Completed in 2025, Saltbrush Casita is a 740 square foot home tucked beneath orange cliffs a half mile from the Grand Staircase National Monument. We offer peace and solitude next to the Monument, but still only five miles from Escalante.
The home is built around a great room, featuring a plush sofa and two lounging chairs, all arranged around giant windows overlooking the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the red cliffs of Boulder Mountain.
The modern full kitchen has a range, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, Nespresso machine, coffee, tea, electric tea kettle, toaster, and a full complement of stainless steel cookware. Many of the dishes were made by Brett, the resident potter at Saltbrush Studio, our on-site pottery.
The main floor bedroom has a queen bed with top-rated Helix Midnight Luxe mattress, ceiling fan, and window overlooking the cliffs behind the house.
The bathroom, which also has a cliff-view window, is a great place to clean up after a day exploring red rock or fly fishing on Boulder Mountain. The full bathroom has a tub, shower, Toto bidet, hair dryer, washer and dryer, plush cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, body-wash, and detergent.
A custom spiral staircase takes you to the loft, which oversees the great room and features its own bank of large windows, providing one of the best views of our famous high-desert landscape. The loft also has a queen-size bed with Helix mattress and small walk-in closet.
The sleeper sofa in the great room can accommodate a fifth guest (for an additional fee).
The Saltbrush Guest House has heat/AC, hi-speed WIFI, HD smart TV, key pad for self check-in, and a 220 power outlet (NEMA 14-50R) for charging an electric vehicle.
The shaded patio is nestled against the cliffs and has comfortable chairs for lounging. Enjoy the warmth of the hammered-steel propane fire pit while dinner cooks on the Weber grill.
Pets aren’t allowed, but our jackrabbits and resident Kit Fox are welcome, provided they stay off the furniture.
There is a Nest doorbell which can record audio and video outside the front door. If needed, we can also use it communicate.
Utah has the highest concentration of certified International Dark Sky Parks and Communities in the world and there is no better place than Saltbrush to experience the night sky. During the day, you are free to explore our eight acres. Enjoy our small slot canyon and wander the landscape blanketed in native Grama Grass, Utah Cedar, piñon, sage, cacti, (eponymous) saltbrush, and other native flora.
Perfectly situated, the Saltbrush Guest House is close to scenic Highway 12, designated one of the country’s All American Roads. Traveling from west to east, it passes through Red Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and over Boulder Mountain to conclude near the entrance to Capitol Reef National Park. The Petrified Forest State Park is less than five miles away from Saltbrush, as is the Grand Staircase Escalante Visitor Center. If you want a change from the Monument’s wind and water-sculpted landscape, take Old Escalante Road to the Dixie National Forest and the top of Boulder Mountain, which is just 13 miles away. You will be greeted by pine forest, cool air, and small lakes waiting for your fly rod.
Remember we are not the first occupants of this special place. We were preceded by the Fremont, who hunted and gathered in the Escalante Valley, and the ancestral Pueblo people, who farmed corn, beans, and squash in the canyons. Pottery shards, stone tools, and debitage left from tool making must be left where you find it.
