Historic Mount Vernon House. Red Rocks Amphitheater. Ski Slopes, Golden, Colorado

Greetings and thank you for looking into the Historic, Mount Vernon House. As the name shows this home is comfortably nestled in Colorado’s Mount Vernon Canyon, 20 minutes from downtown Denver and 45 minutes from Denver international Airport. The property can be available for events such as weddings or reunions, please inquire!!
Location:
The Home is surrounded by a Jefferson County Open Space Park known as Mathews/Winters Park. So, there are many hiking trails within an extremely short walk, and many more within a short drive. You can walk to a local brewery and restaurant. Five minutes to Colorado Mills Mall. Thunder Valley motocross track is 2 miles away. The Home is 2 miles away from Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which there is a direct hiking trail. It is also about 2.5 miles from Bandimere Speedway, a NHRA dragstrip. The home is 45 minutes drive away from Loveland ski area, so if you are going skiing and are familiar with the area, you are close to many ski areas! It is very close to Golden which has many niche shopping areas and of course Coors Brewery. On the other end is the quite little town of Morrison which has many unique opportunities for restaurants and shopping. With all above mentioned you have a total secluded feel and still have many amenities nearby. The perfect access to major highways, means at times , in the summer, you may hear the low rumble of some traffic.
House:
The home is on the National Historic Register, which makes it a real treat to stay in. It was built in 1860. It is built from local quarried stones. So yes, it is old, it but has many modern upgrades such as indoor plumbing, electricity, TVs, internet, appliances and a/c heat. It still retains much of the old feel, like slopping floors, steep stairway, wood floors and two feet thick walls. The walls make the house cool in the winter, but not freezing, just bring a sweater and slippers. The home does have AC, but , and doesn’t need it, once the sunsets a delightful cool breeze always comes down the valley and cools everything down. That makes a perfect night for BBQing and being by the fire pits. We also have the Mount Vernon Creek running directly in the front yard. There is a totally private deck on the back of the home, perfect for sunbathing or yoga. The yard is green grass with plenty of flower beds around. There is also plenty of wildlife around, depending on the season, mule deer are around all year, elk can be seen in the fall and spring and on occasion bobcats, rattlesnakes, wild turkeys, mountain lions, bears, skunks, foxes, Red tail hawks and coyotes. So be prepared for nature if the mood is right! Do not think this is a modern exclusive villa. Its a fun old, rustic house.
Accommodations:
The house can sleep 10 comfortably. 3 main bedrooms and one room that can sleep kids or adults. All the bedrooms are upstairs as they were in the old days. Upstairs there are 2 bathrooms. One, in the master bedroom has a shower, toilet and newer heavy-duty washer/dryer, the other is in the hallway between the bedrooms, it has a toilet and a sink.
The Main level has a large living room, a large fold out couch is comfortable for sleeping. A large office type or gaming area, there is an air mattress, a bathroom with a bath tub and a kitchen. The kitchen has granite counters, a dishwasher and a table to sit 5, plus a trash compactor, a 5 burner gas stove top, a microwave and a convection oven.
PLEASE NOTE : The home is old and so is the plumbing ! If you and I don't want a mess PLEASE do not flush feminine products ! PLEASE ALSO, no grease or oil in the drains ! Also any larger food stuff should go in the trash and small food from rinsing dishes is fine for the disposal. No one wants extra plumbing charges.
PLEASE NOTE: there is a low noise limit at 9PM we can still converse but my neighbors are older and they have requested 9PM. It seems to echo over to their house. This home is so outstanding , it’s only reserved for special people!

Our stay at the Mount Vernon Ranch
Our family liked the homey atmosphere, the personal touches of the house, being out near Red Rock and the hiking nearby. We even saw deer one early evening eating grass near the house. This home and the surroundings gave us many great memories which we will cherish. Thank you Dennis!

Flawless stay
We had a fantastic weekend at this property. Initially I booked it thinking I would stay with my 17 and 20 year old daughters and their boyfriends and use the house as a base to go to RMNP and Golden; but two days before our reservation started my 17 year old was diagnosed with leukemia. So it ended up being a fundamentally different trip and group of people (my other daughter and her boyfriend still came but we were joined by friends). It was a wonderful retreat in a difficult time, and the owner was great when I asked to extend the stay. Definitely, definitely recommend.

