We've never stayed in an inn quite like the Gaffer Inn. There's no sign, no real personnel connected with it, and it's kind of like staying in a Speakeasy from Prohibition Days. You can only enter during your prepaid time period with a special code. To get to your room, you have to walk up steep steps behind an unmarked door in the front or a bit scary metal steps if entering from the rear. This place is not handicapped accessible and there is no one to help you with luggage or questions or recommendations. Nevertheless, why did I give this five stars? Well, once you get to your room, it is beautiful and clean. It was like having a nice studio apartment, interestingly decorated and equipped with everything you could need. This is not the place for anyone who likes cookie-cutter hotels or needs lots of additional services or feels uncomfortable with checking in and out without human contact. But, if you like unique hotels that are walkable to many of Corning's attractions and restaurants, I highly recommend the Gaffer Inn.
