Booked this hotel as part of our Rhodope mountain trip. Would not recommend. The hotel is in the middle of an uncharming village, with lots of falling apart barns and houses, which l believe represent the real village life as opposed to nearby places like Shiroka Laka, which seems more ‘tourist-ready’ (and probably accommodates the romantic tourist Orpheus idea better…). GBP 44 for one night is simply a rip off for this place, no matter how you look at it. The bathroom looks nice and new, but then the shower is clogged and doesn't drain. You end up almost taking a bath… Breakfast is disappointingly basic and of the poorest quality. Forget about tasting the local selection of high quality products (homemade jam, e.g., which old ladies are selling everywhere), yoghurt or fresh eggs. Instead, you get the cheapest they could possibly find. We met a Scotsman who was bringing his own homemade jam for breakfast… The most annoying thing is when you spot the receptionist having his own tasty breakfast hidden behind the counter, consisting of toast bread (we didn’t get toast, just plain bread) with sausage. He also does not speak any English at all. While I am fully supportive of creating employment opportunities for the local population, some training to communicate in the most basic English should be expected when targeting international customers and being at the reception of a hotel. Finally, you better bring your own internet network as WIFI only reaches the ground floor.