Hardy at Red Rocks
We are a group of four couples of longtime friends who came to see a concert at Red Rocks. We were only there for 2 nights, but had a great time. The house was easy to get to from the airport and was close to Morrison and Golden. The house is VERY interesting with a lot of history. Due to the time of year, and age of the house,(Halloween) we had a bit of fun with each other over the prospect of the house being haunted, however we never experienced anything to support that. The house was well stocked with what we needed for this quick trip. Dennis was great and we had a wonderful time.

The Big Chill in Red Rocks
Our good friend's daughter was getting married in Colorado Springs, so a group of our high school friends went on a road trip. Before the wedding, we planned a concert at Red Rocks and found this historical house that could fit us all. We had a blast! The house is situated in a State Park and the trailhead to the Red Rocks hike was very close. This was a great hike, but not a recommended walk to the concert. The property is not for folks who like modern but is eclectic and intriguing for those who love historic homes. Be aware there are steep steps to the upstairs and some strange steps between rooms along with some angels in the ceilings of some of the bedrooms that could be challenging for people with limited mobility. The other challenge in this house is the bathroom situation. One is off the master, the other full bath is downstairs off the kitchen and the half bath is upstairs in the hall but has a curtain instead of a door. So this could be problematic for some groups. This did not hinder our stay at all but I thought it was good information to be aware of. Overall, we loved the space to eat, drink, laugh, dance, and catch up with old friends. The proximity to Red Rocks was amazing (about 2 miles down the road) but not walkable. The front porch and yard were great outside spaces to hang out as well. The quirks of the old house were welcomed and appreciated and we loved our time there.

Wedding ceremony
This is such a wonderful place to stay! Whether you’re doing a weekend get away, or hosting an event, you’re sure to have a wonderful relaxing time! We had a intimate wedding ceremony here and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We had asked if they were able to mow the grass before the ceremony, and Dennis went out of his way to make sure that was done in time for us to have the ceremony. Check in, and check out were super easy. The house had all the essentials needed for a nice relaxing stay. It is a very antique and neat place to stay. Definitely give it a try if you’re looking in the area. Thank you!!

Unique and memorable adventure
This historic home is exactly as described, down to the large list of amenities, sloping floors and enjoyable fire pit, with a nice breeze flowing thru the property. Fun filled with antiques and modern upgrades. Beds and living room are quite comfortable. It’s a nice private location with easy access to Denver, Golden, Red Rocks (our 1st) and many hiking trails. We also ventured out to Nederlands, Boulder and Mount Blue Sky. Options to chill after daily hiking adventures included the private deck, porch or by the fire pit. Denny was at the ready, if needed, but the set-up makes it easy to be self-sufficient. It’s so nice to not have to travel with basic items or have to immediately run to the store for paper goods. It’s the little things that make you feel welcomed, including a cozy blanket. Good food, drinks and peeps at nearby Vice Kitchen (and a brewery in same plaza we did not try) Truly enjoyed our stay!

Amazing home away from home!
Myself, husband, and 1 year old son had a mini-family reunion to celebrate some birthdays with his brother and sister-in-law, aunts and uncle this past week. There was plenty of room for all of us, a great kitchen for meals, and wonderful common space to hang out. The grounds are lovely, nestled inside one of JeffCo’s many parks. The location is convenient to access and close to so many things. The owner, Dennis, was super responsive the whole time we were there and everything we needed was available, including laundry, a pack n play and high chair for our son, and lots of hot water for all the showers. We even had a picnic dinner in the gorgeous patio garden once all the snow melted. This location is perfect for us and we will certainly be staying here again the next time we’re in town (which is often!) Thank you, Dennis, for being such a warm and generous host. We can’t wait to stay with you again!

A little creepy
We arrived after dark. It was creepy driving up with a weird dummy along the road. Inside the house not a single light was left on in greeting and the furnace was set at 55. If felt very unwelcome and made it creepier than it actually was. The house was very clean but we felt uncomfortable rest of the trip based on how it started.
