Enjoy a Sea View while Staying under Cefalu's Spectacular Cliff!

If you need cheap flights from North America or other parts of Europe to Sicily before booking, please ask me.(Yes, you can fly direct from USA to Sicily sometimes!) I have been finding bargain travel deals for my own trips to Sicily over the past ten years, and I would be happy to share my expertise with you. I might be aware of certain airports, airlines, routes, and special offers that don't pop up on the major seach engines.

Also if you are interested in a longer stay during the cooler months (Jan., Feb., early Mar., Nov., Dec.) let's talk and see if we can arrange for you to stay at this quieter time of year in Cefalu, when you can feel snug and warm inside the house while looking out at a constantly changing sea, sometimes furious and other times perfectly calm and full of fishing boats.

WELCOME TO CASA DEL FARO! This beautiful home is uniquely located directly across the street from a rocky Mediterranean beach and has a steep backyard of 80 square meters (800 square feet) leading to a 200-m (700 feet) massive cliff. It is one of several townhouses carved out of a restructured stone spaghetti factory in 2005.

The house has a total area of 60 square meters (600 square feet), evenly split between two floors. Downstairs you will enjoy a single large room with two sofas, TV and DVD player, coffee table, dining table with six chairs, and fully-equipped kitchen with hand-painted tiles from Caltigirone, along with a half-bath. Do you like antiques? Well, in Dec. 2010 we just brought in 3 matching pieces of living room furniture manufactured in the 1890s in Palermo by the Dacrot factory, including two matching end chairs, and a marble-topped lamp table. The large living room window looks directly onto the Mediterranean, while the back-door looks out onto the famous Cliff of Cefalu. Upstairs you will also enjoy waking up to crashing surf and an unobstructed view of the Mediterranean from the master bedroom, with large double bed, armoire, and chest of drawers, decorated with nautical motifs. Enjoy the collection of lovely hand-painted, traditional Sicilian ceramics from the nearby town of Santo Stefano! There is also a junior bedroom decorated with Sicilian puppets, with two twin beds, armoire, and view of the cliff. The full bathroom has a shower, toilet, bidet, and sink.

Outside CASA DEL FARO boasts two beautiful areas for your dining enjoyment. Immediately outside the house is an outside kitchen, with gas grill, sink, and food preparation counter. Help yourself to fresh herbs you might find growing there! There is a picnic table with six chairs and umbrellas here, and it is a great place to enjoy a summer breakfast. Further up the hill in the backyard you will enjoy dining under the gazebo on the beautiful hand-crafted table of black Sicilian volcanic stone, decorated with an enamel surface painted with a fruit fantasy. From here you can look out over the top of the red-tiled roof toward the historic center of Cefalu or outward toward the Eolian islands, a volcanic archipelago most easily visible during the winter months.

Several kinds of beach experiences are available. Directly across the street from CASA DEL FARO is a stairway leading down to a rocky beach, which is a good place to sunbathe away from the madding crowds even in the summer. It is OK for swimming when the sea is calm. I personally prefer to go a half-kilometer (third of a mile) into town to the Old Port, where there is a small free public beach behind a jetty, where the water is always calm. Beyond this point lies a plethora of private beaches, where you pay to rent your chair and umbrella. The beach season lasts roughly from April through the first week of November.

Aside from good restaurants, Cefalu offers great opportunities for those who want to cook on their own. You can enjoy a cafe and wineshop in the same complex of buildings as CASA DEL FARO or you can walk 200 meters into town to satisfy most of your culinary needs.

CASA DEL FARO is a 15-minute walk from the train station, with frequent connections to Palermo. In the summer several ferries a day go from Cefalu harbor (only 200 meters from the house) to Palermo and the Eolian Islands. Parking is always available at the new harbor, but in many ways it is easier to enjoy Cefalu without a car, since the streets in the medieval quarter are quite narrow and tend to have heavy pedestrian traffic. No parking is available directly in front of the house. In town you can find many agencies happy to organize tours to Agrigento, Mount Etna, Monreale, and most other points of interest in Sicily. Don't forget to visit Cefalu's lovely twelfth-century cathedral with its famous Byzantine mosaics and the lovely Osterio Magno, with its Arab architectural influence!

