Learn more about Gran Sabana

Explore attractions like Parque Nacional Canaima and Angel Falls as you discover things to see and do in Gran Sabana.

World's tallest waterfall at 979 meters. Angel Falls, Venezuela was on my bucket list and luck had it that I would be in the country for business a few years ago. On a weekend off, I made my way to Canaima park (only way to get there is by air) and then took a 3 hour boat ride up the Churun River in a motorized dugout boat to the trail up to the falls. The views along the way were pretty cool and like a completely different world. Well worth the trip on its own. At our destination we were dropped off and hiked up through the jungle on a well used trail for a few kilometers before arriving at the pools near the base of the falls. Looking up you can appreciate the drop. The water turned to mist on way down and then pooled over several other small falls on their way down to the river. The pools were the perfect place to have a swim and relax while taking in the views of the tepui and surrounding landscape. The locals said it was good luck to drink the water from the falls. It was nice and cool and tasted as pure as any bottled water. I guess the luck was with me as it did not rain until we were almost back at the camp in Canaima. Then the skies opened up and it poured for hours. I would love to visit again and hopefully the political situation in Venezuela becomes more stable so that others may be able to enjoy this amazing place.
