Contemporary rural cabin in the Cotswolds

Overview:
Field end started as a small barn built with friends during a barn raising. Now extended by John it is a simple, stylish, underfloor heated 2 bedroom cabin. With a deck that extends into the field at the back, a hammock and a BBQ, it is immersed in surrounding Cotswold countryside. We are dog friendly and have ample parking. Thirty minutes drive to Oxford, three minutes drive to the village of Great Tew and Soho Farmhouse, Field End is well connected for exploring the surrounding rural area. There are two other properties on site, we live in one and the other is called The Artists House and can be booked in conjunction with Field end to sleep a total of 12 guests. Both are completely separate buildings with private entrances and parking.

Ground Floor - With a ramp up to the property and everything at ground level, the property is easy to access. As you enter the property you are led into the open plan kitchen/living area, with a fireplace, sofa and table that seats 4-6 guests it is perfect for cooking and socialising. There are two bedrooms, both King sized which can be separated into singles if required. The larger room is lighter due to a high window and the smaller has an en-suite with a shower. There is another general bathroom with a shower as well. We have a cot available if needed, let us know and we can set that up for your arrival.

Outside - Double doors to the outside which can be left open, bring nature into the kitchen/dining area. There is seating on the deck which can host 8+ guests, a BBQ, sun shade if required and a hammock to enjoy the surrounding nature. There is plenty of parking space on the property, but if you’re arriving with more than 2 cars please let us know.

The Site:
Built originally as a large playroom/nursery we extended added and re-built it as children started to fly our nest in 2015. Designed and built by John you can see the frame going up at the end of the photos. We are part of the Great Tew Estate and Field End is part of the site called Potato Town. The history of the name is a bit of a mystery but the " Town "consists of a cluster of buildings. Field End is separated by a garden, bordered by a lane and fields.

Things to Note:
Pam and John live in one of the other properties on site so help is at hand if required and after having travelled extensively in their youth enjoy hosting other peoples memorable journeys and breaks. Without being too earnest about it we are trying to reduce our waste and adopt eco friendly practices. We air dry our french linen bedding and are moving over to as much organic cotton as possible. We provide toiletries from Faith In Nature in refillable dispensers and do not use chemicals on the garden. As mentioned above, both bedrooms contain beds that can be separated into single beds if needs be, please let us know how you would like the beds for your arrival.

Where you’ll be:
Field End is perfect for exploring the rural Cotswold countryside, you can walk directly into the village of Swerford or walk down “The Lane” a path that leads from the deck of Field End into to beautiful views. The Boxing Hare serving delicious food is 200 yards down the road. Discover the Cotswold villages of Stow on the Wold and Burford within 20 minutes drive. Closer still, explore the thatched village of Great Tew with its Famous Pub The Falkland Arms and enjoy coffee or food to takeaway at Quince and Clover. Soho Farmhouse is less than a five minute drive away. Daylesford Organic Farmshop for spa treatments and luxury is nearby in the village of Kingham. National Trust properties of Hidcote, Chastleton and Upton are within easy reach as is Blenheim Palace and the town of Woodstock. Less than a minute drive from Chipping Norton, shops, pubs and cafes are easily accessible. Oxford is a thirty minute drive away and Bath an hour.

Getting around:
You will need access to a car. The nearest stations are Banbury and Charlbury, both around 20 minutes drive away, Oxford Parkway is slightly further afield but all train stations run direct to London Marylebone or London Paddington. There is a bus that goes into Oxford from Chipping Norton every hour till late.

An idyllic setting and wonderful hosts
we staued for three nights and had the most wonderful stay. The location is great and only a short drive to lots of local attractions and surrounding villages. Our hosts couldn't have done enough for us and we are already planning on coming back next year. Thank you so much for having us.

