Spacious and relaxing mountain chalet, perfect location! Many renovations!

Welcome to Ursa Major!! (aka The Great Bear, or The Big Dipper)

We are proud to invite you to enjoy our 3 bedroom, 3 bath home in the heart of Chalet Village, Gatlinburg. Larger than most homes in the area, we feature spacious living and game rooms, full size pool table and bar, hot tub and sauna, two wrap-around decks and seasonal views! Plus access to Chalet Village Owner's Club community pools, fitness center and tennis courts. Many renovations have been completed to modernize this classic chalet.

Located in the heart of Chalet Village, Ursa Major has easy access to downtown Gatlinburg, the main entrance to Smoky Mountain National Park, Ober Gatlinburg, Chalet Village community pools, and is a quick drive to Pigeon Forge. This is an amazing mountain retreat, and the property size ensures that you're not too close to your neighbors. If you've been in this area, you know that the roads can sometimes be exciting to say the least! The drive to our house does feature a couple of switchbacks and climbs, but is easily doable and the driveway can accommodate 3 cars.

Upon entering, you'll instantly relax when you step into the open concept living room with vaulted ceilings and wall of windows that let in tons of natural light from the wrap-around deck. Also, we have updated the kitchen with new stainless steel appliances and large dining area.

Downstairs, you'll be thrilled with all of the features you're looking for in a mountain vacation home: Extra large hot tub on the deck, classic full size Brunswick pool table (with enough room to play!), wet bar with a microwave and coffee maker, large screen TV, and bonus Sauna!!

Ursa Major comfortably sleeps 8 people with 2 bedrooms on the main floor and one downstairs. The Master King suite with private bathroom has a jetted two-person tub. The second upstairs bedroom features a Queen bed with an adjacent full bathroom. The third bedroom downstairs has a King bed and another adjacent full bathroom. Plus we have a day bed with trundle in the game room. All bedrooms have TVs and cable package.

Please enjoy your stay and share your best memories! We're committed to delivering the best Gatlinburg vacation experience, and look forward to hosting many repeat visitors.

SEASONAL GUIDE TO STAYING AT URSA MAJOR
Staying at Ursa Major or the Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area is amazing all year round, but there are some things things that are better depending on the season. Here's a general guide:

Spring (March/April/May)
Temperatures are generally mild with highs mostly in the 60s-70s and lows in the mid 30s-50s. March is one of the busiest months in the area. Bears are starting to venture out of their dens and seeing them around the neighborhood is a regular occurrence (sometimes even with new cubs!). Wildflowers and lightning bugs also are stars of the National Park. Increasing spring rains bring new green foliage, full streams and waterfalls. Note that mountain views from Ursa Major begin to lessen as the leaves fill in. Also, this is a great time to check out Dollywood when it opens for the year.

Summer (June/July/August)
Average highs in the high 80s and lows in the 60s. Chalet Village pools and recreational facilities are open to Ursa Major guests, and usually are open between Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you're looking for great hiking, the National Park is in full swing. On hotter days, keep in mind that the temperatures cool off by sometimes 10 degrees or more at the higher elevations. Views are obscured by dense trees at Ursa Major at this time and it feels like a cozy treehouse in the forest!

Fall (September/October/November)
Obviously the area is known for its amazing fall colors, and Ursa Major is right in the middle of the show! Though the timing of the peak colors vary from year to year, generally you will get to see some foliage between mid-September and early November. The timing also varies by elevation (Ursa Major is about 1100 feet above the town of Gatlinburg). There are many fall festivals happening including Octoberfest at Ober Gatlinburg, Gatlinburg Chili Cookoff, the Craftmen's Fair, Ripley's Fright Nights leading up to Halloween, and more.

Winter (December/January/February)
While this is the generally the slowest tourist time of year in the area, it's also a great opportunity to enjoy the area without the crowds! If shopping is your thing, that is definitely still on in downtown Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. If you like to ski, Ober Gatlinburg is usually open and they do have snow making capabilities (check their site for current conditions). With the leaves having fallen, mountain views from Ursa Major's window-filled living room and decks are at their best. Make sure to see an amazing sunset from the chalet! Also, keep an eye on the weather - snow and ice are possible, and conditions can even change from downtown on the way up the mountain. Four wheel drive vehicles and snow chains may be needed to get around Chalet Village in the winter months.

Nice place with plenty of room
The mountain chalet was a comfortable and spacious place for me and four additional adult family members. We stayed five nights and were able to come back each day after hiking and siteseeiing to enjoy a quiet and relaxing time resting in the comfy beds, living room or hot tub. The place was very clean and well stocked. The kitchen is a little bit tiny but we made do. It is quite a windy and a little bit scary drive to the cabin for me -a flatlander ;) - but my husband didn’t have a problem. The bear were definitely around. One crawled in our car after we brought pizza home- we forgot to lock the doors and it could smell the pizza though there was none in the car. No damage but gave my sister a fright when she went out to get something g outside and the bear was right there. Another bear crawled up the tree as my husband was sitting in the hot tub literally about ten feet away! The owners were very responsive and it was super easy to check in and out. We definitely recommend this place! and stocked well.

Exactly what we needed!
My family and I came down to Gatlinburg for my daughters dance nationals. This house was about 15 minutes from the convention center, which is where we needed to go daily. The house was cery clean, and organized. We loved the hot tub out on the patio. The seperate upstairs/downstairs was perfect for splitting up the family and the gameroom bed was perfect for my 4 and 6 year olds! The community pool was PERFECT for my kids. It was clean, nice staff, and facilities were cleaned. We were bery careful to keep our car doors locked and food out od the vehicle. However, we did come home for a quick lunch and shower. We came back outside to find the passenger door was opened and the neighbors stated a bear opened it. The bear was next door and smashed the window of that vehicle...thankfully not ours! SO...make sure you DO NOT HAVE FOOD IN YOUR CAR, and LOCK YOUR DOORS! We did see about 6 bears in the area. They are really cute, but that last bear was a little intense. Must've been a mama! The communication between myself and the owners was very womderful. We needed to extend our stau by one day. The week before, they reached out right back with confirmation. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would love to stay there again!

