The Red Kite Shepherd's Hut

Set in tranquil ancient woodland at the heart of the 1,000-acre Acton Scott Estate in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our glamping site offers an atmospheric rural experience and promises a care-free adventure for all. With just three encampments, each begging to be explored, you'll have the opportunity to make friends with other visitors whilst also being able to take valuable time out from the distractions of everyday life. Alternatively, if you want the site all to yourself, we can accommodate parties of up to ten people. Each encampment has a barbeque and a private hot tub, from which you can watch the stars in peace, except for the occasional crackle of the wood-fired stove. There is electricity and hot water in each encampment, so you don't have to live completely off-grid!
The site was freshly remodelled in 2023. Our new farm shop features gourmet, hand-prepared ready meals from the nearby Deli, perfect for those lazy days. Plenty of delicious local produce is also on offer, meaning you can visit us without the stress of a supermarket shop! The helpful visitor information section in the shop includes our new 'Wander Wall', where you'll find details of local hikes and activities for all ages and abilities. Your friendly host Tam can also give you recommendations for things to do throughout your stay in addition to those provided in your handbook.
The quaint market town of Church Stretton is a five-minute drive away, where you'll find small, independent shops and Carding Mill Valley, a very popular spot for walkers. The larger towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow make for an excellent day-trip. If you fancy an evening meal, there are three high quality pubs within a 3-mile radius.
Our hand-crafted, locally-made Shepherds' Huts suit the historic nature of the area perfectly. With a cosy woodburning stove, underfloor heating, a full-sized double bed complete with Egyptian cotton linen, an en-suite bathroom and a kitchenette, there's everything you'd expect of a luxury holiday and more.

We offer a variety of extras which can be booked during the checkout process. These include breakfast and BBQ hampers, a glass bottle of fresh milk which can be refilled at the next-door organic dairy. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome - there is a small additional charge for cleaning.
All of us at Acton Scott work hard to enrich its appeal to visitors and we are confident you will have a restorative and memorable holiday with us. If you have any questions, please email us at escapes@actonscott.com. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Shepherds Hut stay
We were luck enough to have an earlier check in and the check in was easy and everything ready for us on our arrival. We had ordered a breakfast hamper of local produce and all was ready in the hut. The hut was bigger than it looks and plenty big enough for 2 adults and 2 small dogs. Everything you could think of was in the hut. We didn’t use the underfloor heating or the log burner as the hut was really warm without it. The hot tub was amazing and was so easy to use by ourselves. Doesn’t take a lot to get to a nice temperature, was lovely watching the sky late at night from the hot tub. One thing perhaps missing would be some sort of glass holder whilst in the tub, not essential though! It was such a peaceful and lovely setting even with neighbours in the other huts, you never really heard or saw them unless out on a dog walk. Amazing and will definitely book again - thanks Tam!
