Woodmoor House, a beautifully appointed farmhouse from 1865 in the Historic District of the hamlet of Cragsmoor, sits atop a bluff nearly 2000 feet above sea level with stunning views of Hudson Valley, just minutes from Sam’s Point Preserve on Shawangunk Ridge and nature trails. A short trip from NYC, you will find plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts: hiking, biking, cross country skiing, rock climbing, golf and swimming holes. And for those who prefer indoor activity: a haven for thrifting and antiquing.
This sprawling house has been renovated to include the beauty and charm of its original design of open family living, and is ready to accommodate big groups to settle in and relax. Have your coffee in the morning sun on the southern patio, then take a stroll through the gorgeous Cragsmoor Historic District to admire all the beautiful homes that make this mountaintop hamlet so unique.
Sitting on a bit over an acre, the house has six bedrooms; five with queen beds and one with bunk beds each with a mountain or meadow view. Four of the bedrooms are on the second floor and one is on the ground floor that may accommodate those who cannot negotiate stairs. The finished attic has a large common area with two single beds and a full bedroom with a queen bed and ensuite powder room. The large master suite has a deck overlooking the mountains. A large, farmhouse-style-yet-modern kitchen has a bay window with mountain ridge views, keeping it bright and light-filled. The kitchen counter, complete with stools, and large sectional offer sitting space for family and guests to keep company while sipping coffee over breakfast, as well as a large, round, eat-in kitchen table. The kitchen is totally stocked with everything you’ll need for preparing large family meals including Instant Pot, Kitchen Aid stand mixer, hand mixer, salad spinner, pancake griddle, panini/waffle maker, food processor, cookie sheets, pie pans, slicers, dicers, etc. plus oils, spices, sugar, flour, etc. The dining room has a 9-foot table that can accommodate 12 seated guests, with a view of the meadow, and candle-lit chandeliers.
The large living room with its cozy seating, includes a wood-burning fireplace and a large projection TV to enjoy a movie or your latest Netflix binge.
Outside is a Weber gas grill and an 8-foot picnic table with umbrella for outdoor dining along with Adirondack chairs, plenty of folding lawn chairs and a fire pit. There are three electric bicycles available for guests' use. Helmets and instructions are provided but guests use these bicycles at their own risk. The summer nights can be quite cool on the mountain so bring warm clothing.
