About this property

Entire place

Family-friendly, thoughtfully modernized, historic home in Harpers Ferry.

The Spy House is rich with history and has been lovingly updated by Its owner. It was built in the 1880s in the Federal style and has been adapted for modern living with an open-concept living room and kitchen.

Any cook will feel at home in the well-appointed eat-in kitchen. You can enjoy a relaxing meal around the large handmade farm table. You will find a heavy-duty gas stove, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops.

The home features three bathrooms. The primary bathroom features a vintage clawfoot tub, the upstairs guest bathroom a shower, and the first-floor bathroom features a bespoke shower and vanity. Each of the three bedrooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed.

The house is situated on Camp Hill, which is less than a ten-minute walk to downtown historic Harpers Ferry and the train station. There is no downside to being so close to the action as even on the busiest of days in town, it remains quiet at the Spy House.

One of the house's former residents was suspected of being a spy for Germany, investigated and arrested by the FBI in 1945, and soon after pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit espionage; hence the name, the Spy House.

To complete your booking you must sign our Rental Agreement (which will be sent to you electronically) and provide a copy of your photo ID (e.g., valid driver’s license or passport). With those two items taken care of, you will be sent an email containing instructions for checking in the week of your stay.

The property was just as it was pictured online. We appreciated how clean and orderly it was. Plenty of space and just a short walk into town and to hiking trails.

Spy House in Harpers Ferry
We enjoyed our time in Harpers Ferry very much. We also enjoyed the Spy House. The location was very convenient. The house was roomy, clean, and very comfortable, and had everything we needed. We were especially impressed that the temperature in the house was perfect and stable through our entire stay.

We had a wonderful stay
Jay is a great host. The instruction was very clear. He checked on us if everything was ok. He was extremely responsive. The house was very clean. You can tell the owner made an effort in upgrading and taking care of the details. The location is great close to everything. We especially liked the Kelly farm kitchen which was recommended by Jay. Harper’s Ferry is a hidden gem full of history and beauty. If you don’t want to stay at Quality Inn or any chain hotel 20, 30 minutes away then Jay’s house is the best choice as it’s in the center of the town. We had a wonderful time.

Loved this place!
Wonderful stay. Great location (walkable down into town), three nice and comparable bedrooms so no one had to argue over who got which one (ha ha!), great bathrooms, great kitchen, great communication with host (although we had no issues and didn't need anything). We would absolutely stay here again. Appreciated the board games, too! Thank you!

Comfy home
We enjoyed the lovely location and pleasant ambience of this home. We were four adults all from the same family who enjoy visiting historic sites. The plusses were the quiet street, spacious rooms, nicely equipped kitchen and comfortable seating. Although the master bath was roomy and airy with a lovely clawfoot tub, there was no door. However, this was inside the master bedroom, so it might not matter to most people. The town itself is picturesque with some steep streets and nicely restored buildings. Many of these sold ice cream or were restaurants, but during the week we noticed most were closed by dinner time. This was surprising, but we did find a restaurant outside of town a bit. We used it twice for dinner during our time here. Lunch was not a problem. Jay responded pretty quick and answered any question we had. In our rush to depart on time I left a very full tote bag loaded with all my cosmetics, hair products, medications and other necessities hanging in the bathroom. He has promised to get this to me when he returns from traveling for business. (We will be happy to pay for the expense in sending it back to us.) Needless to say, my mistake dampened our visit. We live in Texas. I think anyone spending time here would enjoy their stay.

This is a cozy and lovely home with plenty of space. The kitchen is really nice and well stocked, the sitting areas are comfortable and the front porch is a great place to sit and enjoy the neighborhood. The bedrooms are all large and very comfortable. The location can't be beat. It's very convenient walking distance to everything in the town of Harper's Ferry as well as the Appalachian Trail etc.... We would love to come back!

Lovely Weekend!
What a find! Clean, comfortable and convenient. The house has charm, modern amenities, big flat backyard, wifi, and easy parking. We played the board games that were there, and I enjoyed the travel guides and books. It's great to be able to walk around (hilly, but that makes for great scenery) - we especially enjoyed Bolivar Bakery, Snallygasters restaurant, and whitewater rafting (Harpers Ferry Adventure Center). We'd definitely stay here again.

Three of us enjoyed our stay at the Spy House. Walking distance to town, but also Storer College, where we caught a concert on the lawn one afternoon. The house had everything we needed and it was quiet and well-equipped. Jay was responsive and checked in on us. Beds were comfortable and thermostat was easy to use. Plus, we all got some writing done! Would stay here again!

Fantastic family getaway
We absolutely loved our stay at the Spy House! It’s an absolutely perfect location in Harper’s Ferry to see and do everything. The house itself was so comfortable and perfect for a relaxing get away. The home reminded us of our former historic home and I was so impressed by the lovely decorative touches, and historic nature of the home with all of its charm was maintained with the perfect updates to make it comfortable for modern tastes. We had such an amazing experience and we will definitely be back and be telling our friends to stay at the Spy House for their next getaway!
