Good Value With Excellent Front Office Staff
Stayed here for one night in room 208.
The room had a double bed, with a thick mattress which was very soft by Indian standards. There was a desk and chair to work on, although the placement of the bed made having the chair at the desk awkward. There’s Wifi throughout the hotel, so at least guests can do some work. The room had a ceiling fan, which I kept on anytime I was in the room as Gorakhpur was hot by British standards. The blanket was thick. The fan made it comfortable to sleep though. The walls of the room had a lot of scuff marks and could probably do with a repaint, although nothing dramatic.
The bathroom was fairly standard, functional and clean. The shower worked well with hot water readily available. Liquid soap was also supplied.
Breakfast was part of the booking and starts at 8.30, late by Indian standard. When I went up to the restaurant at 8.35, breakfast was not ready. Nothing had been prepared and I had to wander around the restaurant floor to find out staff. When the dishes did arrive, it was some kind of potato dish, puri and chai.
Location wise, the hotel is located on a side street, slightly hidden from the main road and quiet enough. It’s also about 1.5 km to the main train station and main bus stand. Walkable if you’re determined.
Overall, I had a good stay. The front office staff are excellent and provide excellent service. I can’t say the same about the kitchen staff. The room could do with a refresh, but at this price point, it was good value.
