Snowshoe just out your doorstep in Government Camp or ski at 3 nearby resorts

Gear up for a breezy getaway to Mt. Hood! Hovering just above the snowline, Government Camp is an easy 1.5-hour winter drive from Portland.

You will find the Snowball House situated 1 block from downtown, on top of the best sledding hill in town (per local residents)! This is a great opportunity to meet neighbors and potential ski buddies. The Crosstown Trail is 500ft from the house, and you will find an excellent snowshoeing trail that winds behind Government Camp Village. And for the adventurous, you could even snowshoe up to Timberline Lodge and catch your breath enjoying one of their amazing hot chocolates.

Speaking of skiing, you will be pressed to find a better home base than the Snowball House. Timberline Summit Ski Resort is a 1.5-block walk to the end of the street where you can ski to the bottom of the lift. Timberline Lodge is a short drive away, with exceptional skiing and snowboarding and the historical lodge for apres ski activities. Nothing beats heading back to the house after a day of skiing, having a nice hot dinner, and then heading across the highway (a 5-minute drive) for some of the best night skiing on Mt. Hood at Ski Bowl. Check out Ski Bowl’s historic warming hut—a perfect break during an evening on the slopes. And not to miss, Mt Hood Meadows ski resort is about a 20-minute drive with some of the best runs on Mt. Hood.

The house has 3 bedrooms with queen beds and a loft upstairs with a king-sized bed. There are 2 bathrooms, one on the main floor and one on the loft floor. The kitchen is fully supplied with cookware, dishes, and a dishwasher. The living room has a large couch, TV, and a wood-burning stone fireplace. The downstairs is a large open room with a TV, gaming console, foosball, and ping pong table. Free wifi and Amazon Fire Stick.

The house is equipped with a washer, dryer, sheets, towels, and wood supplied for the fireplace.

Government Camp has a very nice grocery store and a few restaurants. There is private parking in front of the house for 2 cars.

One block from downtown, great sledding at your doorstep, and an easy walk to Timberline Summit, a short drive to Timberline Lodge (10 mins), Mt. Hood Ski Bowl (2 mins), and Mt. Hood Meadows (15 mins).

Great for Instagram, that’s about it.
This was one of my worst experiences in Government Camp. I was notified the day of check-in that the fireplace wasn’t usable, but not to worry because the cabin had central heat. That is a false statement. The heat only covers the bedrooms and basement, leaving the kitchen, living room and loft completely without heat. We turned the oven on to heat the place. We were also told to “bring our own shovel” to get to the front door. Communication with the host was spotty at best. And I asked for a partial refund and received no communication back. The bathroom had a major leak in the tub. Not a trip, but a constant flow that seemed to have been neglected for some time. A premium price for a very poorly maintained property. We didn’t see any rats (thank goodness) like other people posted, but I certainly would not stay here again.

A nice place, but no hot tub
The other reviews I saw gave this place a one star, this place was actually really nice and I don't really know why they thought it deserved such a low review. I only had to drop my review of it from 5 star because when I purchased my reservation it had 'Hot Tub' listed in the listing, which I am to gather from my conversation with the owner was a mistake. In any case, TL;DR, this place is very nice but does not have a hot tub but was listed with one when I made my reservation.

Scam Company
The chimney caught the roof on fire forcing us to evacuate. The owner refuses to refund me. Additionally, there is a rat infestation in the basement. Do not stay here, you will be scammed.

Great Location but property was dirty
This was a Christmas getaway for our family. Upon entry we took off our shoes so as not to track in dirt. We could feel dirt under foot as we walked throughout the property. There were dust bunnies in every room. Large spider webs in every room as well as attached to the lighting. There was dirt particles in the tub. There were veggie remains in the crisper drawers of the refrigerator. The large sofa in the main room was dirty. Many seams open on cushions leaking stuffing. The banister along the stairs going to the loft bed room is coming away from the wall. VERY DANGEROUS!!! A fall waiting to happen. The shower head in the loft bathroom is leaking and is likely leaking water behind the wall. Several lights were missing light bulbs. We took one from a light to use on the kitchen hood light to better light when cooking. Many small things that add up to a property that has not been attended to. And therefore not comfortable to stay in. There were 5 adults in our party but only 4 bath towels. We emailed the host to try to address some of these issues but never heard from her. I wish I could give this property a good review but in good conscience cannot. It has great potential. Need TLC.
