And equally as close is Partick with its bustling Dumbarton Road, packed full of Glasgow’s banter, yet more pubs, grubs and a mile of second hand and antique stores …and home to Glasgow’s very own fast-growing Chinatown.
It is also a 15-minute walk to the SECC; 20 mins walk to the Hydro, and 5 mins to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, which fronts Kelvingrove Park and the University of Glasgow. The Kelvin Art Gallery and Museum is the ultimate neighbour, and is definitely worth checking out as a free afternoon, extend with a walk through the park and stop off at s hipster café or restaurant en-route.
The Dukes Bar is a quirky place located next to the apartment, just a minute’s walk down the hill, past a great Spanish Tapas restaurant ‘Elena’s’, and the ultimate Breakfast joint ‘Brunch’ just opposite.
If you keep going, you’ll hit ‘The Islay’ on the left or ‘The Ben Nevis’ on the right, both with live traditional Scottish music and loads of energy.
Kelvingrove park is awesome any time of the year. In summer, watch out for picnics and bbqs and ad-hoc pop up sound systems. Or hold out til later on where you’ll see more organised gigs at the Bandstand. If you walk along the River Kelvin, you can head towards the Botanic Gardens, which head out onto Byre’s Road, the perfect stop for a coffee or lunch.
For beer fans, dog walkers and hip kids, rated one of the best bars in Scotland, head down to Indeep, a 15 min walk across the park (or 2 stops on the Underground) located on the river Kelvin under Kelvin Bridge, on Great Western Road. This hip West End Craft Bar is part of the Williams Brothers Brewery guys and is on the edge of all things fine in beer, music and food.