JUST AWFUL
Dirty, no wardrobes, no drawers, not clean windows, no windows that could be opened, tiny TV , small shower which kept blocking , awful cooker, laundry up the garden and very dirty, all in all worse place we have ever stayed at and for what we got very very expensive. Wish we could have moved elsewhere. One plus owners were very nice but deluded about the barn

Wonderful
This accommodation surpassed our expectations in every way. John was so helpful and friendly. Attention to detail had gone into everything and the outside space was just superb. The icing on the cake was watching a deer walking down to us on the decking whilst we held our breaths. We can't wait to return. Hope the weekend is full of joy and celebration for you both. Carolyn

Beautifully laid out cottage
Our hosts were very welcoming to their beautiful and cosy cottage surrounded by blooming flower beds. We had all the necessary amenities and the cottage served as a central base for exploring Oxford and many surrounding villages. The only slight downside was that the property is on a sometimes busy road but during rush hour the passing whoosh of cars can be drowned out with some nice music. We would recommend this cottage for its amenities, beauty and proximity to areas of interest as well as its charming and helpful hosts.

Absolute gem of a holiday barn
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Christmas. The barn is lovely, beautifully presented, very well equpped and really comfortable. What makes it special Is the thoughtfulness of Pam and John (owners)... we arrived to find a Christmas tree and lights all set up and other practical touches - sellotape, cooking foil, kitchen supplies and decent equipment for cooking. Great location, great stay, great owners - thank you both, we’d love to visit again.

a creative charming peaceful haven
A wonderful stay in the artistic artisan building of artist Pam and wood designer John. The sun just drenched through the windows with views across the fields. The beautiful painting of Pam's combined with the detailed use of wood in the building were the foundations for making us feel at home. Add white crisp sheets, Yummy home made bread, a smiley welcome, and great conversation. We are coming back.......

We had a lovely weekend visiting local towns and villages and the cottage was a great place to stay, with real thought put into the layout, furnishings and equipment e.g. in the kitchen. The owners were very welcoming too.

Ideal for Mum
Lovely two bed home from home, which is all on one level so ideal for any older guests who may struggle with stairs. Very friendly welcome from owners who live on site, and good selection of free "essentials" such as tea and coffee. Decking area is great spot for afternoon tea and watching the local wildlife, especially pheasants and kites.

Cotswold cottage that ticks all the boxes!
Field End cottage provides extremely comfortable accommodation for four in a very attractive part of the Cotswolds. The interior is bright, airy and pleasantly decorated; it is very well appointed, has extremely comfortable beds and the patio seats and table encourage full advantage to be taken of any decent weather. We have just enjoyed an excellent break here. The location is so convenient with numerous attractions within easy reach. There is a good pub - the Masons Arms - which serves excellent food. just down the road. And a network of local paths enable the attractive local villages - Swerford, Hook Norton, Great Tew and Little Tew - to be explored on foot. John and Pam were responsive and helpful from the moment we completed our booking and made us feel extremely welcome throughout our stay. Our daughter was particularly appreciative of the hammock, which enabled her to work on her dissertation without missing out on the remarkably good spring weather. The welcome pack with its local produce was another nice touch. We would recommend this property unreservedly!

Wonderful
A beautiful cottage in stunning surroundings. John and Pam could not have been more welcoming. The cottage was excellent for my access needs - ramped access into the property, step-free access throughout inside and shower cubicles with a very slight step. We cannot wait to return!

An enjoyable place to stay, lovely hosts, and easy access to Cotswold villages and Oxford.
Field End is well situated and screened in Pam's lovely garden, which was full of beautiful dahlias when we were there. They have created a private space for visitors to enjoy, with a wonderful decking area to the rear overlooking open fields and woods, complete with table and seating for al fresco dining, and a hammock to relax in and gaze at the stars! A welcoming gesture of artisan bread, local beer, chorizo, milk, chocolate and fruit was much appreciated to begin our week's stay. The large windows and patio doors provide lots of light to the rooms, with comfortable beds, two shower rooms and fresh flowers from the garden making it an enjoyable interior. Parking is easy, and the property is ideally situated for all the wonderful Cotswold villages and Oxford. It was a pleasure to meet Pam and John, our lovely hosts.

