Wonderful retreat
I am so glad we found this gem! From the minute you walk in you feel the history of the home. The furnishings are beautiful! The home is roomy- I had 6 kids in the house and it didn’t feel cramped. The beach is awesome. The spot to catch the sunset was our favorite spot. The owner lives next door and was very attentive. I will rent again!!

Dream vacation at the beach
So so pleasantly surprised to walk into a rental to find it EXACTLY as presented and described. Perfect for our group of 5 adults & two toddlers, as well as our family reunion of 18. Lazy days & nights on the beach and plenty of room to hang out in the house. Especially nice to have enough room for folks to get a little private time. Only suggestion would be the addition of a washing machine. Thanks Eve!

Lucky to call this place home for a few days while in Michigan
Unique, memorable and fun spot to call home for a few days while in Michigan for a wedding. Was able to host extended family for a beach day while there. Communication from property owner was great, enough space to sleep 9 comfortably. A great find!

Perfect family time together!
We loved the old 1855 house! The antiques, old books, historical layout of the house, the deck overlooking the lake, the private beach, the creek for the kids to play in, so many interesting stones, all made for the best memories. The beds were so pretty and fit with the decor. The kitchen was well equipped. Eve was so kind to leave welcoming gifts. The website said pet friendly, but we were surprised by the $300 fee as it was not stated on the website information page. We hope to rent the Orchard House again!

The Orchard House never disappoints
This is my favorite place to stay in southwest Michigan because we can skip down to South Haven/ St Joe or up to Douglas/ Saugatuck. However we hardly leave; the beach and lake are always calling. This House has so many stories to tell, and when we return, I always feel like I'm visiting an old friend. Thank you Eve!

Women's Gathering
We are a group of six women who gathered for both personal, individual time, as well as time together. We found the house to be welcoming, clean and comfortable with plenty of room for all of us, even on a rainy day. The beach and lake are breathtaking day and night. We enjoyed the stars and campfires on the private beach at night and swimming and long walks during the day. Eve is a friendly and very responsive host. Hoping to return!

Didn’t want to leave!
It was like walking into the movie On Golden Pond! Opening the door to a room all aglow from the sun setting over lake MI was a perfect welcome. We were in town from CA visiting family and this was our first stop. We had planned to make day trips all the way up the coast to Benzonia to see the Gwen Frostic studio but there was so much to see and enjoy in the area that we didn’t stray too far. We spent mornings on the deck overlooking the bluff and evenings on the screened in porch with our drinks and crosswords. We made most of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. Brought our own bottled water for tea etc. The breeze kept the mosquitos away. We didn’t turn on the tv and enjoyed the unplugging! My 90 yr old mom even took the stairs down to the beach to look for stones and watch us swim. Water shoes were good to have for the rocks until you got to the sandy bottom just past the shoreline. We had super weather and were lucky to get a Pure Michigan thunderstorm just before our last day! :) The sound of the waves at night with the breeze through the pines was a dreamy way to fall asleep. The beds were super comfy and we left the windows open to cool down the house at night. Eve and Tim were perfect hosts and made us feel welcome. The Orchard House was hard to leave but we look forward to coming back next summer and stay longer!

Family time
We absolutely loved this house! The history and character offered a unique experience to our family get together. It also had plenty spaces for my family of adult kids, their partners and 2 yr old grandson to play together or have quiet time as needed. Although the weather was not Michigan’s finest, we enjoyed the beach, the deck and sunset views. Upon leaving, everyone agreed that they would love to return.

