Wish we could live here
A little slice of heaven. We come back to the Harpers Ferry area about every second year. This year we discovered 2 new dog beaches, Quiet Waters and Downs Beach both in Maryland. Our dog had a ball! We may be back next year already because there are new places we want to discover. The hosts of the house are great and also River Riders is always a call away. The fuzzy blankets that were there was a plus on cold nights and mornings. We also saw a lot of deer this year and even a baby with spots! We think our dog thinks they are big doggies. Beautiful area, we can't wait to return. Thankyou for another relaxful vacation.

40th Wedding anniversary
Overall, nice place to stay. Just a few downfalls. The coffee pot needs to go in the trash. First off, the basket does not fit into the machine. It is from a different set up, therefore we did not get our morning coffee as it would not brew and drip into the glass pot. Second no hot water upstairs, had to take showers downstairs if we wanted hot water. Finally, I think is the worst problem is that there were numerous big bugs in the upstairs bathroom and both guest rooms that we used. They were on the ceiling, night stand, walls and my husband had one climb across his glasses. We had kept all windows/doors shut, so unclear where they came from. Overall our stay was good, just need to fix those couple items.

Nice historic house, not a ton extra comforts.
The house was really nice, super secluded but still very close to town. Modern comforts like A/C units in each room, BIG tv, hot tub. However, this house didn't have as many as the comfort items that are typical with rental properties. Only 4 towels and washcloths split between the two bathrooms. No extra sheets anywhere, no vacuum, no extras like aluminium foil in the kitchen, or dishcloths. They did have a few extra blankets which were nice. But very bare bones in terms of communal extra stuff. We had two minor mechanical issues, which the host was very helpful and prompt. They had maintenance guys out quickly and got us fixed up. We really enjoyed our stay here. It's wide open fields around the house except for one neighbor right next door. The fire pit wasn't really usable because the grass was cut, but went right up to it. It was very dry and we were afraid we'd set the whole field on fire. Also, no firewood or outdoor chairs at the fire pit, just log stumps. Gas grill was adequate. Plenty of hot tub towels, which we used several of as extras in the bathrooms. The shower heads were pretty weak. Kitchen was clean. There was lots of natural light throughout the house, which was nice, except for little kids trying to nap... And some blinds were broken and curtains didn't really block out any light. Plenty of dishes, but the dishwasher didn't really seem to get them all that clean. We would totally stay here again. Pros outweighed the cons by far.

Frustrating
We travel a lot so I always vet the property, this property had eight beds but not even enough hot water for one shower & although it had a tub it wasn’t one I would put my children in. The dishwasher was full when we got there & the dishes that were in the pantry were dirty. Out of nowhere a strange man walked through the privacy fence, I had myself and two young children in the hot tub, scared me. It was the lawn service, mowed the property while we right were there with no notice- had to rush out of the hot tub into the yard to pick up the kids toys- woke up my infant. Dusty and full of cob webs. Their communication is good though, I’ll give them that, they got back to me really quick with an ‘I’m sorry for the inconvenience.’ We were there for one full day for an event for an event in the evening and we went with half ass showers and a crabby baby.

Good location, easy to get to. Place was very clean and there was a lot of room for a hot tub is a nice addition. The only thing to watch out for is your head because the attic room has a slightly low ceiling getting up to it.

Another Great Stay
This was our 3rd time at one of Laura's properties, second at this house. We had another great stay for our annual Girl's weekend. The house is lovely, we love the large table on the porch for games and meals. The kitchen has everything you need to make dinner. We have already booked for next year! Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

A relaxful getaway
This house is exceptional. This is our second time staying here and we wish we could live here. We think our dog loves it more than we do. The fenced in yard, hot tub, and fire pit is always a plus. Always nice to see the deer coming around in the morning and at nighttime. River Rivers is always very attentive to anything that we need. Can't wait to come again.

Great place to stay
The property was perfect for us. A quiet, private country setting that was close to everything & plenty of nearby things to do. The manager and staff up at River Riders were very welcoming, and we felt right at home. We came to the area to attend a wedding in Leesburg, VA, and wanted to take a few more days and make a vacation out of it. Basing ourselves out of this property was a great choice.

Perfect Winter Weekend Getaway
My husband had last minute time off, so we decided to take a weekend getaway with the kids in Harpers Ferry. My twin toddlers had a lot of fun playing in the snow and exploring the big, old house. My teenage daughter lived in the hot tub! Harpers Ferry is such a cute town with so much rich history, and this property is so close to all of it. If you are reading this and are undecided, you should definitely stay here and check it out! In addition to the NPS displays, definitely check out the local candy shop. It's like a museum where you can eat the displays! Also, the BBQ place in the red train car serves good food in huge portions, so eat there if you are hungry! Thank you for a great stay! We will be back in the summer!

Harper’s Ferry house
We had 6 adults and 5 children ..under the age of 9. Beware you will be charged $25.00 a night extra for a party larger than 8. The house will sleep 4 adults, in 2 king beds, the other 6 beds are twins so not sure why the extra charge. The house is old and dated. Small kitchen and small living room with large tv that has limited channels. The back porch with one large picnic table was the only place we could all be together inside. The kids liked the yard and we enjoyed the fire pit area every night. The hot tub porch seats 4 . at a small table, and didn’t get over 90 degrees. The dish washer , light fixtures and carpeted steps were dirty. The beds were clean and comfortable. The Adventure Park was a hit with everyone and the staff there was very helpful. We also spent a day in Harper Ferry/hiking. Loved the area and will return but will look for a more accommodating house for a group our size.

Four nights in river land
Our group of 10 spent four very accommodating nights at the 1862 house. The house was a great fit, very comfortable. We We enjoyed campfires every night under the stars out at the fire circle. Everyone brought their folding chairs. We cooked yummy feasts every evening. The gas grill was a great feature for cooking steak & sausage one night, veggie shishkabobs another. We dined most nights at the outdoor patio picnic table, with the kids seated at the screened porch table. The two grandmas (twins) loved the quiet of the spacious attic room. The four kids enjoyed the backyard & side field for playing. The hot tub was used some, but as it was 90 degree weather, swimming in the pool at the Clarion up the road was a great perk, especially for the under 5 kids. The adults & bigger kids enjoyed the flat water inner tubing nearby. I'd love to return in cooler weather for trail hiking, & to visit civil war sites. Some of us did enjoy a visit to a nearby winery, & to downtown Harper's Ferry.
