Whether you are looking for a family getaway, a fishing and snorkeling excursion, a kiteboarding adventure, or just days spent walking the deserted beaches, this is the perfect destination for you.
Our beautiful townhouse is located in the idyllic Great Harbour Cay Marina. It has a private dock that can accommodate your own boat or a rental that we can help arrange for you. The dock can accommodate up to a 60ft boat, including sailboats, with dockside power and water available for additional fee.
The Townhouse has great views of the marina from the front deck, and perfect sunset cocktail vistas from the rear deck. You can walk about a mile to sandy beaches on the other side of the island, call a taxi for a ride, or we can arrange for a rental car or golf cart.
Food shopping and restaurants are within a 5 minute drive from the Townhouse.
The Townhouse has two bedrooms upstairs, one with a king bed and one with two single beds. Each bedroom has its own recently renovated bathroom, as well as its own deck outside the floor to ceiling glass doors.
On the first floor is a huge newly renovated kitchen including a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave, and even a cappuccino maker.
There is a third bathroom, as well as full size washer and dryer, and a comfortable modern living room with a brand new sofa bed and furnishings.
There is a large flat screen TV with DirectTV, a multimedia stereo system including AppleTV, a phone for free local calls, and free wifi.
The huge overwater deck outside the living room is appointed with comfortable new furniture and the perfect spot for a relaxing breakfast or spending the afternoon reading a book. The front deck has amazing views of the sunsets, which cannot be beat!
One of the main reasons we, as well as our guests, love this place so much is that it is not at all touristy and is truly a tropical paradise destination. Escape the hotels, traffic, and noise of other more crowded islands. This makes it a little more complicated to get to our island home, but is certainly worth the effort. Some of the most commonly asked questions by renters are:
1. How do I get to your island?
There is an airport on Great Harbour Cay, and is usually accessed either from Nassau or Florida.
If you fly into Nassau (NAS) there are two regularly scheduled flights each day on Le Air at 7:50am and 4:30pm from Nassau to Great Harbour Cay, returning from Great Harbour to Nassau at 8:20am and 5:00pm, and the flight is about 17 minutes. The flights are reliable and cost $140- $160 per person round trip.
Alternatively Le Air offers charters on their smaller plane that carries up to 5 passengers, and they charge $510 each way for up to 5 people. The advantage of their charter is that you can pick the times yourself.
The other option is to fly from Opa Locka Airport, which is about half way between Miami Airport and Ft. Lauderdale Airport to get a direct charter flight to Great Harbour. We have flown for over 15 years with Markus of Air Charter Miami and they are very safe and reliable. The flight is 45-50 min and carries up to 8 passengers.
If there are just 2-4 people, it may be more economical for you to fly through Ft. Lauderdale with Tropic Ocean Airways on their regularly scheduled flights on Fridays and Sundays, which cost about $614 per person round trip including taxes and fees:
Departure in FLL at 1:00 PM, arriving in Great Harbour at 1:50 PM
Departure from Great Harbour at 2:30 PM, arriving in FLL at 3:20 PM
We are happy to help coordinate flights for you.
2. Is there shopping on Great Harbour Cay?
There are two grocery stores and a couple of liquor stores on the island. There are plenty of non perishables for sale on the island like drinks, bread, pasta, cereal, as well as milk, butter, etc. However we recommend that our renters purchase their fresh fruits and veggies as well as steak, chicken, and cold cuts either in Nassau or Florida (depending on where you fly from) and bring them with you on the plane. If you have at least a 3 hour layover in Nassau, we know a driver who can pick you up at the airport, take you grocery shopping, and then bring you back to the airport in time for your onward flight to Great Harbour.
3. Are there restaurants on the island?
There are several good restaurants on the island, and some notable ones are-
Beach Club: about a 5 minute drive from our property. They serve breakfast and lunch everyday and then sometimes on Fri and Sat they serve dinner too. Best cheeseburgers ever.
Coolie Mae's: Cute restaurant in town on a hill with great sunset views. Really good fish and conch.
Carrie Earl: A British couple runs the restaurant here and it is a really good mix of European and Bahamian food, with a great bar.
There is also often fun BBQs at the Marina - you can check with them during your stay for the latest schedule.
There are several other small restaurants as well.
4. Do you have a coffee maker?
Yes! We have a Keurig single cup coffee maker. We have dozens of pods there for you that come in about 6-8 different flavors. We also have a traditional coffee maker if you want to bring your own ground beans.
5. Do we need a car?
You will find a car convenient if you do decide to venture away from the Townhouse. Most things are within 2-3 miles. We can arrange a rental of a car or golf cart for you.
6. How do I get to your property?
Our property manager Wally, who is somewhat of a celebrity on the island and is immediately loved by our guests, will pick you up at the airport and bring you to our property (about a 5 minute drive). He will also get you oriented as to where the shops and restaurants are located, and provide any local knowledge you desire. He also makes an amazing coconut milk drink!
Please note that we have three security cameras installed on the outside of the property- one facing each exterior door, as well as one facing the dock.
