Very clean and spacious rooms. Reception staff were very helpful. The large shared lounge room and tables/chairs on the balcony were fantastic. Wonderful location

Decent
Great location, convenient access to the rest of town as well as outside the old city. It is loud as others have pointed out and a room not facing the street is advised - the staff are very friendly and helped accomodate our request. Earplugs still recommended though. Plumbing fixtures were not secured, sink faucet was not affixed. Shower is quite week but reliable hot water. AC & other amenities all working. Front desk super helpful for the area.
The hotel is quaint and nicely laid out. The street noise is a little bit bothersome as well as the soccer field right behind the property. The walls appear to be quite thin as you can literally hear everything and anything from outside. The location is good though. Close to a lot of things to see and do.

Great little boutique hotel
l. Very clean and good location. Mint At the reception was great to us and helped us with all her needs great a place to stay to 2-3days
This hotel is right by the north gate, so near some fun action but it got a little loud being two doors from an open live music bar. Staff was a little tough to communicate with, but one receptionist was very helpful in getting us a car to the airport in the craziness of songkran. Overall, we were happy with our experience.
Nice spacious room within the old city walls. There's plenty of places to eat within walking distance and also near the city centre. There can be some noise from the street level but overall it was a good hotel
The hotel is currently located at the north gate of the old town Chiang Mai. It looks chic on the outside, our small room is comfy but quite well equipped. It faces the inner circle road of the old town so noise level is high while not affecting our sleep. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is no parking space but the Security occupied a street space in front of the entrance to let us park. The receptionist took the time to show what’s great in town to see, she is interactive and helpful.
Very nice hotel with very nice staff. Conveniently located in Chiangmai for an excellent price. Coffee shop downstairs was great. Rooms are very clean with daily service. I would stay here again.
The staff on the front desk are absolutely brilliant - they give you maps and tell you all about the local area when you are. The room was a little smaller than we expected but all in all it was a lovely hotel and we had a lovely time.
Had 2 rooms here for 2 nights with my parents, and we all enjoyed our stay here. Location was excellent, right next to the north gate where there were both morning and night food markets (cowboy hat pork leg stew lady in the evenings), with good dining, shopping and massage options within a short walk away. Taxi from the airport was 130 baht with the metre.
The staff were very helpful and forthcoming with local information, and spoke excellent English.
The facilities were basic but good here, with a fridge and kettle in the room, and free bikes to hire. The shower could be better but electric showers seem quite common here.
The key reason I gave this 4 rather than 5 circles is the noise. The walls are thin and due to the hotel being on a busy road it does get very noisy during the night. If you are a light sleeper then I wouldn't stay near here or on this road; I'd go and find a soi somewhere a bit quieter.
The hotel location is pretty good I would say as it is situated at the north gate where road side food are abundance. A short walk will lead you to Ginger The House if you desire Asian-European fusion food. The hotel staffs are friendly and kind enough to give us a mosquito spray on top of providing us route tips to the night bazaar. Red taxi trucks are aplenty once you exit the hotel front porch.
The hotel is new, the rooms are very comfortable and the staff is probably the best we've seen. It's within walking distance to markets, temples, massages and everything else you want to see. It is on a busy street though, so traffic is loud and goes all through the night - we always travel with ear plugs so we were fine. But you will need them!
Air conditioner is strong, bed is great, so is the shower. I had read about water pressure issues but found none. Really comfortable.
We stayed 5 nights here, and truly loved it. There is a laundry place next door, and staff was very kind to go collect ours when ready (we were out on a tour and wouldn't be back on time). How sweet is that?
Ah, the restaurant next door (Cool Café) makes the absolute best coconut smoothie I'll ever have in my life. Don't miss it!
Shanghai mansion was a great place to stay for a few days before flying home. It gave us a cool place to stay when it got too hot to be out during the day
Lady at front desk was very helpful. Rooms were comfortable but lacked closets/shelving. Great location in old city, you can easily walk everywhere in old city from hotel. Has a nice common room to relax in as well as a wrap around balcony with a view of the canal.
The hotel offered me a bigger room (S1) but very noise due to heavy traffic just outside the room. It was very hard to get some sleep before 4am

Nice Hotel, noisy!
Friendly and helpful staff, modern hotel. But beware the noise!!!! Even with rooms facing away from the street, the lack of soundproofing and the general noise of Chiang Mai traffic outside makes it difficult to sleep without earplugs
Spent 4 nights at Le Canal in June 2015 and the experience far surpassed our expectations based on the price.
Excellent room with good amenities, hot shower, comfortable bed and excellent wifi reception (despite other reviews). Place even has an AC lounge room where we hosted friends from other hotels we had met on our travels.
Even when we had a minor problem with the AC the first night and were offered a new room immediately with no concerns.
Staff were by far the best part of the place. It is a family run business and they live on site. We arrived at 9am after an overnight train and were able to check in immediately. They went out of their way to book busses and day trips for us and would even haggle the taxi drivers for us to ensure we got the best rate. Even when we left the do not disturb sign on the door we would return every day to find bottles of water waiting outside the door for us.
Only negative is no breakfast but there is no shortage of coffee shops near by (even one on sight) and we didn't really miss it!
Cannot say anything negative about our stay! Le Canal made our experience in Chiang Mai special!
We had a great time visiting Chiang Mai and staying at Le Canal Boutique House. If you plan to visit the area, I highly recommend you stay here. You'll pay a great price for a great room and great service. I booked this room because of the great reviews. I did notice some people made note of the noise. When staying in this area of Chiang Mai, note that it's a very busy street/area so it's to be expected that there will be some noise in the evening. We stayed on the 2nd floor and personally didn't have noise issues.
