The Stables is a detached, Grade II listed building, and until 2001 was the stables to Pitcarlie Estate, which dates back to 1312. It also once formed part of the Barony of Abernethy. In the 18th century, Pitcairlie was acquired by Colonel James Cathcart, of Carbiston, and around 1730 the house underwent a major programme of construction, creating a classically early Georgian country residence. The family retained the estate until the mid-1960s and had strong connections with the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St Andrews - hence the “Cathcart Bunker” on the Old Course.
It has now been transformed into a beautiful holiday home and maintains some of the original features of the old building. The floors are Canadian maple wood sourced from an old school gym, and the entrance hall has original flagstones from the stables. The Stables has been thoughtfully furnished to provide everything you could wish for; the master bedroom has a separate dressing room and an en-suite bathroom with a large corner bath, so be sure to remember your bubblebath, and in the evening sink deep beneath the bubbles and let all your troubles flow away.
