19th Century Provencal Bastide and Infinity pool

Our house is located at the head of a valley, facing south with views for miles towards The Massif des Maures and the coast. It sits in a tranquil position in 16 acres of its own land, yet is a short distance (1km) from one of the more beautiful villages in Provence. It has been lovingly and stylishly converted to a very high standard while still retaining its original Provençal features. There are high beamed ceilings and travertine floors throughout. The house benefits from a large open plan kitchen living room with a Lacanche style cooking range and open fire. The kitchen spills out through French doors to a large terrace with BBQ. Beyond the terrace is a large infinity pool with stunning views down the valley. There is Sky TV, DVD, wireless internet and ipod speakers.
PLEASE NOTE
**The house is served by a long drive up from the main road, it is un made up in parts so some guests may prefer accessing with a SUV or at least a car with reasonable ground clearance**

This grand house just outside bustling Cotignac, is a lovely, calm place to spend some quality time. Set in a quiet, forest valley, up a track from the local village. We had a relaxing time enjoying the views from the terrace and the pool. Also a great base to visit Gorges du Verdon, and local towns and street markets.

Beautiful location
We have just enjoyed a wonderful week at this property which was perfect for our family. Virginia met us and was very helpful when we first arrived. We read the reviews and hired an SUV which was definitely a bonus for driving to the house. You can’t hear anything apart from nature when you are here. It took about 25 minutes to walk into Cotignac which is a beautiful/buzzy village, and where we enjoyed some nights out. We spent a number of evenings in the villa watching the sun set over the hills - completely magical. It took about an hour to the Verdon and a bit further if you want to get to the walking trails. We wanted to stay longer.

Good location but thats it.
The location and pool are stunning, however sadly that's where it ends. The shower upstairs was broken leaving 6 of us ( including an 85 year old and an 80 year old ) to share the ensuit. I asked the guardian Virginia 3 times if this could be fixed to met net with indifference and pathetic excuses for reasons it could not be fixed. In addition the property was not clean, I had to clean the kitchen, showers and the outside furniture. My son had to move beds as he woke up covered in ants on the first night. I appreciate the rural location would mean creepy crawlies but really, a bed covered in ants. Noone clears out the cupboards, so they are full of old pasta, sauces, tins of old food and mayonnaise in the fridge. There were 5 old bottles of suntancream by the sink and moldy cloths and old dirty soap bars. The decking around the pool is dangerous. Its wooden and rotten with nails sticking out. I asked if there were any parasols as the pool is very sunny all day to be told again by Virginia that people sit in the shade ( there was no shade all day) I emailed the owner John the day after we got there and so far have not had a response. The check in times are 4pm and check out is 10am. We did get in at 4ish but again this was begrudgingly, I had requested to get in as near to 4pm as I could as we had elderly relatives with us, the response was ' I'll see what I can do'. I was asked to leave by 9.30am when I queried this as it says 10am on the website, again begrudgingly I was told ' I can do 9.45' To quibble over 15 mins when you are paying a significant amount of money to stay is ridiculous. The route up to the house is very rugged, which if you were in a 4x4 would be fine, we aren't precious about our car, it got scratched and bashed about quite a bit, so beware if you are precious about your car. The most disappointing thing is the lack of apology, concern or care of the guardian Virginia. Her responses to my requests for the shower to be fixed were bordering on rude. She couldn't care less if you have a nice stay or not. The night before we were going , I got a text asking me to go at 9.30am when we had agreed on 9.45. My advice is do yourselves a favour and book somewhere that is cared for and not just benefitting from its location.

wonderful place
The house is spacious with typical Provencal charm, it is nicely cool even on a hot day. We were 4 people (2 adults and 2 teenage kids) spending holidays there. The house was very well equipped, we found there everything we needed- dishwasher, washing machine, two big fridges, two coffee makers as well as the French press pots, sufficient amounts of pots, pans, cutleries and other dishes. There were also basic supplies-oil, salt, spices, dishwasher, and washing machine tablets. Tap water is not recommended for drinking, so we bought water barrels in the supermarket. The pool is big, very clean with a beautiful view and fresh water. The location is absolutely stunning, I can not imagine a better place for the holiday house- there is total privacy, nature is untouched, and the view can not be more spectacular. We had a feeling that we are very far away from everything, however, we were 5 minutes driving from Cotignac. The week we spent on John‘s property was very relaxing for all of us and we were captured by the beauty of the place. As regular visitors to Cotignac, we can say that there are not many properties with such a view and the qualities like this, despite the Cotignac and its surrounding is really extraordinary. We would return anytime.

