This was our first visit to St. Croix, and we hope to come back someday. Everything about our stay was even better than we had imagined. Our condo was well-equipped with everything we could need, was right on the beach, and the check-in and out process was smooth. The property manager met us upon arrival, showed us the property and amenities, and answered our questions. We didn't really need to use air conditioning because of the eastern breeze that blows this time of year. It was just wonderful having a spacious balcony that was open to the ocean breeze and sounds. We weren't able to rent a car, as none were available that week and we hadn't thought to reserve one ahead of time, but we were able to get everything we needed by walking to Frederiksted, about a mile away, and we used local taxi drivers to get over to Christiansted for a day. It felt safe to walk at night between Frederiksted and our condo, and the security system with locking gates helped, too. The snorkeling is wonderful wherever you go, from right outside the condo building to right next to the pier in town, but there's also Sandy Point Beach just on the other side of the condo--we basically had that beach to ourselves most days. It's closed during certain months for turtle migration, but we were lucky in December. The only discomfort we dealt with was some noise--due to being the week of Carnival, on several nights there was not just music, but a thudding bassline sound that made sleep a little difficult. It seemed to be coming from across the bay where the festivities were held. Noise-canceling earbuds, along with some recorded white noise, helped quite a bit. We went to the festivities and enjoyed checking out the food vendors and the traditional music and dancers in their historical attire. We also enjoyed several restaurants, our favorite being Uma's Kitchen where we had some delicious Carribean vegan cuisine. It was really a perfect vacation.
