This two-bedroom, one bath home is located on 6 acres; one mile up a gravel private road in the middle of the National Forest (very close to Jewel Cave Monument). I built this home 22 years ago and raised my now adult children there. We rode 4 wheelers and had plenty of fun in the hills, loads of great memories. Awesome family location and the reviews state as much. *** We open our windows at night for the cool air which no matter how hot the day gets the overnight temps will drop down into 60's and 50's. I have ceiling fans in all rooms, and fans for the windows if you choose. I like to live with my surrounding and enjoy the temp fluctuation. And we don't have humidity or pollution. During the warmer months I place two stand alone air conditioner units. One in living room the other in master bedroom (south facing windows).
While staying at my home you will see deer, birds and rabbits daily and on occasion elk and wild turkey; the buffalo's will be on our road probably 1 day out of 7 days of stay. You will hear coyotes at night and elk squeal during the rut. There are no bears in the Black Hills nor are there poisonous snakes or raccoons on my property (the home is at almost at 6000 feet elevation).During your stay the buffalo may block the cattleguard as they like to lick it lol. You may have to wait or drive through the herd while they take over the road and shoulders. It is an excellent opportunity to take pictures up-close of these magnificent animals from your vehicle (roll down your window) DON'T GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE, please :)
There is a metal fire pit (north yard) for and inground fire pit on the south yard, 2 hammocks, barbeque (both gas and charcoal), fishing poles, tackle box, board games, Wi-Fi, Netflix. If your family are explorers, you may take back roads to Wyoming, Northern Hills or Crazy Horse. I also supply maps and brochures of the National Forest roads and attractions in the area.
This property is located 8 miles from Custer State Park, 20 miles to Mt. Rushmore and 7 miles from Crazy Horse. No road noise only animal noise on full moons!
I am retired and live in the separate apt with different entrance than the unit. If you want to unplug from civilization this is the location.
Hunters, this home is north of HWY 16 in-between Custer, SD and Newcastle, WY next to Hell Canyon.
I supply towels, sheets, tooth brushes and tooth paste (if you forget), toilet paper, paper towels along with extra blankets and pillows. There is free Wi-Fi along with Netflix on the 50" flat screen, board games and of course the hammocks (use at your own risk). Or just sit on the deck in the evenings a watch the sun set behind the hill. The stars from the deck at night are beautiful. The only light noise is the front porch light which can be shut off.
Come play, hunt, hike, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the Black Hills!
Thank you,
Kaileen