Fantastic rental
Loved the house and the village of Cotignac. Everyone treated us with such friendliness and care. We all enjoyed swimming in the pool and appreciated the comfortable lounge chairs. We ate dinner each night at the outside marble table with the most wondrous breeze keeping us cool. We visited the Verdon Gorge and rented pedalos to appreciate the beauty up close and then swam in the lake. Some of the family also visited St. Tropez, which gave them a full beach day! I would recommend this house to everyone. We had six people and had room to move about comfortably.

A beautiful peaceful setting and only a 20 minute walk to the village, this property is very private and every aspect of its build and furnishings could not be faulted. Glen and Victoria look after the rental and live locally and we found them to be reliable and very helpful. A previous reviewer suggested the rambling laneway to the villa could damage vehicles but we did not find any issues, yes its slow progress but then you aren't in a hurry anyway and one of our party had a small 2 door citreon rental and it coped fine.Perhaps a low slung sports supercar may have issues. In summary,it would be difficult to find a better vacation rental in Provence if you value peace and tranquility.

Gorgeous pool with stunning view
Beautiful, tastefully renovated old farmhouse with a stunning infinity pool overlooking to-die-for views of rolling hills. The only drawbacks are those you'd expect with a rustic old house in the countryside (bugs -- though not mosquitoes -- and no air-conditioning). The house is extremely well appointed with a kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook up epic feasts, lots of pillows, a pink inflatable flamingo, and a really decent collection of games and books. The house is truly isolated -- your kids can scream to their heart's content as they pitch each other off the flamingo -- which means you need to either drive or take on a 30-minute hike for each croissant or apéritif in the charming town of Cotignac. One word of warning to motorists: the final stretch of the private road is steep and rocky and likely to scratch up your (rental) car. Plan accordingly.

Beautiful location
Roomy property in wonderfully isolated spot with great views from pool area. Loved the outdoor amenities and lounging areas, unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate and we spent most evenings inside. The bedrooms were spacious and there were no queues for the bathrooms. The bright kitchen was good for the chefs in the family but be aware there is no toaster or microwave which would have been handy. We were a party of 7 plus a baby and unfortunately there was only lounge seating for four (at a squeeze) and dining for six. The combustion heater was lovely and well utilised but more comfy seating would have been nice. There were also some issues with cleaning which I have spoken to the owner about and I’m sure will be addressed. Overall a lovely property but for the premium price being charged misses the mark a little.

Simply Amazing
If you want a picturesque Southern French experience this is the place. Starting with amazing location, beautiful home, and easy access this is it. The small town on Cotignac is a great home base and the home does not disappoint in any way. 3 couples in the home for a week and each day beacame more and more comfortable and relaxing. The photos are exactly what you get when you arrive at the home. We will absolutely recommend this property to anyone.

Restful, peaceful time in rural Provence.
We really appreciated the quiet, rustic setting. The property was the perfect base for us to explore Cotignac, Aups, Tourtour, Entrecasteaux, and other nearby villages. A visit to Château La Coste, located north of Aix-en-Provence, is highly recommended; as well as booking a house tour at 'Cap Moderne' (featuring inspiring modernist architecture by Eileen Gray, and Le Corbusier) in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. If you need a relaxing break, I do not think it gets better than Cotignac and the French Riviera. Excellent local organic rosé, white, and red wines during our week made our stay even better!

Lovely house with wonderful view.
The house is tastefully renovated and well equipped and is spectacularly located on a hillside with an expansive view of the surrounding countryside. Best to rent a small SUV to handle the access road. There's a pleasant easy walk over the hill into town.

Great secluded property with stunning views and pool
The property is situated up a windy track from the main road, but when you get to it, wow is it worth it! The infinity pool looks out over the surrounding countryside with no other properties in sight. The outdoor dining area is an ideal setting for long evening meals. The kitchen is well equipped and there is even Sky TV which was useful for the Lions tour! Cotignac is either a 30 minute walk or a 10 minute drive away and is full of character. Don't forget to take a basket from the pantry to the Tuesday market. There are restaurants aplenty in the area and we didn't find a bad one. We also visited the spectacular Verdon Gorge, but go early as it does get busy. We will be coming back I'm sure.

Amazing view
A lovely summerhouse in a unique location with a fantastic swimming pool. However, access to the house requires nearly a 4x4 vehicle due to the bumpy road. As for the house itself, a proper set of wine glasses would be appreciated. Air conditioning would also have been nice, as the nights are very hot.

Nice & lonely
Schönes, absolut einsam gelegenes Haus, recht geschmackvolle, einfache Einrichtung.

Eigentlich kein Schlafraum.
