There was so much more. "Our arrival at the front door coincided with the manager walking out to switch on the central heating. No introductions were offered or made which left us feeling rather underwhelmed. Our room was exceptionally clean although a little tired and in need of some maintenance. The other house guests had booked through companies that specialise in walking tours and were provided with lunch packs each day. "The property was gorgeous and well-appointed. Margarida was a very friendly hostess. The room was very large and very quiet. It looked out into a large yard that had beautiful gardens and pool area. Our breakfast was extensive and generous. A great stay for off the beaten path-very relaxing. In a very nice town."

"we arrived and the hotel was closed with no response to our knocking at the entranc,totally deserted!! A neighbor told us it has been closed down . We had to drive a while in the dark to find a hotel for the night in another town. Very frustrating !!"

"Petite pause sur le retour vers la France. Site et région magnifique. La vue du bord de la piscine est tres relaxante. La situation est idéale pour les amateur d'activité fluviale et de vin. Les hôtes sont tres sympas, anglais et portugais parlé. Accueilli avec un plateau apéritif et du vin de la region et petit dejeuner copieux offert le lendemain. Je recommande vivement. "Pictures of the property in expedia does not make justice of the beautiful place and surroundings. All rooms face the amazing Douro River. Waking up and opening the windows for the sun to come in with the river view was priceless. The nights are so peaceful and quiet. Friends and families stayed with us and loved as well. Strongly recommended if staying overnight in Pinhão - Douro Valley"

"We had an excellent time at Torel Quinta da Vacaria. They exceeded our expectations. This place truly is luxurious with a full spa. There is an outdoor pool and indoor pool. Steam rooms are open to all resort guests. The free breakfast was delicious with iberian ham included. The on site vineyard wine tasting was great too. Nice museum-like display told the history of douro valley vineyards."

The PERFECT place to stay in Douro Valley

"Our four night stay at Casa do Santo was FANTASTIC! The estate is beautiful, elegant and stylish, and Maria and her staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and to make you feel spoiled. The included breakfast was excellent, and so was the dinner that the estate offers upon request. Our room was spacious and lovely. The property has beautiful views of vineyards, and the tiny town in the gorgeous Douro Valley that it’s located in, Provesende, is charming. We hope to return, because Casa do Santo is an ABSOLUTE GEM!!!"