Parking in Cefalu is tight in the warmer months. The city has some free guest parking spaces, painted white, up the street about 80 m from Casa del Faro. Additional free public parking is available 200 m downhill at the marina. NEVER PARK IN A YELLOW SPACE! They are reserved for locals.

PLEASE NOTE! THIS HOUSE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE TROUBLE WITH CLIMBING STAIRS, but it should present no problem to someone with normal health.

Perfect Cefalu Location
Ideal location just outside the old town and away from the hubbub of the new, this house was perfect for our needs. Good communication for check-in. Well equipped. Loved the rocky area opposite. Good value. We would happily book again if visiting Cefalu.

Beautiful little place to enjoy cefalu
We had a great stay. The location of the acommodation is perfect: you can reach the old town of cefalu within 5 minutes, but you also have a relatively quiet place to relax. The place could use a little bit love, but it’s very handsome an as two persons, we had a very nice time and would recommend and come back. A car is helpful, since the next supermarket is a 20 minute walk (and you will need some water). Quick and easy communications with the team. Another tip: visit the caldura beach. It‘s way more relaxed than the beach at cefalu center and just a 20 minute walk from the apartment.

Was a very nice apartment well equipped clean and everything you could wish for away from home.
We had two weeks here and it was just fabulous the owner even phoned to see if every thing was okay nice touch. The apartment is ideally located not far from the old town with its shops and plentiful resteraunts and the most delicious ice cream ever however there are three resteraunts just over the road from the apartment so you don’t have to go far if you don’t want to. The beach is not far away a nice walk through the cobbled street but watch out for the traffic. My only down side to the apartment was that it says top terrace with sea views which is right but you could not eat up there as the steps are too steep to Carry any food up and I think it’s been a while since it’s been used . Would still give it 5 stars

Extreme disappointment.
We family of four were looking forward to our stay at Mark's place but we were not able to do so. Mark's apartment was our second stop on our Southern Italy touring holiday and we had driven there from London. When we had booked all three properties, them being in: Napoli, Sicily and Bari for this holiday, we had been assured that there is free parking available for our large VW at every property, with this facility being listed on each of the three Home Away adverts. When we have arrived to stay at Mark's place we were greeted by Mark's neighbour and she informed us that there is nowhere to park and we should contact Mark directly to try to solve this issue. Mark lives in US and the phone call I had to make was very expensive and did not resolve anything and he told us that there is no parking with this property and we should find parking at the near-by marina. Cefalu is a very busy town with most parking for residents only, therefore we could not find any parking. I called Mark again about the parking situation, but he had no answer. As the night was approaching we were desperate to find a roof over our heads with parking for our van and we decided that there is no other option but to abandon Mark's place and find a hotel. Next day I contacted Home Away and they agreed with us that Mark had misrepresented advertising his property and he should refund our money. Our stay in Sicily cost us an extra 700 euro and Mark has not refunded our payment.

Great location
Lovely cottage in a great location. The property in accessed via stairs and a short walk at the back. Close enough to the beautiful old town, shops, bars and a beautiful but busy beach so get up early for a swim.

Cottage on the sea :)
The cottage is in a great location - across the road from a set of steps leading directly to the sea. We swam there every day apart from one when the waves were a little choppy. There are 3 restaurants next to the property- each one has lovely food and great service. Only a 5-10 min into the town with lots of shops, restaurants and lido beaches. Mark was a pleasure to deal with. His communications were always prompt and thorough - and he even called me directly to answer a query I had whilst in the property. The rental company that look after checkin were also great to communicate with. Overall a fantastic property, in a great place.

Nice apartment on the outskirts of the old town, overlooking the water. Clean and comfy.
Apartment is clean, comfortable and well appointed. There are a few flights of stairs up/down to access the apartment so not suitable for people with mobility issues, however fine for the able bodied. The apartment is a short stroll from the centre. It was nice to be a short distance away from the crowds, but an easy walk back to the lovely town centre and beach. There are a few nice restaurants directly across the road so not essential to head back to town. We got lost trying to locate the apartment (dud GPS took us to pedestrian only street) and Sergio the property manager very helpfully sent a colleague to escort us to the property.

