Lovely Apt. W/ Grand Piano in Oltrarno near Pitti Palace

This is a lovely, elegant and quiet apartment, totally renovated with central heating, central AC (a $10,000 system!) and with new appliances, in the heart of Florence. Yes, 7 min. walk from the Ponte Vecchio on the Arno River, and you will be so, so, so happy not to be living in the middle of the mobs of tourists and selfie-stick vendors. Oltrarno is by far the best, least touristy neighbourhood. We are at Via Romana 29, 50 meters from the entrance to the Boboli Gardens, next door to the Pitti Palace. You will find a magnificent Yamaha C3 piano, the fastest wi-fi internet in Italy (1 GB speed!), a new SMART TV with DVD and VHS player and a new SONY audio system that will permit you to play your own music via Bluetooth from you cell phone or a USB plug. Oh, the Wi-Fi is free! Oh, and there's a yoga mat for yoga enthusiasts!

It consists of an entrance and living room, a fully equipped kitchen with a table for four, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a closet room, central heating, telephone, washer, dishwasher, microwave, and insect screens on the windows! The apartment is on the second floor of our building.

My wife and I came to Italy in 1973, when I began work as a photographer. Our pianist/composer son, William, who was born and raised in Italy, lived in this flat a couple of years before deciding to seek his fortune back in the U.S.A.

Florence needs no introduction. Suffice it to say that Unesco (the cultural branch of the United Nations) did a study 15 years ago which declared that 60% of the world's artistic heritage is on Italian soil. 30% of that is in Florence alone. But if that isn't enough to tickle your fancy, remember the Chianti vineyards within 30 min. drive, the towns of Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo and Pisa, the beaches of Viareggio and the Maremma, all easy drives on excellent roads. Florence is only a 90 min. train ride from Rome on the high-speed trains and Umbria is the region just south of Tuscany. So within two hours you can reach Perugia, Spoleto, Assisi and that magical town Todi, where we also rent a home (see Listing 247510).

We ask that you reimburse us for the gas and electricity during the cold months. During summer rentals only the electricity will be charged. Both are metered. The City of Florence levies a tourist tax of €5.5 per person for a maximum of 7 nights. Children under 12 are exempt. We will collect this at the end of your stay.

If there is no road work taking place in our neighborhood we can provide free parking in public spots that are not checked on by the municipal police. I can park one of our cars there and let you take the spot when you arrive.

What a lovely space in the absolutely best area. George was amazing to work with and you truly feel like you’re one of the neighbors. Definitely recommend this space for a couple and it really just feels like home !

Exceptional Space

George and Lynn went out of their way to see that we were comfortable and felt Florentine for the week. The location could not be better for experiencing classic destinations but still being in an authentic residential setting. We were joined by our two adult children but this would be an equally good spot for a couple.

Vacation Like You Live in Florence!
Located in a lovely neighborhood, away from the noise and crowds, our apartment had all of the things we needed to feel at home. George, our host was very responsive to all requests and questions. With a two week stay, we were able to cook in the well-stocked kitchen instead of going out all the time which was great. I cooked a lot. Our family of three adults enjoyed the comfort of A/C in both bedrooms AND living room. Great laundromat located next door with washers AND dryers!! We truly enjoyed our stay!

Beautiful property in great locations
We loved staying here! We felt so spoiled with the fully equipped kitchen because we love to cook. Added bonus having the piano which was wonderful because we both play. Comforting accommodations with Italian flair
Our stay in Italy was very pleasant due to our location and host. The location put us close to historic Florence by foot, but just outside the constant flow of touristy traffic. George is a very helpful and his attention to details shows with all the extras. Amenities including AC in each room, a full size fridge, and fresh flowers made us feel at home. Note that for some guests, the hike to third floor might be a barrier. Hoping you enjoy your stay too!

A dream come true
This was a comfortable, beautifully appointed apartment in a wonderful location. Our VRBO host was informative, kind, helpful and accessible. Awesome location and nice digs for your stay in Florence.
This was our second rental in Italy on a European adventure. We loved this apartment. The stairs are a significant workout but that's healthy! There were fresh flowers, a wide range of books, easy and pretty speedy wi-fi, a kitchen with all you might need to cook (we chose not to) comfortable beds and a storage room that made it easy for drying the laundry and storing our suitcases outside the rooms. It is an excellent location, walking distance to the beautiful Boboli Gardens, Ponte Vecchio, and the Doumo. Check in was smooth, good communication from the owner and even extras like a bottle of wine for us! I highly recommend this VRBO for your stay in Florence.

Great 1 br apartment with comfortable bed, two living areas, usable kitchen and a washer. About .5 mile to Ponte Vecchio Bridge, just feet from Boboli gardens entrance. Several local restaurants and bars on the street as well as bus stops on the street. Could accommodate 3 with pull out bed. Owner met us, was helpful in orienting us and making recommendations about the neighborhood.

Perfect location.
We were able to walk to all the popular sites in Florence and then return to our apartment across the river into a more sedate neighborhood. Lovely,spacious apartment in the heart of Florence
This is a lovely apartment, with all amenities from hair dryers to washing machine. All of Florence is within walking distance. The kitchen has great cooking facilities; there is a wonderful bar right next door. Only negative: The front bedroom, while beautiful and spacious, is noisy at night even when the windows and shutters are closed. This would not stop us from returning!

