Private Estate on Pink Sand Beach w/ 2 Pools, Home Theater, Kayaks, PBoards

Set on a two-mile-long powdery pink-sand beach overlooking the turquoise waters of the Atlantic, Kataluma House is a grand 6-bedroom, 6½-bath beachfront estate on Double Bay. Kataluma is our family’s dream vacation home. We are delighted to share it with guests who will care for it as we do.

This secluded 5000 sf home has two levels of living space. The upper floor features a vast open-plan great room with 20 feet of sliding glass doors for stunning beach and ocean views. At night, this room becomes a home theater with surround-sound, CD/DVD player, and 10’ movie screen with film library. The lower floor of Kataluma features a second family room, a recreation room with 8-foot slate pool table and flat-screen satellite TV.

Outside, luxuriate in our new oceanfront infinity pool, or in our backyard pool on the west side of the house. (There is a pool heat fee of $500 per week if you would like the pool heated.)

Lounge in our shady beachside tiki hut. Explore our offshore islands and reefs with our kayaks, stand-up paddle board, and snorkel gear. Kataluma has excellent snorkeling on the beautiful coral reefs right off the beach in front of the house. Grill and enjoy your day's catch on a variety of oceanfront and poolside patios and decks.

The upper level of Kataluma has four bedroom suites (all with king size beds). Each has its own name and design theme (Hibiscus, Gecko, Lotus, Frangipani) hand-carved on the wooden transom over the door. The doors are recessed into hallways to give private entry off the main living areas. Each bedroom has its own private bath, each with a unique design and style.

The lower level of Kataluma features a new downstairs master suite with a king bed and private bathroom. The second downstairs bedroom is a bunk room that sleeps up to 6 and has a dedicated bathroom. It is furnished with a full-on-full bunk bed and two standard-width bunk bed sets.

The lower level of Kataluma also features a second living room with a slate pool table with pub table, pub stools and spectator chairs for pool playing enthusiasts.

Kataluma’s gourmet kitchen will satisfy the most demanding chef. A 15-foot center island gives plenty of space for preparing your in-home meals. Or have our cook do it for you!

The stainless steel Bosch appliances include a glass cook top with downward draft ventilation, wall oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher to facilitate the needs of guests, chefs and staff.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the accoutrements needed to prepare your culinary delights including Boos board, blender, toaster, coffee grinder, coffee-maker, and a selection of spices and seasonings. Just outside the kitchen area is a large built-in Jenn-Aire gas cooking grill for your barbecue and grilling selections.

If you wish to dine outside, there is a convenient deck situated just outside the kitchen’s sliding glass doors, so that you can enjoy views of the west swimming pool, garden area, the sprawling coconut forest and spectacular sunsets. Adjacent to the ocean side pool, there is an outdoor dining table.

50th Wedding Anniversary celebration with family
First time to Kataluma. Vacationed with our son, daughter & their families. What a spectacular week! . The house was beautiful, lots of room. The infinity pool was our hang out spot for the week, awesome ocean views! Flew into GHB, rented cars from Kean Stubbs. With the house located in the central part of the island it's easier and less of a drive to get to sights in the north and the south. The Atlantic ocean provided a beautiful view and crashing waves. It was a little rough with the rocks in front of the house, but that didn't stop us from kayaking! Played lots of pool in the evenings. Ten minutes away was 10 Bay Beach which was great for snorkeling. Crystal clear water and all shades of blue. Did a full day boat excursion with Captain Rob, lots of awesome adventures!! Took a day & went north to Harbour Island for horseback riding, stopped at Queen's Bath & Glass Window Bridge. If you've never been to Eleuthera before, be prepared for beach roads that will hold your attention while driving, plus remembering to drive on the left side of the road. Before the trip, Matthew Simon was very helpful and responsive. Property management & staff were very friendly, and quick to respond during our stay. We hired Andrew Demeritte to cook dinner a couple of nights. Having never done that before, we were extremely pleased with how it turned out! Would highly recommend this rental lots of space, very comfortable & relaxing!

