In this charming region, each place tells a story. Stroll along Guánica's Malecón and admire its unique bay, one of the safest on the island, being the most important in the 19th century and one of the few in the world with a narrow entrance. On August 12, 1508, Juan Ponce de León landed in Guánica Bay, founding the first settlement, called Guaynía, which would be the island's capital until its destruction by the indigenous people in 1511. On July 25, 1898, US troops under General Nelson Miles disembarked from the USS Gloucester on Guánica's shores during the Spanish-American War in Puerto Rico, a campaign that would give possession of the island to the United States.
Visit Sunflower Farm, an oasis of color and joy, or explore and appreciate the incredible view of Guánica from Caprón Fort, where the Spaniards watched for pirates and enemies. In 1898, the US army reconstructed it for continued use.
The culinary offering is equally impressive, from authentic flavors in La Parguera to local restaurants within 1-15 minutes offering the essence of Puerto Rican cuisine. Every bite is a culinary adventure.