A Really Great Apartment In Just the Right Spot
We stayed in the apartment for 9 days. This apartment was fantastic from the moving-in to moving-out day. It is perfectly situated, just outside the hubbub of Centro but close enough to so that it’s an easy walk. Plus, there is so much to do in Oltrarno we ended up spending most of our time in the Santo Spirito and San Frediano neighborhoods. The apartment itself is nicely laid out, especially if a second bedroom is appropriate. Everything worked, everything was clean, there were more than enough dishes, cutlery and cooking supplies. Even the washing machine worked, which in our experience In Europe isn’t always a given. George met us at the apartment and stayed in touch with us via Whatsapp the whole time, making sure everything was just right. He definitely was not an absentee landlord. My only regret is that I had to leave.

Don't hesitate--book this!
This is an ideally located apartment, away from the tourist areas in a neighborhood of local shops where we were quickly welcomed as friends. The apartment itself was very spacious and comfortable for four adults and allowed us to unpack and really feel at home. We had the option to eat in after shopping at the local butcher, package store and pasticceria that George pointed out; and the chance to do laundry mid-week and the apartment was stocked with a full library of travel books that we used extensively. George is an accommodating host, meeting us for early check-in, helping us park, suggesting travel destinations and restaurants and helping to arrange for our early morning taxi to the airport. I would highly recommend this property and only wish we could have stayed longer!

Perfect apartment, location and host!
I can’t rate this apartment and host highly enough! I rented this because I needed a piano to practice during my stay, but it was all perfect! George (host) communicated with me before, sending me information about things to do while I was in Florence. My train was delayed and so I arrived late but George waited patiently for me to arrive and greeted me with a cool glass of water, showed me around, kindly leaving me with a bottle of vino to kick start my trip. The location was perfect, central to everything you want to see, cafe across the road for morning cappuccino, beautiful restaurant next door and supermarket just down the street. George is a great host, the apartment is stunning and well equipped, I would definitely book this again!

Fantastic host and apartment!
George was a fantastic host! The apartment was super clean and very comfortable. We had everything we needed and George explained everything so well. He really took pride in his home and we felt grateful he opened it to us for our stay. We traveled with 2 kids ages 12 and 13 and had no issues walking anywhere. It was a quick walk to Pitti Palace and then 15-20 min walk to the Duomo. There were plenty of restaurants nearby that were excellent. My advice- no car is needed in Florence at all. You can’t drive in most of the streets due to restrictions. We had a car but left it in a spot and didn’t touch it again for 4 days. We wanted to do some day trips but opted for a train to Pisa due to the hassle of getting the car etc. Overall I would recommend this stay to anyone- it was a great experience. Would love to go back again!

Great stay in Florence
This little apartment was the perfect place for our girls trip to Florence. George was a great host and communicated well with us a few days ahead of our stay, so we knew exactly what to expect. He met us upon our arrival with a cold glass of water and stayed a short time to show us around the apartment and gave us a few great food recommendations. The apartment was in the perfect location to walk to all of the must see sights. It was hot during our stay, but the place stayed fairly cool. There is air conditioning, but we only used it at night to cool things down. It was very clean and the beds were comfy. At the end of our stay we asked how we could get ahold of a taxi company for our departure and George kindly called a taxi for us! If we ever make it back to this beautiful city (and I hope we do) we would definitely stay here again!

Perfect apartment, location and host!
The apartment was exactly what I was looking for in my stop in Florence on my first trip (definitely not my last) to Italy. It was extremely clean, comfortable, cozy, very quiet, and in a charming local neighborhood. You are just blocks away from Boboli Gardens and less than a five minute walk from the Pitti Palace. It is a quick, easy walk across the river to all the other major attractions in Florence. And George (your host), could not have been more helpful and exceptionally quick answering any and all questions and offering great advice on restaurants, things to do/see and recommended the best personal guide named Beatrice. Lastly, as a solo traveler, safety was a high priority for me and I felt very safe and secure in this apartment and the area overall – even walking around in the evening returning just after dark from dinner or events. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend.

Rustic charm
We really enjoyed our time in Florence. The apartment is in a fantastic location just down the street from the Pitti Palace. There are supermarkets and restaurants very close by. The apartment is very similar to the photographs, but there is a table in the living area now which does make the space feel small (although I think for people that are cooking for themselves, the table is a welcome addition). The place feels well loved, it's very rustic. The bedrooms are a good size and the beds are comfortable. It was very hot when we were there and the air con in the bedrooms allowed us to sleep well at night. We found that the air con in the living area couldn't cool us down enough so that was quite difficult. George is a fantastic host - he was fabulous at communicating with us and was incredibly helpful when it came to finding a park for our car. We have been travelling in Europe for 7 weeks and have stayed in a lot of different apartments and this is the first one where we have had the electric metre monitored and then had to pay an additional charge for using electricity. We are not a fan of that system. Overall, George is a wonderful host, the apartment is in a great location but it wasn't quite our cup of tea.
