The hotel is clean and comfortable and most of the staff are pleasant and helpful. The hotel interiors are dated and tired so is in need of a refurbishment. We chose the hotel as it is pet friendly and we had our 5 year old Cocker Spaniel with us. We had a pleasant stay until breakfast. We entered the restaurant with our dog in open view of all the staff. We were told to sit wherever we would like in the restaurant so we sat at a table with our dog. We had a nice breakfast which we had mostly finished when the restaurant manager shouted in an abrupt manner across the restaurant that dog’s weren’t allowed in and we had to go to the lounge. We felt put out by this a it would only have needed a quite polite word to ask us to retire to the lounge. We would not have minded sitting outside the restaurant to have breakfast if requested when we entered but were welcomed with our dog.

We had a wonderful stay. What a real Gem of a place. We stayed 2 nights in a family room (double & 2 full sized singles). Having read some less than favourable reviews we were a little nervous but we were delightfully surprised by what we found. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The corridor we stayed in had been recently decorated and was clean and fresh. The room hadn’t yet been upgraded but it was perfectly clean and met our needs (although it was very warm). The ladies changing rooms had been renovated and were fabulous. We choose to shower here each day after our swim rather than use the shower over the bath in room as they were so lovely. There was GHD hairdryers and straighteners available for use too. The pool was also lovely and clean and perfect for the kids. The staff were lovely, welcoming and so friendly. I was staying on my own with my kids and they could not have been more helpful. We even came home on the second day to find wonderful towel art on the beds. The kids loved this! We didn’t book breakfast due to poor reviews but we went along on our last morning and it was wonderful. The continental selection was varied and fresh. As the hotel was quiet we were told there was no buffet so everything was made fresh to order. My son rated their eggs in his top 5 which is real praise. As an added bonus I was able to use the free charging point twice and left on our last morning fully charged which saved us a stop off on our way home. Definitely recommend.

Really nice view from the superior rooms. Pleasant and relaxing stay. Couldn’t get in the pool as it was always too busy but the gym was nice and clean and full of decent kit. Would definitely stay again.

I will be back as the hotel was clean, convennient and a good price, Good TV, wireless was acceptable but a little confusing to log on first time. The bed was comfortable and gave a good nights sleep. The reason for marking its condition down is the expereince is a throwback to the 70's, can't remember the last time I came across a PINK bathroom, and the plastic bath felt flimsy underfoot. The carpets in the corridors are worn, badly in places that has been covered with gaffer tape to keep the worn ends down, The internal doors between sections look tired and seem to open awkwardly e.g. you have to go through the R/H side rather than the L/H one as I have found in other hotels. Overall this could be a real gem if some money was pumped in to carry out a phased upgrade of the facility

Misleading about pet friendliness, lied to Hotels.
We were turned away because we had a cat with us. This property is listed as pet friendly, and prior to today, did not state that it is "dogs only" as the receptionist stated upon our arrival. They said the cat can't come in and would have to stay in the car park. He said there's dogs in the hotels and if the cat got out "it would be murdered". That was very condescending, I've stayed at plenty hotels with both cats and dogs and no one got out or got murdered. We did not stay here as a result as we were not comfortable leaving the cat in the car. It wasn't that the cat would have an issue with it (cats keep to themselves after all, and we have a litter box/food/water set up as we do long drives), but rather I didn't feel comfortable leaving the cat unattended. Even the Beat Western site for this location only stated that it's pet friendly, noting "dogs will be charged 15 gbp" but did not mention any exclusions. I was willing to pay for the cat but that wasn't an option. The receptionist then proceeded to state "I wouldn't leave my cat in a car but that's not my business" (paraphrasing the last part as I was very unnerved at that point). When I tried to get a refund from Hotels.com, they said they can not do so because the Best Western said we stayed there. That is a lie. It can be verified on CCTV that we left the property after that interaction and did not return. We stayed elsewhere in the center of Chester at a much more accommodating place.
