Great cottage in a great location
My husband and I spent a weekend at this property with our puppy. We had a great stay! Sophie was very responsive with messages and had a cake waiting on check-in. The hosts were also helpful with tips on what to do, where to eat - which we very much appreciated. The cottage is in great condition and has all the necessary amenities. It’s a great location to explore the national trust properties close by and close to the beautiful Bedgebury forests. Highly recommended!
One thing to mention is that, it isn’t obvious from the listing that the cottage is just off the main house where the hosts live. The cottage has a separate entrance, but the garden is part of the main garden without a fence which is not ideal if you want to let your dog out without a lead as there are hens / chickens free in the garden. It didn’t make much of a difference to us.

Beautiful short break in East Sussex
We had a lovely break for a couple of days staying at the property. The host, Sophie, and her family made us very welcome and baked us a cake on arrival (which was delicious). The barn was very comfortable with everything we needed, and the gardens very beautiful. The location is great - we visited Rye, Camber and Bodiam Castle, and the local village pub does great food. All and all a memorable stay.

Property was exactly as described. Extremely clean and inviting.
Lovely patio area outside to use, which we did, as the weather so hot. Owners very nice and helpful. Couldn’t fault anything and would certainly return.

A cosy retreat tucked away in the Kent countryside
Freshwater Barn is a delightful cottage hidden away in a large garden. Our hostess Sophie and her menagerie welcomed us into their home with a delicious home made cake! The cottage was well appointed, clean, tidy, and very well equipped with everything we needed and more. Our children especially enjoyed playing with the numerous pets - especially Toffee the dog and Minou the laid back cat! It was our great escape to the country for the bank holiday weekend.

Beautiful location in the middle of Kent. Very nice owner
Beautiful and well equipped. Sophie, it was such a relaxing week we spent at Freshwater Barn, thanks for everything.
What a lovely cake we were expected by, when arriving at your house.
Perfect stay not far away from everything.
Only the mattress of the sofabed is not really comfortable.
We recommend this place for everyone,
who wants to explore Kent.

A lovely stay in a lovely cottage!
A great cottage for couples, with a beautiful bedroom and ensuite facilities and a spacious lounge/dining area. Lovely to be welcomed with a home-baked cake, thank you! The internet and parking facilities were a little basic but we were always warm and comfortable, and the cottage and garden were in a quiet location, perfect for visiting the many NT and EH attractions nearby.

Lovely property in ideal location.
This is a lovely property in a quiet but not isolated location. Clean and well equipped - super en suite shower room & cosy bedroom and a very spacious kitchen, sitting, dining area.. A very pleasant private patio (where I enjoyed my breakfast in the sun on all but one morning) with view over the garden. For us this cottage is in an ideal location as there are numerous NT properties in striking distance.& the coast isn't far away either. . Added bonus; Sophie's delicious cake and the company of a lovely cat. Also, the Bull pub with friendly staff & great food is in walking distance.. A home from home where we hope to holiday again..

Lovely well-equipped cottage for two with charming and helpful host - highly recommended!
Although we visited just after the snows, we had a lovely time exploring East Sussex and Kent for which this is a great location. Sophie's cottage is lovely , warm and well-equipped, the bed gorgeously comfortable and the shower fantastic! The flowers and freshly made cake were very much enjoyed! The outside area will be lovely in the sun at a different time of year - fortunately we had planned on exploring..
As the owners of a well behaved but chicken-curious terrier, the only thing which would have made things a little more relaxed would have been partitioning off the outside area from the garden - perhaps by a waist-high picket fence or something, so that we could have let the mut out to nose around without him always having to be taken on a lead - but hey.. I need the exercise.. All in all a lovely stay and we would definitely come again, thanks Sophie!

Peaceful and relaxing
The cottage is small but fully loaded and the garden and is excellent,
Location wise the property is just outside the village of Benenden on a not to busy road.
The property also benefits from direct access to a public foot path at the rear ideal for dogs.
The owner is very friendly and helpful
Downside internet and mobile signal are weak

Super location to go for gardens and golfing
We had a wonderful quiet, relaxing holiday fortnight in Sophie´s cosy cottage and enjoyed homemade cakes, fresh beans and beetroot direct out of the garden, lovely walks right from our little home into the fields and to Benenden´s community store, the local pub and church- a perfect location to discover a number of wonderful gardens and golfcourses just within a 20minutes drive, also the beautiful coastline which is not far away. We loved the chickens, friendly dogs and cat in "our" garden near our private terrace. We will always love to come again! Hella and Ulli

Tranquil, beautiful cottage and setting
The cottage at Freshwater Barn is in such a beautiful location, peaceful and tranquil. The location gave us the opportunity to explore much of the Kent and East Sussex area, and the local pub including the food was second to none. The cottage is in such a lovely location, beautiful inside and well equipped. Our host, Sophie and her family, were so welcoming and available to answer any questions and be at hand if we needed anything. Will definitely be going back, and would highly recommend to anyone !!!