50th birthday bash!!!
We had a wonderful stay at Kataluma!!! There were 8 adults and the main living area more than accommodated all 8 of us cooking, cleaning or just hanging out!!!! We loved the theater system and used it several evenings while winding down… the heated pool was awesome and we really enjoyed the beach.. the surf was surprisingly calm for this time of year.. we had fish brought and filleted at the house one evening and another evening we had Jeremy Lewis in one evening to prepare a meal.. all fresh, all delicious!! We also went on a private boat excursion with “exotic Excursions” with Sheldon.. he was very accommodating… All in all Kataluma was amazing, we would definitely recommend a stay at this house..

Great place for seclusion and a great view
We have stayed in a number of places across the Caribbean. This is one of the best. If you like peace, quiet and being away from it all this is your spot. The pictures do not justify the views. The property is well kept and the house was clean. Keep in mind it sits facing the ocean and takes a beating year round. The normal ocean wear was present, but Martin manages to stay ahead of it. The ocean facing infinity edge pool is wonderful, and the pool behind the house on the land side is a quite oasis. The tiki hut is a nice step off to the beach, with the toys listed. It was rough from the Atlantic side the week we stayed, but we did get in one snorkel on the reefs in front of the house, and paddled to nearest Cay several times (do this at low tide to access the beach - requires you to navigate around some coral heads). Inside the open plan for dining and living is great. We had a crew of 8 and it was never crowded. The kitchen will have everything you need, and the appliances are all in good shape. Downstairs, the bunkroom is great for kids / teens and the other BR with a King is large and nice. No complaints on bedding, everyone slept well. Internet was good and the few times some of us had to work, it was not an issue (did have to be reset a time or two). Violet comes twice a week for a freshen up and quick clean - much appreciated. Lastly, I would recommend having a cook come at least once during the week. We had Krystal Knowles cook for us one night and it was wonderful, and less than a meal for all of us at a restaurant. Great place, great set up, good communication and a good value for the price.

Luxurious Kataluma Vacation
Our whole family had a wonderful time at Kataluma and thought the house was gorgeous. The setting and the beauty of the ocean were amazing and much appreciated by all of us Midwesterners. The kitchen had all the utensils you would need and the house was well equipped with kayaks, floaties for the pool, bicycles and life jackets. The beach was great for shelling and wading. While we were there, the wind was quite strong, which made kayaking difficult. Our one disappointment was that the pool heater went out while we were there, but has since been replaced, so should be in good shape for future use. The children loved watching movies on the big screen every evening and enjoyed rediscovering some of the old Star Trek and adventure movies. The pool table was also a big hit and provided evening entertainment for many. We had Manasseh Cartwright come to cook for us twice. We really enjoyed the food and the lively conversation with him, Eva and Sammy. We took a couple of trips to explore the island. We spent some time at Ten Bay Beach on the Caribbean side of the island, which was beautiful and more conducive for wading than the Atlantic side. Some in our group took a Fishbone tour and enjoyed snorkeling and even saw a couple of dolphins that the boat followed for awhile. Others drove to the lighthouse beach, which was an experience to say the least. It was gorgeous when we got there, but the road there was quite a challenge. A trip to the Ocean Hole and the Boiling Cave were fun for the children, too. We sampled some of the local restaurants, which were all enjoyable. (Tippy's, The Buccaneer, Bouganvillea, Mate and Jenny's Pizza) It was a lovely family vacation. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful, especially all of the people involved with the rental - Matt, Anne, Martin, Violet, Eva. We thank you all for a vacation we will remember for a long time to come.

