Villa Lithari is perched on the hillside of Viglatouri with spectacular views over the mountains and along the East coast of the island, towards the sea. Having operated as a typical Corfiot village olive press until the 80's, this traditional stone building has been turned into a beautiful 3-bedroom house, preserving its unique ornamental olive press and millstone - or lithari - in the living area!
Surrounded by a mediterranean garden and a wide mountainside olive grove, this property offers an ambience of peaceful nature living combined with contemporary villa amenities:
The private swimming pool is purposefully positioned to take full advantage of the views which extend past the rugged mountainside, down towards the island of Vidos, Corfu Town, and further down the South East coast.
The dining terrace at the side of the house has fantastic sea views, framed by the mountains, and is surrounded by lavender with steps down to the pool - the perfect setting for a traditional Greek dining experience.
* Entrance:
Villa Lithari has a private gated driveway for your hire cars with shallow steps up to the entrance. The villa was at one time an olive press, still abundantly apparent from the 'lithari' - or millstone - outside, and there is a table under the front porch fashioned from a once working part, an ideal spot for a morning coffee in the shade.
* Living space:
There is a spacious living area which is of a traditional open plan, split level design. The fully equipped kitchen is on the right, the dining table and chairs on the left, and a comfortable lounge area, WC and what is left of the original olive press at the far end. A door from the lounge opens onto the exterior dining area at the side of the villa, which has steps down to the private swimming pool at the rear. There is a second seating area with a built-in corner seating area adjacent to the BBQ terrace on the lower floor.
* Bedrooms & bathrooms:
Off of the lounge is a twin bedroom and a double bedroom, each with its own en suite bathroom. The double bedroom has a traditional wooden ceiling with exposed rafters and views out over the pool towards the sea. The twin bedroom adjacent is decorated in a similar style. The second twin bedroom is on this lower level, with patio doors onto the pool terrace and an adjacent bathroom.
* Location:
The villas' location is also convenient, close to the holiday resort of Nissaki, its harbour, beach and a selection of shops & restaurants, while Corfu town is a 20km drive away.
Viglatouri is a mountainside settlement facing the East coast of the island. Sprawling on the sides of a winding, uphill country road among successive olive groves, this small village boasts unspoiled mediterranean nature and spectacular sea views. Ideal location for visiting some of the most beautiful coves and beaches in northern Corfu while staying away from the bustling touristic areas. Offers trekking pathways to explore the foothills of Mount Pantokrator and "Old Sinies" - an early 19th cent abandoned village.
The small hamlet of Nissaki has managed to escape any large scale tourist development and, as such, enjoys an unhurried pace of life and a truly relaxed atmosphere. Nissaki Bay has three picturesque coves each sheltering its own pebble beach, clear blue waters and one with a tiny anchorage backed by a couple of fine tavernas. There is a small but good selection of gift shops to browse, as well as mini markets where you can pick up some fresh produce to take home and cook up on your very own BBQ. The nearby resort of Kassiopi has a much larger selection of shops to explore, and Corfu Town is also easily accessible by car for a more serious session of retail therapy!
