Aspen Lakehouse (in Victor, Co)

Aspen Lakehouse is a stunning, custom-built Colorado home. Skagway Reservoir is walking distance from the house and is a great trout fishing lake and excellent for canoeing or small boats. Aspen Lakehouse is the perfect place to relax, or if you prefer, there are a multitude of activities in the area from scenic byways such as Phantom Canyon Road (old tram railroad for gold miners), Shelf Road (old stagecoach route), Gold Camp Road and High Park Road, to area hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, white water rafting, gold mine tours, golf, Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Mueller State Park, Pikes Peak and Pikes Peak Cog Railroad, Cave of the Winds, and much more. There is convenient shopping at Woodland Park, Colorado which is approximately 30 miles away and quaint nearby gold mining towns of Victor and Cripple Creek to explore.

Built in 2002 the house has recently been updated with custom features. The house contains 5 bedrooms including 2 master bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, a large gourmet kitchen with new appliances, spacious living room with a fireplace, new TV and DVD player and oversized laundry room with new washer and dryer. Many windows throughout the house and an eight to ten foot wide wrap-around porch provide for the enjoyment of total privacy, tranquility and phenomenal views of the mountains and lake. At 9,100’ elevation on 80 peaceful acres surrounded by aspen trees, it overlooks beautiful Skagway Reservoir located 12 miles from Cripple Creek, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from western Colorado Springs. There is a 6 mile county maintained gravel road from Victor, CO (CR 86 and a quick left onto CR 861) which takes you to Skagway Reservoir. The road up to the lake house is a steep, gravel/rock road. A 4WD vehicle is required for snowy seasons and even recommended for the spring through fall seasons.

Perfect
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the cabin. We are a family of ten (3 daughters, 2 sons in law, 3 grandsons, plus my wife and I), and the cabin size was perfect. It had everything we needed. We sat on the wraparound porch every day watching the hummingbirds and admiring the beauty of the scenery below. A short drive to the reservoir allowed us to fish or hike the trail along the creek. We are all in agreement that this was the most relaxing vacation taken as a family. I highly recommend this cabin. We are already looking for dates for next year!

We love this place
We have stayed at Aspen Lake House many times over the last 10 years. Some of our best vacation memories have been here. The owners take very good care of the property and there is very good communication with the property manager. It is a beautiful place, and a beautiful home. You won’t be disappointed.

Aspen Lake House Family Vacation
My family and I throughly enjoyed this lake house for our recent family vacation. We had plenty of room and the views were spectacular! All of the rooms were very clean and each bedroom was large! We quickly realized that there would have been enough room to have brought the grandparents. It is close to the Skagway lake which was a great place to fish and picnic. I can’t wait to book another stay!

We spent 6 nights at this beautiful house. The views are amazing. The aspens were changing colors while we were there. House is secluded and very well equipped. Enjoyed working with Debbie, the manager. We plan on coming back!

My favorite Colorado experience.since I was a child!
Views of Pikes Peak (you can see lights at night) and Cheyenne Mountain. A fantastic home with huge kitchen and massive main level covered deck which probably has more square feet than my house. Excellent fishing at the reservoir just down the road. We also saw a Bald Eagle, Coopers Hawk, Rufous Hummingbird and Stellars Jay. I also saw Big Horn Sheep on my way out. Perfect, Beautiful and Relaxing!..

Beautiful and serene
One of the best places we have stayed! Layout of the house and bedrooms was perfect for our family. We all have many stresses in our lives right now and this was a place to have some peace and just enjoy family time. Kitchen was well stocked. Home was clean and so comfy. There was room to spread out and plenty of solitude, but perfect for family meals and games. The reservoir was a short jaunt down the hill. Our group has decided to visit again. Just a wonderful experience. A true blessing when we needed it.

Great cabin and plenty of room
We arrived at this gorgeous cabin that is tucked up, up in the trees. Definitely a steep but fun driveway that brings you up to this gorgeous house. There is more than enough room for 2 familys plus. Large island with large tables to eat and play games on. We played cards at night with a few adult beverages. Bedrooms are great sized. Large rap around deck was awesome. The hummingbirds where cool to watch. We filled there water 4 times in a week. Once counted 15 hummingbirds at once around feeder. Short drive down driveway and right out the driveway and you have a wonderful reservoir to fish at. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Matthew Gilbert

Amazing
This was an amazing experience. The cabin was absolutely beautiful with breathtaking views. Waking up in the mornings from the master bedroom allowed us to lay in bed while taking in the mountain/lake views and listening to the birds with the windows open. We also experienced waking up to deer near the cabin. There was also plenty of living space for dining, cooking, relaxing near the fireplace or spending time out on the deck’s. The lake was very convenient. The family absolutely loved the fishing experience as well as convenient hiking trails next to the river. It’s a beautiful place to escape the city life, yet not too far from home. The Hosts, Walter and Carolyn were just a phone call away and very nice people to work with. If you absolutely love nature, this is the place!!

