This is my second review for this listing. If you read my April review, it was filled with positives and compliments. Sadly, our second stay here was a total 180.
My husband arrived ahead of me (we took two cars) and greeted me at the door shaking his head. The place was not at all clean: dirty dishes in the dishwasher, sticky counters, unvaccummed areas, and wrinkled bedding which suggested the beds did not have fresh, clean sheets. Dirty towels were in the washing machine with no laundry detergent in sight.
I promptly let the host know via text and pictures, and to his credit, he immediately called me. We spoke for about a minute or two and he apologized, said this was unacceptable, and explained that he had a new cleaner. I am a reasonable person. I told him that I understand that things like this can happen. That is where our communication ended. I reached out to him later to say I was going to the store to get detergent (to rewash all the towels and sheets) and I'd be glad to pick up some cleaning supplies to help him out...and what else could I do.? No response. Pretty rude in my book - I was only trying to help him because I figured he had another guest rolling in after we left on Sunday.
I messaged him via VRBO, as well as texting directly to him. He never offered to comp the fee I paid for housecleaning which seemed like a no brainer. A relative stopped by to get something from the garage and I expressed to her how disappointed I was that the owner had not reached out to me to discuss adjusting my bill or to check back in with me. She contacted him right in front of me and he said - yes, I'll do that. But no follow up or adjustment was made. I'll now have to contact VRBO to get some of my money back.
Communication and mutual courtesy go a long way. While I was in no way happy about walking into unclean conditions and having to start my stay by cleaning this home, I do not appreciate being ignored by the owner. Had I been the owner, I would have really tried to right the situation. The owner unnecessarily made a bad situation so much worse. Would have given this place another try since our first experience was so good...and would have left a much less negative review...but the lack of communication was so blatant and unacceptable that I felt it warranted this unfavorable review.
On a side note, I washed/folded all of the towels before we left, and left the place much better than we found it just to be considerate. Zero thanks.
