Mainline train stations can be found either in Farnham or at nearby Alton for easy journeys to either London or the south coast.
Chawton is also nearby, home to Jane Austen’s House Museum, where she wrote a number of her great works. Visit the Gilbert White Museum, and slightly further, Portsmouth with its historic dockyard, Spinnaker Tower, the D-Day and Royal Marines museums, Gunwharf Quays, various museums, art and entertainments, waterside dining and shopping outlets, is about a 50-minute drive. Alton and Alresford are a short drive away, with the Watercress Line steam railway, a delightful trip on an old steam train stopping at various stations along the way.
