"Arriving at 8pm from the airport we discovered - as had four other guests booked via various platforms - that the 'hotel' had to send us a QR code in order that we could check in for a room we had paid well in advance. Much messaging of the 'hotel' they kept assuring us that the guard knew we were coming, guard kept saying (correctly) that we needed a QR code.
