upstairs and one on the main floor, both with comfortable beds. There is a half bathroom upstairs which was very nice and allowed those upstairs to use the facilities without coming downstairs.
The kitchen was well-equipped, with plenty of staples in the refrigerator and pantry. They also had a free snack area with assorted chips and candy which was very nice.
The property is in a quiet semi-rural area, but within 10 minutes to the downtown area of Harrisonburg. If you are visiting JMU, this place is perfect. It's also not far from Staunton and Massanutten Resort.
We highly recommend this property and would not hesitate staying here in the future if our travels bring us to the area.
Property was exactly what we were looking for and was listed accurately. Clean cozy and everything needed was provided. Would definitely stay here again.
The family that owns this are very polite. Plus, the mastiffs were fun. The house has everything you need, minus TV/Internet (which we knew). A great setting with farm and mountain views.
We (my best friend and I) were so impressed with this property and the family! First, this was the absolutely cleanest property we have ever stayed. Second, the owner's response time was very fast. Third, I felt as much at home here as in my own home and found the online images to be incredibly accurate as to what we found upon entering.
Furnishings were straightforward and included everything we may have needed. It is near to other homes along the same road yet the property size/dimensions are such that you feel you are more remote than you are. They have 2 lovely mastiffs who enjoy getting attention but were never a bother. The property owner lives on site but in a separate building, so near enough in case a problem arises but spearate enough to each enjoy some privacy.
They provided a variety of snacks, had basics stocked such as coffee, cream and sugar, cooking oil, a good variety of cookware (I can attest the stovetop range works well), and included a cute personalized greeting.
And it bears repeating: this was the cleanest property I have ever stayed. Absolutely delightful listing and I look forward to returning with my husband and son in future! Thank you so much, Trisha, for blessing us with your impeccable hospitality!
