Using the regular coffeemaker or Keurig, start your morning with a cup of joe on the sun porch. Overlooking the water, watch the pelicans, ducks, herons or sea gulls while enjoying the pleasant breeze coming from the Core Sound. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins playing or the occasional sea turtle.
Enjoy yoga on the sun deck or at the water’s edge (mats provided!) or sit on the dock and watch the sunrise.
Spend your afternoon on the sound, floating in the water, swimming, or using the kayaks provided. The kids will delight in being able to fish right off the dock, use a cast net or try their luck with crab pots (we have provided a couple). Catch a ride on the ferry or paddle on the kayak to Core Banks and enjoy the (arguably) best beaches on the NC coast. If you bring your own boat you can ride to the Beaufort waterfront for a dockside lunch. If you have your own 4-wheel drive vehicle you can ferry it across to Core Banks and ride to Cape Lookout lighthouse - if not, you can rent a Kubota in Davis or catch a ferry from Harker's Island to the lighthouse.
After memorable hours on the water, cook out on the outdoor gas grill, admiring the view with a drink in hand until dinner is ready. Or stay inside and whip up a fabulous feast in the fully equipped kitchen! During the meal preparations, your kids can watch their favorite shows on one of the 3 TVs.
Wrap up the day by swinging on the porch swing or riding the cruiser bikes around Davis and exploring. Watch the sunset from the West porch before settling in on the comfy furniture on the screen porch or heading inside to play some of the many games or enjoying quality time. The stargazing won’t disappoint anytime of year!
In the fall and winter, access to duck hunting doesn’t get any more convenient. Either grab the ferry or tie your boat off to the dock!
The blankets on the screened porch and the serene setting are perfect for a girls weekend too!
Enjoy a family movie night on the 4K Smart TV with cable, streaming capabilities, and a DVD player. Choose between a Netflix film or one of the 100 assorted DVDs provided!
People often ask, "How close is the nearest beach? How close is the ocean?" Sound Escape is at the water's edge (of Core Sound). If you look from the porch, across Core Sound you can see Core Banks. Core Banks has Core Sound on the west side and the Atlantic Ocean on the east side. Core Banks is a very narrow section of the Outer Banks. You can walk from one side to the other in less than 5 minutes. There are miles and miles of some of the most beautiful beaches the East Coast has to offer. You can kayak across, take a boat or ride the ferry across Core Sound to get to 'the beach'.
Yes, you can swim right of the dock! It is shallow for a good distance. You can swim and walk around in Core Sound. (We recommend water shoes for the random oyster shell you might encounter, but it is a sandy bottom with occasional patches of grasses.
Yes, you can bring a boat. Oyster Creek is the closest boat ramp to launch a boat.
-- THE LOCATION --
Core Sound and Down East are hidden treasures. Core Sound is south of Pamlico sound and north of Bogue sound. This region of North Carolina is blessed with a rich history that links them to the water. If you can explore the area by kayaking the sound and some of the creeks off of it, you will experience a treasure.
Downtown Beaufort, NC has been called the last true southern town left. It is just 12 miles away, where you can discover the town's parks, museums, and other tourist attractions or stroll down Front Street! While you may decide to never leave the screened porch, if you do choose to venture out, Beaufort offers a variety of activities and great local seafood, and more.
A visit to Shackleford Banks to see the wild ponies is a bit magical. If you have more members of your group needing more space, The Ferry House is just 2 doors down the sound and sleeps 11! https://www.vrbo.com/3638557?webview=ios&unitId=4212702
