We booked this hotel as we wanted a hotel that was central to the heel of the boot of Italy so we could travel to the various towns like Lecce, Otranto, Ostuni, Gallipoli etc which were all within about an hour of the hotel. We arrived at Cellino san Marco just after midday and found there was nothing open in the town, no movement at all and thought we had come to a film set of the remake of "On The Beach", a film about a neuclear disaster. We found the hotel okay and one of the staff was awaiting us and after being booked in we were supplied with a light lunch since everything else in the town was closed.
Our room was spacious, had a very comfortable big bed, a good roomy bathroom, plenty of storage space, a fridge but no in room tea or coffee. We were on the first floor that overlooked the street. car parking was free in the street outside. The wi fi connection was a bit intermittent, dropping out occasionally. Breakfast was very good with plenty of options, good coffee but no hot food apparently. The management were most helpful and gave us assistance to local restuarants and places to visit.
The town had a certain charm to it of an evening when it came to life and shops opened and the old men came to the town centre to play cards and sit and talk. The nearby ice cream shop lady was also very friendly giving us big serves of her delicious ice cream
