"Nice 2 night stay. We ate in the restaurant on one evening which was average, I had the steak and ale pie which I really enjoyed however my wife had the vegetable tandoori curry which was very bland and not really a curry. The room was very warm and very clean. "

Perfect Lakeland stay

"We had a fantastic few days staying at the Royal Oak. Our room was perfect - very clean with extremely comfortable beds, an amazing shower and a lovely view straight onto the river. Lots of walking straight from the door, handy drying room for wet kit and lovely cosy bar and lounge for an after walk drink and board game. Dinner was absolutely delicious with a choice of three options each night. Highly recommended - we will definitely return!"

"Our experience was amazing. The room was so cosy, clean and warm. A beautiful bath with gorgeous toiletries supplied. The owner and son were so friendly and helpful. They have a dry room which was great for our hiking gear. The breakfast was the best breakfast I've ever had at any hotel, b&b or guest houses. Will definitely be back again. "

"What an amazing hostel! Perfect location and lovely building, The panelled lounge full of lovely leather sofas, books and a roaring fire was particularly fine. Staff were friendly and accommodating, the beer was good and the full english veggie breakfast the ideal precursor to some stiff walking. "

"Fabulous refurbished hotel, very modern but in a traditional way given its location. We had a garden suite (Millican Dalton) which was an absolute delight, very spacious and quiet, views over fields & hills. The only fault, although minor was there is no fridge in the room and there is a patio area with table & chairs with view to the hills but it hadn’t been cleaned for sometime, lots of moss & quite slippy. We had dinner in the restaurant both nights & the food quality was very good & presented beautifully. Great breakfast menu. All the staff were very attentive, friendly and went out of their way to make the stay enjoyable. The plus point for us is that they only have a couple of rooms for dogs & dogs are not allowed in the bar or restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, I like dogs, but I don’t want to stay in a room where they have been & I certainly don’t want to eat in a restaurant with them when most guests are dressed for dinner & unfortunately have seen dogs jump up at staff when they are trying to serve food. "
