Private Sunset Chalet on 40 Beautiful Acres

Our sunset chalet offers a quiet setting on 40 acres of woods and farm fields. Sit on the deck while enjoying panoramic views over Lake Michigan including Beaver Island continuing north towards Wilderness State Park, four lighthouses and the sanddunes in the Upper Penninsula. Wildlife such as deer, wild turkeys, cranes, eagles and many other birds are abundant in the area. The dark sky is perfect for star gazing and not far from the "Dark Sky Park" near Mackinaw.
The chalet has a complete kitchen, full bath and a spacious living room on the main floor. The upstairs has two bedrooms each with a queen bed, a sitting room with twin trundle beds, a full bathroom and walk out deck.
Cross Village has a local beach with swimming and a small boat launch. More public beaches are located to the north at Sturgeon Bay with miles of beach and hiking trails which include the North Country Trail. Cross Village is located at the north end of the Tunnel of Trees on M-119. There are three nice restaurants near the village, Legs Inn, Petoskey Brewing and the Crow's Nest. Cross Village is only 20 minutes away from Harbor Springs and Mackinaw City. A day trip to Mackinac Island is a favorite for visitors. Boyne Highlands, Maple Ridge and Hidden River are available for golf.
This is a great place for hiking , biking, swimming or just relaxing and curling up to read a book.

Beautiful Hideaway
This is the 2nd time we stayed here. The house is very clean and Margaret is just wonderful. What we like about it is the seclusion. So quiet and peaceful. Deer in the yard every morning and evening.Close enough drive to all attractions. Hope to stay again. Highly recommend.

Beautiful surroundings and great house.
Coming from Chicago, I was searching for peace, quiet, and beauty, and found it all at the Sunset Chalet. Surrounded by 60 acres of corn and forest with a view of the lake, I heard virtually zero noise and was treated with great sunsets and an even better night sky. The home is beautiful and had everything I needed. Owner was great and very responsive. I hope to visit again soon.

Glorious tranquil setting
This lovely A- frame has all the comforts of home and a fantastic wrap- around deck for viewing sunsets over Lake Michigan and watching wildlife in the open acreage around the cabin. It's beautiful and quiet...the perfect place for doing absolutely nothing. Ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, water sports, and more. Mackinac Island was a great outing. Then back to peace and quiet. Idyllic.

Family Fun - Private Retreat
We spent our first family vacation in Michigan at this property. The owners are very helpful and the house was very clean and well-kept. The 60 acres of land was a favorite with the kids. They would look forward to coming "home" and hiking around the property after our busy days of sightseeing. They especially liked the pond with the frogs. The kitchen is well-stocked and the house had everything a family of six could need. Unlike other vacation homes we have rented that had a locked room or closet that was off-limits to renters, this home was completely available to the renters and helped make everything feel more inviting. We went for a run to the lake and back and that was about 3 miles. The view of the lake from the house was very nice. If we ever plan another Michigan vacation we would stay here again!

Our Home Away from Home
This was an exceptionally wonderful experience for my husband and myself, along with my daughter and her family. Our two granddaughters loved the pond and the deck. We loved watching the Lake Michigan sunsets and the wildlife. With so much acreage, the property is quiet and relaxed, yet so close to Lake Michigan and Petoskey and Harbor Springs to the south and Mackinaw City and beyond to the north. We took full advantage of the proximity, swimming on a beautiful Lake Michigan beach recommended to us by Margaret, the chalet's wonderful owner, and took the easy drive to catch the ferry to Mackinac Island and to see the Soo Locks and museum. The house is so pleasant and easy to be in. Margaret and Stan have thought of everything, and it is every bit as beautiful (and more) as you see in the photos they have posted. Margaret met us the first night and oriented us to the house and the area and then we were on our own to spend the delightful and delicious week at the house together as a family, making memories. I would Most definitely recommend this rental to anyone. Beautiful house, beautiful area and wonderful, easy to work with owners. Thank you so much, Margaret and Stan!

Deceptive Listing
Overall the property is quite nice, but not as described. When we rented, the property was not described as an active farm. All of those photos of lush, green rolling hills are currently barren, tilled, corn fields. Many acres of forest were recently clear cut and fenced off. There are now a couple herds of cows on the property. The owners claim the rental has 60 acres, but that's split between them and their child whom lives on the property. (This also wasn't listed.) This property also has weird rules about trash disposal, they want you to compost the food scraps, carry some materials to the local fire department, leave other things on site etc. It was literally a 10 step process. They also don't allow any fires. This is hidden on the post... you have to go to "house rules" and click "show more". I guess that one's on me, but what kind of cabin doesn't support camp fires? The building itself was in alright condition. You can see a sliver of the lake from the house and the property was relatively quiet.

Outstanding Experience
We had an outstanding experience staying at this place. We loved the large windows, French doors, the views of the property and Lake Michigan. We saw several deer including two bucks rutting. The kitchen was spacious and the island convenient. There was pots and pans of all sizes available, more than one could need. So close to Leggs Inn. We were lucky enough to watch northern lights, two nights in a row, from the upstairs balcony. The quiet outside and inside the cottage was so comforting, nurturing and rejuvenating. Only Nature sounds. We saw turkeys, sandhill cranes, northern flickers and even a bald eagle. We are hoping to visit this lovely property again, soon and enjoy the beauty, peace and quiet once again. Thank you Margaret.

Peace and Quiet
My mom and I stayed for a week in August. The home is comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable. The views were wonderful and at night the stars were so big. It was our first experience with this heating and cooling system and it worked perfectly. If we come back to the area we will see if this property is available!

Great location!
The house was clean and perfect for our family vacation. Close to Mackinac Island, Legs Inn, and Harbor Springs, yet we still had the privacy and remoteness we wanted. The host met us there to show us around and gave us tips on the best beaches.

Perfect getaway!
We had a wonderful week at the chalet. It had everything we needed as far as necessities, and then some, while maintaining a laidback cabin interior. Everything was comfortable and clean! The home has so many wonderful views of the surrounding fields and woods. It was easy to just enjoy the sounds of birds and frogs from the wraparound porch or inside with the doors open. Margaret responded to any question quickly and let us know of fun nearby outings. We spent many late afternoons at Lake Michigan on Sturgeon Bay which is part of a State Park and undeveloped. This was our favorite place to be. Perfect for kayaking, swimming, rock collecting and just being in the sand with the woods surrounding the beach. The family all agreed that this was a place to come back to. Thank you, Margaret and Stan, for sharing this wonderful, peaceful place with us!

60 spectacular acres of seclusion and star gazing
Although we had a rainy week (5 of 7 days), we made the most of the dry time we had exploring the area north and south of Cross Village. Wilderness State park is a must. The property the chalet sits on is picturesque and QUIET. You could hear the hummingbirds and the bees in the flowers of the landscaping. The place was immaculate. The star gazing was superb. Some of the best I've ever experienced. You could easily see the sweeping arms of the milky way across the sky on clear nights. We were there during the new moon and the perseid meteor showers. An experience of a lifetime. Will definitely do this again.