Great visit
Loved the house. However, there was an odd smell like a musty or moldy smell. We sprayed some Scentsy air freshener and it was fine. If you are not Mountain driving people be aware. We were fine with it and saw several bears everything we went up or down. We would stay again.

Lovely property that had everything you could ask for. Including daily visits from the local bears. (We actually loved seeing them after we got use to it). The owner was fast to reply on questions and concern. We spent 4 nights at this property and found it to be a nice trip to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge and the Smokies. Made sure we headed back before dark as the switch back road getting to the house was a bit scary the first time but had no trouble after the first time in daylight. The hot tub and sauna were wonderful as well as the pool table. We loved being on the deck in the evening and first thing in the morning as the sun was coming up. The house had lots of space for 4 of us and a 7 month old baby.

Christmas Getaway
From the minute we arrived, I knew this cabin was going to be perfect for my family. I have stayed in several cabins in the Gatlinburg area and the interior of this one is my favorite so far. The main floor is so comfortable windows everywhere. The kitchen looks small on the pictures, but it is an open enough floor plan so you really don't think about it. The master bed room is huge. All bedrooms were very comfortable and met our needs. I have a 13 year old and she stayed on the bed in the game room and loved it. It gave her some space. Speaking of the game room, it has a very nice pool table with everything you need and a perfectly placed bar area. The hot tub was perfect and we used it every night. My favorite part of the cabin is that it has wood burning fireplaces on both levels. It was wonderful to have one upstairs while watching tv, but also be able to light one if you are going to be downstairs. Make sure to bring your own wood. I grilled burgers and the grill works great. I had a few questions for Pete during the week and he answered me very quickly every time. He even called once to explain something, so the hosts are great. All week we were looking for the bears. On the last day, after we had given up, I was about to go outside to put something in my truck and there they were walking down the road. We watched 4 of them for about 15 minutes. If I had to say anything negative, I have stayed in cabins with better views, but it is still good. Great place. 10/10!!!

Attention to detail by owner is great! I’ve been to several cabins where pool sticks were broken and no chalk or maybe hot tub wasn’t functioning properly. However, this owner was wonderful. Flexible and attention to detail were spot on. Hot tub was clean and working. Pool table had nice cues and included ample chalk. We got to see some bears coming up the mountain on the way to the cabin. Great experience overall - thank you!

Truly enjoyed our stay. The house is older but still very comfortable. Two levels so we had kids on the bottom and adults on top. Wifi and cable so I still got to watch ball games. Owners were very quick to respond to questions. Only wish we had time to stay a few more days.

Beautiful setting
We stayed 3 nights. Location is beautiful. It rained most of our stay. Cabin was cozy. One side of the house was letting water in from the rain so our charcoal got wet, but it was fine. Messaged owner and received an immediate response. Was expecting new towels the next day due to having to get the water off the floor. We didn’t get any, but we’re able to wash what we had (was more worried about damage to the house for the owner). Bears greeted us within 20 minutes of our arrival. It was a very nice stay!

Awesome Experience!
From before we even arrived, the hosts were very easy to communicate with. On our arrival day we received a call that there was more snow than expected and due to ice on the roads, we may not be able to make it up that day. Thankfully it all worked out and we were able to check in. The cabin was extremely clean and stocked with all the basic items we needed (plates, silverware, dishwasher pods, laundry pods, bandaids, trash bags, and more). On our second night a bear visited the cabin and tried opening the car doors. We texted the host and he texted us the video! It was definitely a highlight for us. Despite it being cold from the snow and ice, we were able to use the hot tub outside and it felt nice. A few of the family members also used to suana almost nightly. We played pool and also enjoyed some of the other games and card deck that was there. I will say the drive up the mountain was definitely nerve wrecking, especially at night. My recommendation is to use lower gears, take your time, and back into the driveway. It helps to have someone guide you in. All in all, this was an amazing vacation and we highly recommend staying here!

Last minute fall break getaway!
We loved this place! The kids loved being in a mountain cabin...and the adults loved being so close to downtown Gatlinburg while feeling like we were on top of a mountain far away. We got to experience BEARS!!!! The owners give plenty of warning....please follow the advice! We never felt like we were in danger...afterall this is their country not ours. We have lived in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains our entire lives but never encountered a real bear until this trip! Follow the rules and you will be safe. LOCK YOUR CARS! These fellas are smart! WE woke after the first night to all the car doors open! I blamed the kids for not closing the doors the night before until we saw paw prints on the inside. I reached out to the owners (mostly because I could not believe all the doors would be opened by a bear without scratches or destruction choosing to believe my kids were careless lol) and asked them to review the ring doorbell camera. They quickly responded with the video...showing this bear gently opening the car doors with his teeth! It is a crazy way...it made the whole trip and we became believers in following the advice and caution by our hosts!!! As I told them, we could have ridden every ride at Dollywood WITH Dolly herself and it would not have been nearly as cool to our kids as a bear getting in our cars looking for snacks! (By the way....they dislike hot Cheetoes!) We cannot wait to book this cabin again! The cabin had tons of room for hanging out, playing pool, relaxing in the hot tub and so much more! Please book this cabin and your will not regret it!!!!!
