Renovated Traditional Stone House With Private Salt Water Pool

This property has the charm of a traditional french stone building but it has been recently renovated to provide high standard of accommodation.

Access to the property is through a tree lined lane which opens up to a valley where you see the property. It sits in a peaceful spot with no immediate neighbours with stunning views yet it is within walking distance (1.5 km) to the local town of Gourdon.

Gourdon is on the border of the Lot and the Dordogne so it is well situated within an outstanding area of natural beauty with many beautiful villages, chateaus and caves to visit plus close to the Dordogne River where you can hire a canoe or take a picnic.

The property is all on one level with 2 double bedrooms and a room with twin beds, each bedroom has its own fully equipped ensuite shower room.

The main living area has an open plan fully fitted kitchen, dinning area and lounge. From this area there are two sets of double doors that lead out to a large private terrace area with a stunning 10m x 5m salt water pool.

For alfresco dinning there is a traditional built large covered terrace with a table and seating for 8 people. This is perfect for lunch or a glass of wine or just to relax in the shade, The terrace is surrounded by a lawn and mature trees with views of the surrounding countryside and the only sounds to disturb you is the birds chirping or a local tractor.

Due to the proximity of the pool, this property may not be suitable to families with young children.

Wow! What a beautiful gite this is. It far exceeded our expectations. The owners have thought about everything, there is nothing we would change. The location was stunning with the only neighbours being the cows and calves in the next field. It is perfectly located to visit Domme, Sarlat, La Roque Gageac and canoeing. We ate out a couple of evenings but the best nights were lighting the bbq around the pool and enjoying the beautiful gite. Thank you Mike for sharing your stunning gite with us. We can’t wait to return again one day.

This was an excellent gite in fabulous location, very private but quite close to the pleasant town of Gourdon. Probably the best holiday gite in which we have ever stayed. We will return.

Just Superb!
The Gite really is a wonderful place to stay. Set in beautiful surroundings with an amazing pool it was the most wonderful location to relax and unwind. The Gite was comfortable and well equipped for anything you need and was absolutely spotless. Gourdon itself was a lovely town to explore and it has many restaurants worth a visit, supermarkets etc. Communicating with Mike was always easy and he was very prompt to respond to communications. We would highly recommend this Gite and really did not want to leave to go home and will certainly look to visit again.

Immaculately presented property, very clean and very well equipped. Very peaceful location, but within walking distance of the town. If we go back to this area, then we would definitely rebook this delightful property.

Fantastic gîte in a stunning location
This is a beautiful property nestled in a very private, relaxing part of le Lot. The space is comfortable, modern, and calm. It is very well stocked with all you need to cook and relax. Grocery shops are very close by as are many of the most popular sites in the Lot and the Dordogne. Communication with Mike was very easy. Can't recommend this place enough!

Beautiful gite
We have enjoyed a very relaxing stay and loved the seclusion and wildlife. Whilst Gourdon is a quiet town we enjoyed our visits to the caves there and the caves in Padirac. Our trip to Rocomadour was excellent. The gite has everything you need and we loved our evening walks. Would highly recommend this gite.

Beautiful Gite in a stunning setting. Spotlessly clean with everything you could want for your stay.
As soon as we turned off down the single track we knew we had made a great choice. The Gite was stunning and surrounded by open fields and woods. A very peaceful place for us to unwind. The Gite was spotlessly clean with everything we could possibly need for our stay. The wine you left was very much appreciated too. We took a walk to Gourdon which took us about 25 min [ but we are in our 60's so perhaps faster for the younger guests] . Visited Sarlat a beautiful medieval town on the Saturday, wonderful Market with lots of lovely places to eat. Also spent a day at Rocamadour which is a must, took our breath away. Hopefully will return again soon. Had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.