Amazing New Years in the Snow at the Aspen Lake House
We celebrated the New Year at Aspen Lake House, and it was a phenomenal experience. Nestled in a secluded location, the house perfectly balanced privacy and convenience (an hour and a half from Colorado Springs). Our dream was to have a cabin in the woods where the kids could step outside and play in the snow, and Aspen Lake House delivered precisely that. We were greeted by freshly fallen snow that adorned the landscape throughout our stay, creating a picturesque setting for sledding and snow play. The house was great, boasting a well-equipped kitchen catering to all our culinary needs. Its two master bedrooms were particularly beneficial, offering ample space and comfort for our family and friends to share the dwelling without compromising privacy. The decks were a highlight, offering stunning, awe-inspiring views. However, the decks would really benefit from a built-in heater or a gas fire pit to allow winter guests to enjoy the majestic outdoor scenery even in the chilly winter months. We enjoyed our stay at the Aspen Lake House and would love to come back again in the summer or winter.

You cannot imagine how beautiful the views are!
Photos simply cannot capture the beauty of the property! If you are looking for secluded, peaceful surroundings, & a quiet place to relax, you will not be disappointed! The Aspen Lakehouse was even better than our family imagined! The house itself was comfy & well appointed. We prepared & ate every meal there, enjoying the views. We saw deer & hummingbirds! (we refilled the feeder every day)! Hostess provided information at the house regarding what to see and do in the area, where to go hiking, etc. A few items to note (we had no issues, just sharing info!): 1. There is no cell service; but WiFi works fine. 2. Woodland Park provides convenient options to pick up essentials such as fresh Papa Murphy’s pizza to bake at the house, or groceries (if you plan to prepare meals at the house). 3. The house isn’t near restaurants or tourist attractions, but those things were not a priority for us! 4. The driveway is steep, but our all-wheel drive vehicle made it fine. Our 2 daughters (professional musicians) filmed music videos on the property; by the granite wall, on the boulders, on the covered deck balcony, the aspen grove, and the grassy wildflower meadow! If you would like to get a better feel for the surroundings & see the views at The Aspen Lakehouse, search for “The Finestrung Duo”, on YouTube, Facebook, & Instagram & watch their music videos (the videos recorded on the property are tagged as “Colorado”)! We would be thrilled to stay at The Aspen Lake House again!

Excellent place for a secluded family getaway
We loved our stay at Aspen Lake House! We just had a discussion and can't think of anything significant we would change about the place. The place was meticulously clean and very well equipped. This isn't a "cabin" by my standards, it's a very nicely appointed home. It has way more room than our family of 4 needed. In fact there's easily room for twice our number or more. The wrap-around porch is an amazing place to have coffee and take in the stunning views. Be prepared for cool mornings. Show up with everything you need for meals as the closest source for groceries is Cripple Creek (with a limited supply), or the Walmart an hour away in Woodland Park. While Victor is a wonderful old mining town, don't expect much. If you're into a lot of structured activities, this place may not suit you. If you like enjoying nature on your own terms, it's perfect. It is also important to know that getting there requires 5-6 miles of well-maintained gravel road, then a few hundred feet of fairly steep private drive to the house. It's nowhere near "Jeep-only" terrain, but it helps if you've driven mountain roads a bit. Also the gate lock can be deceiving, look for the "line" to align the supplied code. If you're up for the "remoteness", I would certainly recommend this place. Enjoy, and safe travels!

Awesome Family Vacation
We are in love with this property. This was our fifth time staying here with our large family. As the older kids start to leave the nest, these times become precious. The view from this house is spectacular, and this time of the year, it is very secluded, with few visitors to the reservoir (only a few brave ice fishermen). Late winter/early spring weather is always a wildcard here. We have had years with snowstorms and some with perfect spring hiking weather - and a few like this with BOTH. The property has a fantastic selection of DVDs for relaxing at the end of the day. Our family enjoys either hiking or playing in the snow during the day along with lots of board games. There is also a nice fireplace to enjoy while you are inside. The kitchen has everything you can think of for cooking during your stay - from high quality cooking pots and pans to very nice dishes. I cannot say enough good about this property and location. Debbie has been the property manager since our first stay in 2012 and she is wonderful. Springtime hints... you have seen it before on here, but a 4WD vehicle is a must for the climb to the house with any winter precip. I also bring chains just in case, but have not needed them since we went to 4WD as they do plow the dirt road. Also, as I mentioned, we like the quiet family time and seclusion. Many of the Victor and Cripple Creek attractions are not open in the off-season. We did travel this time to do the Royal Gorge Rail trip and into Cripple Creek one day for a drink and a look at the casinos. Someday, we plan to check it out when the museums are in full swing. The altitude (9300 ft) has been a problem for a few of us, especially when we drive straight up rather than a night in Colorado Springs to acclimate. We live a sea level and that probably has something to do with it. Minor stuff though - just be prepared to deal with it. Bottom line. The property is beautiful, well-maintained, and the communication with the property manager was great. You won't be disappointed.