Loved the home, very private...did not care for Eleuthera, though. House 5 stars, island 3 stars
Kataluma is well-appointed and has everything one would need for a perfect, relaxing vacation. Comfy beds, clean, very nice bathrooms throughout. Both pools very clean and clear. Kitchen well-equipped, even with a Crock-Pot. The beach is accessible with some wooden steps that lead from the tiki hut area out back but be careful as there are no hand rails. The house has a beautiful view of the Atlantic side of Eleuthera. Be aware, though, that the Atlantic side is somewhat rough water and often high winds. The Caribbean on the other side of the island is calmer and very beautiful, and a short drive. Kataluma has a pool table, games, DVDs, Direct TV, and plenty to keep a person occupied if they want to come inside to get away from the No-see-um bugs (which show up when the wind is calm). While Kataluma is a wonderful getaway in itself, the eight of us (ranging in ages of 44 - 70) did not particularly enjoy the island. If you are looking for privacy and a remote location, however, this is for you. We found that SCUBA diving was difficult as there were not very many reputable dive shops and those that did call us back wanted to charge us extra for us bringing our own gear and not using theirs! In addition, we would highly recommend using a provision service to have your groceries and spirits delivered to the house. Rental cars on the island are shaky at best and you definitely need one to get around as nothing is within walking or bicycling distance. The owners leave bicycles, kayaks, snorkel gear, and flotation devices for guests and those are very helpful to pass the time. Again, the home itself is a dream, but beware...if you are expecting a vacation with lots of adventures and excursions, Eleuthera is probably not for you. 5 stars for the house itself, probably 3 stars for the island. If you want a wonderful dinner meal, try "1648" or "Tippys". Lots of small hole-in-the-wall establishments along the roads, perfect for a quick rum punch but not sure the food would be good. Stick to the more "reviewed" restaurants for good food and service. This house is a good hour drive from the North Eleuthera Airport, which is where most commercial flights arrive and depart so keep that in mind when looking at the location. Taxi service is either non-existent to this location or so extremely priced that you must get a rental car to get around, even to the local stores. The housekeepers, gardener, and property manager were all great people.

We had a great time! The house was beautiful and had everything that you would need.
Awesome! The house was beautiful and the beaches are magnificent. Our group ranged in age from 10-75 and everybody had a blast. Everyone involved from the planning (Matt and Tara) to arrival (Anne) were wonderful. The only negative was that Diet Coke was hard to find on the island!

60th Anniversary Trip to Eleuthera
We would all like to thank you for allowing us the pleasure of staying at the incomparable villa called Kataluma. This is an excellent property for large groups. With six bedrooms and 6 1/2 baths it was perfect for the twelve of us. The Atlantic was close and the pools were right there and well maintained. The beach is gorgeous. No one is on it but you and your party. We had a wonderful day at lighthouse beach even though Steve didn't appreciate us taking the suburbans on the rough road getting there. Pauline and Maxine fixed us a delicious Bahamian dinner one night and came back another time and prepared breakfast. We spent another wonderful day on Savanna Sound with Fishbone Tours. Julius (Capt. Bubba) and Ken were very knowledgeable of the sea life and surrounding area. We were shown many celebrity's homes on a boat ride around Windermere Island. They even fixed conch salad and burgers for us on the beach. Our adventuresome grandsons took kayaks out and landed on the two outer islands. One afternoon a dolphin swam within 15 feet of us while we were cooling off in the Atlantic. The celebration of Sharon's and Larry's 60th anniversary was with dinner on the deck at the 1648 Bar and Grill. We got a huge tureen of rum punch before dinner. The punch wasn't very good but it disappeared. We picked up some Stubbs BBQ for our last night's dinner. Everyone wants to stay another week. Thank you all for a wonderful experience. We have all felt the love of Eleuthera. Now the other stuff that would have been nice to have: Umbrellas for the lounges on the deck, half a dozen or so beach chairs would have been great to take to the beach, the infinity pool never did work, and the younger of the group were disappointed that the exterior speakers didn't work. This should not detract from the fact that we could not have found a nicer, decently maintained property for our large group. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Larry and Sharon 8/6-13/16
