My family had such a relaxing 3 day stay. The drive up there is so pretty, the canyon is beautiful! The covered patio with the hot tube was nice. The beds and pillows were super comfortable. The cabin was clean and the inside aesthetics of the cabin are pretty. We went a couple days before Christmas and the cute Christmas tree they had set up was a really nice touch. You can hear the stream up to the cabin and the walk down the trail to the stream was so beautiful. The owner and his assistants stayed in contact with us the whole stay to make sure we needed anything and were very personable.
Super quiet with a beautiful drive through the canyon. The location is perfect if you want to go to either loveland or estes park. Very easy to navigate and perfect for us and our dogs. The host was very attentive and easy to contact.
We really enjoyed our staycation in the mountains.
There was a mishap with the hot tub and it didn’t work. Was to get a discount on the stay, we’ll see. It was finally ready for use the night before we left. The location is great and easy to get to where we wanted to be.
The cabin is clean and has everything you need. The hot tub is new since our last visit. There is no cell service, but that's to be expected due to the location in canyon. The river is beautiful, we saw bighorn sheep twice while driving to town. We like being between Estes Park and Loveland so we visit both. Having the garage is nice but we didn't use it.
Finding a nice cabin that allows pets is the best thing ever, our dog loves to travel with us.
Comfy bed and spacious kitchen for cooking at home. Great views of the canyon from the porch or hot tub. The river easily covers the sound of the little bit of traffic from the nearby road. The property has limited grassy space for pets, but there are several small parks in the vicinity … or drive 15-20 min to the great off leash dog park in Estes. Great hike at North Fork trailhead - Dunraven trail near Glenhaven - which is pet friendly and perfect for all ability levels. River Fork club across the street has live music and limited but decent food/beer/liquor selection on Fridays and Saturdays - open later than most places in Estes.

Great cabin, stocked with things you need for bath and kitchen. Had to wash the sheets and blankets before sleeping in them due to the overwhelming smell of dogs but other than that it was good. Saw a mama bear and a baby bear outside of the master bedroom! Apparently there’s an apple tree outside the window and The mama climbed it!
The hot tub was nice. You can hear the highway but it was bothersome as the sound blended in with the river sound!
Darin was responsive and his handyman was awesome!

This little house in the mountains more than exceeded our expectations. Clean, quiet and being outside of the Estes Park/RMNP hustle is perfect. Having the Big Thompson river in the front yard if a huge plus. The Big T has some great trout fishing!
The only negative we found was the lawn was overgrown…. It a deal breaker at all! With the amount of rain that area has seen we were not at all surprised… still it was a “mountain” lawn.
If your looking for a great little cabin in the Estes Park are… this is a good one to consider.
My wife and I already are planning our next trip.
The house was very nice and easy to find. It rained the whole time we were there so we were grateful we were so close to Loveland as the weather there was better. Therefore we golfed 5 days there rather than in Estes which we had originally planned to do. It’s nice being so close to the river, but be aware there is a good deal of traffic noise from Hwy 34 which runs in front of the cabin.
The lack of a dining room table meant we ate our meals off a provided card table and chairs. But since we spent so much time indoors due to the weather, a dining table would have been nice.
If you’re looking for a nice place to stay between Estes and Loveland, this would be a good choice.
We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is located fairly close to the busy road, but you can’t hear it because of the river. The view from the hot tub and porch is unbeatable- with the Mountains and the sunset in view are priceless.
A little disappointment came from the cleanliness- there were a rather large amount of chip crumbs and bread crumbs on the comforter and on the ground beside the bed making me think it wasn’t thoroughly cleaned and was a little disturbing. There was also dog hair that was everywhere- floors, couches, beds, but dogs are allowed. So that’s expected as well.
I’ve seen comments about the area being overgrown- yes. This is true. It’s a mountain cabin. So it’s what I’d expect. But it’s definitely not groomed/manicured as is pictured- so that’s the only issue to note there.
The washer went out while we were there and that was a huge inconvenience since we had a 1 and 2 year old that needed clothes washed. But Darin got it replaced while we were there and refunded some money. Great customer service!!
My husband and I had a nice stay. Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality. Your cabin accommodations were nice and roomy; however, it is in serious need of cleaning and outdoor maintenance. The VRBO picttures reflect a beautiful cabin, nicely furnished. The kitchen was very well stocked and it was fun preparing our meals. The deck was outstanding. We loved sitting outdoors and listening to the river. The fire table didn't work or maybe we just required directions. We enjoyed having the place the place to ourselves. The neighbors certainly respected our privacy as we did theirs. The bed was comfortable and the towels were soft and fluffy. Now for the difficult part. The cleaning crew did not conduct a thorough cleaning. The house was full of cobwebs, dust, and grime. The carpets had numerous stains that should be immediately addressed. I don't consider myself picky, but when my husband starts pointing out the dirt, I realize it must be pretty bad. He isn't a detail person and if it caught his eye, it is bad. The grounds were in terrible shape. Weeds are overtaking the yard and growing in the driveway cracks. There was no place for my dog to pee. The grounds need some serious love. It is obvious the yard has not been tended to. There a wasp nest above the garage that was built upon the previous one.
At most this is a 3 star place. I trust you will make improvements as previous reviews have shown. Your place is optimally located between Loveland and Estes Park. The condition of your cabin is in serious need of your attention.
We had a nice stay at this cabin! The location is perfect, nestled between Loveland and Estes Park, making it easy to explore both areas. The cabin itself is peaceful and serene, with the soothing sound of a stream nearby that added to the overall tranquility. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a cozy and quiet escape.
Great place for a cozy and relaxing getaway for my spouse and I. Close to Estes Park for day trips and great for morning and evening R&R. Can hear the river stream while sitting on the porch by the table fireplace and in the jacuzzi. Enjoyed this stay very much and would come back.
We really enjoyed our long weekend at Big Thompson Cabin. It was clean, updated, and very cozy. Halfway up the canyon, which makes it easy to get up to Estes (but not pay Estes prices), while also being about to get to Loveland relatively quickly. Would definitely stay here again! 5 stars!
