This property was about 20 to 25 minutes walking distance with a fare pace from the city centre. If not, you can take a taxi for about 10 euros cash. The room was a fare size however the carpet in the room and in the hotel was quite old with some spots of stain. The heat was malfunctioning so both nights we stayed were a bit chilly and the tv control was not functioning properly as we mentioned twice. I believe next time we go to Galway, we will stay in an other hotel an d stay closer.
I was happy that this property had a fully wheelchair accessible room - been travelling around Ireland and what some properties consider is accessible is quite amusing. They advertise king bed but it is only a double - not even a queen. It has a nice area to sit in the lobby and 1st floor if you did not want to be in your room. They advertise online ordering for inroom dining but does not work on phones - you get an error that it is not working. Called front desk and they transfered to restaurant and after 30 rings hung up. Got myself downstairs and had them heat up some left over soup from lunch and ordered seafood chowder which is described as 10.50€ with brown bread (later that night on my laptop found out online ordering works there). I received 3/4's of a to go cofffee cup of soup and no bread and was charged 11.50€. That was one expensive 175ml of soup! In Canada that would have cost $18 which is robbery. The reason why I ended up getting to know the sitting area on the 1st floor? The soup gave my husband food poisoning so I spent time there listening to the night clerk sing, watch soaps on tv, the cleaning lady wash the lobby floor and the chef arrive to work. My husband had a miserable morning. I asked for a later checkout and the desk clerk cut me off when I told her why and said I could only have until noon. As a person with disabilities who had to care for their carer it was a very unfortunate 2nd night of our 2 night stay.
We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The hotel / rooms are exceptionally clean. You need a room key to access bedroom floors from the lift and also to gain access to hallways so it feels extra safe and stops people just wandering around!
Great food, very central and rooms are very comfortable. Great short-term stay option, will definitely be staying here again!! 👍👍
Fabulous room! Hotel check in staff were very good and helpful. Only complaint would be the waitress service and variability in meal and drink prices each day.
The bedrooms are comfortably, although the beds are very high and the lighting is not good.
On arrival we were not given any directions, had to rely on guests to show us were the lifts were and the procedure on using the card system to access lifts and corridor doors. The breakfast area is very small and food not covered. Not a great selection for such a large Hotel. Also dinner menu very poor, again not a great selection. Most of the staff very pleasant. Had with the shower which was addressed the same day. Although had to forgo shower on day one. Not a great lounge area. Also there choice of taxis needs addressing. Was charged €10.00 from Hotel to Bus Station on leaving.
While off a busy road, it's situated in an area that is walkable to a number of places. I don't mind the walk and it took 20 minutes to reach the city center and 30 minutes to walk to the north campus of Univ of Galway. The facilities are modern and tidy. The unexpected surprise was having a convenience store on the premise - cheaper prices for things than $20 euro breakfast.
We only stayed overnight but it was clean, bed was comfortable. It is a chained hotel and we stayed at another Maldron in Dublin. I like that they are consistent and therefore reliable and meet expectation.
