The pictures on Expedia don’t do this hotel justice; this was the most beautiful hotel I’ve stayed at so far in Europe. The walls are decorate with actual marble/stone engraved book covers. This place is designed to pay homage to the Joanina library in Coimbra and they did an amazing job. Everything was also very clean and the service was great, breakfast was also excellent and the view from the rooftop was incredible. Even though the hotel is centrally located it’s was very quiet in the room, we couldn’t hear anything in the room. If you are looking for unique and interesting stay in Coimbra I definitely recommend this hotel.

Beautiful hotel! The decor is amazing. The half million tiles in the foyer are breathtaking and represent Portugal well. Great location also! Staff is so helpful and courteous. Breakfast was excellent. Can’t wait to visit again!

The room was very nicely furnished and the bed was a comfortable experience. The hotel could not have a better location for exploring and dining. Certainly the best part of our stay was the warm and helpful staff. This is the place to stay in Coimbra.

OUTSTANDING Hotel
The hotel was gorgeous! One of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at in my life. Decor was beautiful, the room was very modern and very large. Wonderful breakfast and view from the top floor where you eat breakfast. Staff was helpful and very polite. I will stay here again when I come to Coimbra.

Somewhat odd hotel
This hotel was confusing in a few ways. First, we did not receive directions how to access this not so accessible hotel when management knew the GPS instructions are wrong. So we spent 1/2 hour driving in circles before finally driving on a pedestrian walkway, unloading luggage, then parking on the other side of the river. The hotel appears to pride itself on high tech, but the 20 some switches in the room make for confusion on what controls what lighting and window shades, one of which broke our first day. The bed is supposed to be state of the art, yet it is very soft by most standards. We felt that we were sleeping in a valley. The breakfast was modest. The rugs throughout the hotel, especially in the elevator, should be vacuumed and cleaned more often. The hotel is fashioned after the university library, and so the decor is concrete sculpted books on the walls of the shower, toilet and hallway areas. Very unique. The staff were professional and friendly. The area around the hotel is cheerful with many cafes. As in a lot of Portugal, the walk to the university and other restaurants is steep though we learned too late of an elevator.

The only comment I have is that there is no washcloth in the shower and no tray for the soap… I had no idea where to put it, and just left it sitting in the sink. Sort of odd, considering they thought of EVERYTHING else! 😊

What a wonderful surprise - I didn’t do a lot of research ahead and found myself in one of the best boutique hotels I have been to. The hotel only has 15 rooms and the decor is so beautiful and unique. The finishes are top notch and the bed …. How much I’m going to miss that bed. The staff was super friendly and helpful - if I could give 6 starts I would in this case.