Great Cotswold Vacation Barn
The converted barn was a great home base for visiting the Cotswolds. It was perfect for two couples and was exactly as described. We found it clean and comfortable with all that we needed for our weeks stay. We found fresh flowers, a fresh baked loaf of bread, a bottle of Hook beer, coffee, sugar, a discount card for The Mason Arms Pub (just down the road), and excellent information and instructions for enjoying our stay. The back deck, table, and hammock were perfect for relaxing and enjoying the country view and wildlife. You are near all key towns in this region and there is an Aldi grocery store within 4 miles. The owners were away but their daughter was very friendly and helpful whenever we had questions or needed assistance.

Delightful building, views, location and owners.
A lovely spacious modern cottage with lots of character set in a great location. Surrounded by open countryside and small cottage garden. A large decked area is lovely to sit with a coffee and what the Red Kites. The owners Pam and John are fabulous. We will most definitely be back.

A gem of a cottage that made the holiday
Stayed here with two old friends from university for a short summer getaway, and we were blown away by presentation of the cottage (which John and Pam built themselves!) and the fantastic value for money - especially appreciated as we're all in our mid-twenties. Accessibility is really important for one of my friends and she was delighted we found this gem of a cottage which was clearly designed with this in mind - in fact she said she'd love to live somewhere similar! (I think we all would.) John and Pam could not have been more welcoming or accommodating - they met us when we arrived and when we talked about having a BBQ out on the decking for our first evening (given the glorious weather), John immediately got us coal from the shed and Pam gave us directions to Chipping Norton so we could get our burgers! You know it's a good cottage when everyone keeps congratulating you for finding it, from the minute you arrive through the door. It made the whole holiday experience really special and I know we'll be back - I can imagine it becoming a regular haunt for our reunions. Thank you Pam and John.

Idyllic getaway
John and Pam have created and wonderful retreat. My family and I had such a special few days staying in the beautiful property. It is surrounded by lovely fields and gardens. Although John and Pam's home is only a few minutes walk away, it feels totally secluded and private. It is very well equipped, clean and has lovely crisp bed linen. Our young children really enjoyed themselves as well (Pam provided them with a few toys) and they loved running through the fields. One of the highlights of our stay was sitting outside on the deck, sipping wine and looking out over the beautiful fields. Thank you so much!

Gorgeous creative retreat
My partner and I chose this property for a 3 night stay during which to work on writing and arranging some new songs. It was absolutely the perfect place for us. The open plan sitting/kitchen/dining area is generously sized and gave us plenty of space for working, with a large table so we could eat one end and work at the other. This area gives out onto a decked platform with a large table and seating and a wonderful hammock for when the thinking needed a rest. This area looks out onto open fields that were an early summer's haze of grassses and dandelion clocks. The whole property is not overlooked although our hosts, Pam & John, were only a short distance away and they offered us the perfect mixture of friendliness and respect for privacy. We were particularly delighted by the creative ambience they have endowed which was immensely helpful in feeding our own creativity. The two bedrooms are comfortable and light, each with a clean en-suite shower with plentiful hot water. The kitchen is very well equipped, which was appreciated as we like to mostly self-cater, and the underfloor heating was very effective in just taking the chill off the day. The bedrooms can be controlled seperately which we found a real bonus. Although we didn't explore the area, we did treat ourselves to a pub dinner on the last night and were recommended the pub in Great Tew which was very pretty and charming with welcoming staff and a delicious menu. We have been very impressed and excited by our stay and very much look forward to returning in the near future.

Amazing house and beautiful location.
We spent a weekend and loved it. We were a group of 4 friends so had the bedrooms set up as two twins. It was far more spacious than it looks on the photos. The owners are lovely and the terrace/veranda is stunning. The photos do not do this place justice, it is fantastic!

Relaxing comfortable property.
We spent a lovely week at this property. John and Pam could not have been more welcoming or helpful on our arrival. The property is well equipped and made it easy to cater. The views from the decking are wonderful and relaxing outside with seating and hammock made it very comfortable. If we return to the area we would definitely stay again. Thank-you. The Mason Arms just a walk along the road served excellent food.