Multi-generation vacation
The Orchard House was absolutely wonderful. It was historic, tastefully understated, spacious, lovingly lived-in, well-stocked with everything we needed. We gathered our family from various states in the Midwest and one from Boston to spend a long weekend on Lake Michigan. We had 7 staying at the house (ranging from college students to middle-aged parents to our 85-year-old father). Then, we had 7 more join us for the day on that Saturday (the youngest was 13 years old) ending in a cookout (they stayed in a hotel, but if you have a large group, you could rent the nice house next door). We used the relaxing screened in porch for coffee and meals, played yard games in the back, had drinks on the deck above the bluff to watch the waves and sunsets, and swam and searched for interesting rocks on the private beach below. It was a magical stay. We had one problem in that our elderly father had some medical issues while there, but he received excellent care from Zeeland Community Hospital which was an easy drive away. Overall, we truly loved our time there and were sad to leave the magic of this beautiful setting behind.

Unhealthy
If you pick this home for a vacation it has a beautiful view and close to the beach. But I want everybody to know the water is terrible. It smells So Bad. You can turn on a faucet and it smells the whole room. Please don’t drink this water. I feel the owner should have a note by the faucets to warn her guest. And the upstairs toilet is unsafe. The platform it’s on makes it hard to sit on the toilet.

Great location right on Lake Michigan
First time to Michigan to experience the fall foliage and it was spectacular. The house was big enough to spread out in and beds were comfy. Our teens/preteen loved it. Note that this is an older house but the kitchen has been updated since the photos were taken. We cooked several meals and found everything we needed. Some reviews mention an older house/camp smell which is present but not bothersome at all. The water system is older and the water does have a sulfur smell to it. The lake view from the house and short walk down to the lake to stroll along the beach was incredible. Eve is a great host and the welcome bottle of local wine and beer was a nice touch.

Beautiful sunsets, but house has issues
The property was in a wonderful location with beautiful sunsets. Eve, the owner, was very helpful with things to do in the area. But we had a few issues with the house. The listing said it had a 3 season porch, but it was only a screened in porch that we weren't able to use. The house smelled very musty that caused problems for two of us, and the bathroom shower curtain was filthy & torn. Also we had a critter in one wall between two bedrooms that kept us awake the last night. But other than those few issues, the house was very comfortable and we enjoyed our time there.

Beach access & sunsets, oh my!
We loved the screened in porch and the beach access. And we were impressed with the cleanliness and the amenities provided. The location was great, close enough to shopping and outdoor activities, but in a quiet residential area. The beach was delightful. This is a historic home with many original features, which was not really a plus for us although we got used to the creaky and uneven floors and musty smell. The living space is dark and the furniture is large and not terribly comfortable. Also, the water is unpleasant for anyone accustomed to modern water systems. Fortunately the location, space, and welcoming amenities make up for most minor complaints.

Magical Pier Cove
We love this lovely yellow house. The way it's tucked into the trees, the original owners next door, the deck at the edge of the bluff, easy to navigate stairs to the beach (30ish?), ever changing topography of the beach, and the rock picking! Eeek! We love it! This home is filled so many antiques, one more beautiful than the next, all with a story, and that's what I love most about this old house; what a story it must have. Five bedrooms to spread out, all with comfy beds. Full bathroom downstairs with shower and full bathroom upstairs with a TUB. The screened in porch is a real gem! Grocery store in Douglas is five minutes away. Isabel's Market and Farmhouse Deli in Douglas are my favorites. Cranes Pie Pantry and Salt of The Earth in Fennville are delish. This was our second time renting the Orchard House and we'll be back.

Great family vacation house!
We loved our time at the charming, historic Orchard House! We brought three of our kids with their spouses and our toddler granddaughter, 9 in all. There was plenty of room for everyone, and the extra leaves for the dining room table made it perfect for our meals. The location was fabulous, with the beach just down the stairs, so we could swim or sit on the sandy beach any time we wanted. The mouth of the creek was close by and that provided another water play option especially great for young children. Beach shoes were helpful too, due to the rocks along much of the shoreline. The hike through the Pier Cove ravine area, with the trailhead just across the street, was a delightful surprise as the beauty of that special area was well worth the morning we spent there. We enjoyed the wine that Eve welcomed us with while watching one of the beautiful sunsets on the deck overlooking the lake. We would definitely enjoy returning another time!
