Explore 9 private acres of elegant gardens, rolling lawns, meadows, and wooded paths, complete with an (unheated) private pool. This comfortable, sunny home has 3 bedrooms (one with a loft), a large living area featuring a new wood burning fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen. Enjoy complete seclusion at this little slice of paradise, which is at the end of a quiet dirt road, with no immediate neighbors, but only about 2 miles to shops and restaurants in town.
The house is about 2 miles outside the village of Chatham. Chatham's many attractions include Supersoul Yoga, the Crandell Movie Theatre, Bimi's Cheese Shop, and the Chatham Brewery. The village has numerous restaurants, cafes, and small shops, is charming and eminently walkable.
If you are interested in the outdoors, there are several public tennis courts within easy drive (2-10 minutes) of the house. There are also several pleasant hikes nearby including at Borden Pond and the Ooms Conservation Area. In winter, the Catamount Ski Area usually has about 35 downhill runs open. In summer, Catamount converts into an aerial adventure park.
Chatham and its environs host a lively arts scene. You can visit Art Omi, a sculpture park about 15 minutes drive from the house which is home to amazing, monumental outdoor art. If antiques are your jam, visit Hudson which is a 30 minute drive away, and have a meal at one of the great restaurants there (we love the high-end Oak pizzeria / wine bar). For live dance, theater and music, try PS21, about 10 minutes drive from the house. Tanglewood is about 1/2 an hour away.
Once you've built up an appetite swimming, hiking or antiquing, there are several excellent places to eat nearby. The Bartlett House Bakery and Cafe in Ghent, NY (15 minutes drive) makes some of the best baked goods we've ever had; don't leave without trying the twice baked pistachio croissant. The delights at Bimi's Cheese Shop in Chatham Village are to die for. We also love a nice dinner, especially the salmon, at the Blue Plate, right in town.
Not quite in the neighborhood, but New York City is 2 1/2 hour drive away. You can also take an Amtrak train from Penn Station to Hudson, NY, and take a $25 taxi from there if you don’t want to drive.