Fontaine de Calou ticks all the boxes
This lovingly restored gite was a perfect base for a relaxing holiday. Immediately on arrival we knew we had chosen well and most noticeable was the peace and quiet of the beautiful setting. Not too far from Gourdon to walk home after a meal out at night but far enough to feel secluded and private. The gite was comfortable and had everything we needed with many extras that were much appreciated. The charcoal BBQ worked well complimenting our ‘National Dish’ guru’s offerings. Lovely pool and grounds leading to woods nearby where we went for a great walk through to Payrignac where there is a park, lake and cafe that offer a great plat de jour. The owner was very quick and helpful in responding to a couple of our queries, which was much appreciated. We had a such a great holiday and wished we could have stayed longer, a week was nowhere near long enough. This is definitely one to return too. The only regret is the cows were nowhere to be seen!

Perfect house for family of 4, well equipped with great pool and garden.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Fontaine de Calou. The kids spent many hours in the pool and we enjoyed watching the sunset with a glass of wine and also watching the cows in the adjoining field! A very well equipped and well appointed villa.

Beautiful villa in fantastic location - would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful holiday staying in this great villa - very well equipped with everything needed to self cater. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable and the towels provided were great quality. The pool was a hit - a pretty constant 22 degrees which was just right in the heat. The owner was there on our arrival and was staying in his flat for the first few days of our holiday - he made us very welcome without intruding on our holiday. The only area for improvement that we can think of would be to have some more comfortable outside seating - the rocking chair is great though! Overall we would highly recommend this villa - there is so much to see and do in the area and it’s a great place to return to at the end of a busy day out!

Perfect Rural Retreat July/Aug 2018
What a fantastic place! We loved being there and would have loved to stay for longer. The setting is so peaceful with only cows for neighbours. The children loved exploring the sizeable plot looking for lizards and naming the cows. We even saw two young deer playing in the morning sunshine. It was very hot whilst we were there reaching 38 degrees on several days so the pool and shaded areas were very welcome. We all enjoyed cooling off in the saltwater pool which was very clean and beautifully blue. The property was very clean and well supplied, the kitchen well equipped and the bathrooms clean and showers good. Excellent quality bedding and towels were provided. Fans were in each of the bedrooms but because of the high temperatures they just blew the hot air about. We followed the owners suggestions about keeping the place cool and for the first couple of days it worked fine but then it hit 35 - 38 degrees. It made for a few sticky nights. This was not enough to stop me wanting to go back though. Lots to see and do in the area for kids and adults alike. With two children we decided that Gourdon was not in fact walkable as it was uphill all the way including the steep driveway. I'm sure in cooler temps it would be easier. However there is plenty of parking so we didn't miss out. The outside space was fantastic and we ate and sat out till late most nights without me being bitten which is unheard of. We didn't use the lounge area or TV at all but the music system supplied was well used, a brilliant addition. We had a truly lovely time here and from the moment we arrived it felt like home. It was hard to leave but I'm sure we will be back if you'll have us! The Oxlees

the setting of this property is beautiful, peaceful, restful, just wonderful. The sound of the wildlife and the cows as a background is so relaxing, The gite itself is first class and the pool and outside dining area are excellent .The interesting town of Gourdon is just 2/3 miutes in the car or a 15 minute walk away. All in all we cannot fault this marvellous property. Robin, Guernsey

Countryside Gite in a beautiful valley
The gite is in a wonderful setting and fully met our expectations. The fittings were all of a high quality and we could not fault it in any way. The swimming pool was spectacular as were the views. It was especially enjoyable to wake up to the sound of birds and the tinkling of the cow bell. The gite, although close to Gourdon, is rural and it is recommended that anyone staying there has the use of a car. The owner was on site for a few days and was most helpful. We would not hesitate recommending it and hopefully we will revisit in the future. Ian and Angela Hare June 2018

Lovely peaceful location. Suited our needs very well, good layout, comfortably furnished. Nice pool
Couple of small issues on arrival the owner dealt with them promptly and was very helpful. House is located on the side of a bowl in the hills outside Gourdon and was surrounded by trees and fields with a few houses in the distance. It wasn't overlooked and felt very private. House was well furnished and equipped and felt very comfortable. Pool was very nice and close to the house. Good outside seating. There is a small herd of elegant cows, Parthenaise I think, in the field next door and might seem strange to say but they add to the charm of the place. One or two small things stopped me giving a 5 star but overall we had a really enjoyable couple of weeks and it always felt good coming back to the house after our day trips.
