Hostal Rubio
4/5 Good
An excellent hostal run by a friendly young couple
"I enjoyed my stay at the Hostal, which is centrally located in Baracoa. The young couple who run it - the husband speaks very good English - is lovely, friendly and helpful.
You can have breakfast at the top, on the terrace, with a very good view of the town and surroundings. They can also serve dinner if you wish, and the food they serve is better than the average restaurant in Cuba.
The room I had was comfortable and very clean. Overall, the building is in very good condition and up to standards, on a par with family-run hotels in Europe.
The power cuts are a problem in the town, but there is a generator that helps enormously. Internet access (WiFi) does not always work so well inside the room, but, as a rule, it works well in the reception area (except when there is a power cut, as this affects the internet network across town).
Overall, an excellent hostal - one of the best I stayed at during my 4-week trip across Cuba in March 2025. "