According to locals first week in Spring, but plenty hot for us northerners. Pleasant and rustic accommodation. Great location for exploring Cefalù but walking required to meet up with coach for trips elsewhere. Parking not as near as expected and uphill home.

A great spot for a relaxing few days
We were three friends travelling together and Mark’s house was perfect for us. Driving from Taormina we were welcomed by Sergio who was so helpful during our stay. We found parking in the nearby marina although we then didn’t move the car for three days. Cars are not needed in Cefalù so unless you really have to I would advise not driving. The house is in a perfect location just outside the old town, comfortable and well equipped with outside space. Only suggestion would be to have a few basics - olive oil, salt and pepper etc available for guests as it would have encouraged us to use the kitchen more! That said there are great options for eating out in Cefalù, some just outside the house. We would definitely recommend the climb up La Rocca which looms over the town - the view is extraordinary - and we loved the small beach in the old fishing port.

Enchanted April (May) 2019
We rented this townhouse for a full month in the spring. This property has my unconditional approval! Great location, comfortable, great views! great restaurants just below you! Good management, thorough communications, very informative. I’d buy this property if Mr Meeks would be interested in selling!!! Did I mention what a wonderful town Cefalu is, to live in and explore? Only constructive criticism I might offer, move the beautiful hand panted table from the hill, onto the back patio....(store the trash containers against the dividing fence, in lieu of counters). Thanks so much for sharing this magical place! Ciao!

Lovely small house overlooking the sea
A lovely stay in a small house overlooking the sea, five minutes from the medieval streets of Cefalu and above a small fishing port. Beautifully appointed, warm and friendly. Well situated for train journeys to Palermo, San Stefano and other coastal towns; or by car for the wonderful steep roads, hidden valleys and remote towns of the Madonie.

A Quiet, Peaceful Time to Visit Cefalu
We had a great time staying in Cefalu during the low season, when there was plenty of parking and the local people had more time to interact with us and be even more hospitable. Almost every night we could watch the fisherman at work from our front windows. They seemed to be fishing for squid, and we were able to buy fresh fish directly from fishermen who sold their catch fresh from little wheelbarrows on the main street in town. The heating in the house worked great and the decor was charming.

Lovely house with a great view
The house is within easy walking to the old town. The beds are comfortable and you have a great sea view. The house is as advertised Being just outside the old town makes for quiet nights. We took a bus trip to Castlebuono which was the highlight of our stay. Cefalu is also an easy train trip into Palermo.

Let the waves lull you to a restful sleep!
What a lovely and comfortable home away from home. This home has everything you would need for a restful vacation. It comfortably accomodated our party of 3 adults and 1 child and we were never crowded or lacked our space. Television is in Italian (as would be expected) and there is a DVD player, so you can bring your favorite movies. Cooking facilities were more than adequate and the table is wonderful for having family dinners while looking out to the sea. (The flowers, and basil, in the window boxes added to the overall comfort) Out back are two spaces, one right outside with table, chairs and umbrella to shield you from Sicilian sun. Up the stairs out back is an outstanding location for dining on a lava rock table, hand painted, and while dining you have 180 degree view of the sea. There is gated access, two restaurants downstairs and an art gallery for browsing. Tip: Go to the right as you exit for amazing views. On Saturdays, go further that way and uphill for an outdoor market where you can buy fresh vegetables, salted cod, and cheese made by the man who sells it to you! I love Cefalu', it's relaxing and these accomodations give the feeling that you're a "local".

WONDERFUL STAY AT CASA DEL FARO
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this quaint and charming two bedroom townhome in Cefalu italy ( SICILY )The master bedroom boasted a pamoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea across the street. Our two sons, ages 11 and 8, slept in the twin beds in the second bedroom. We loved strolling to downtown Cefalu which was a 10 minute walk and our boys had a great time exploring the sea shore across the street. Boys being boys, we left them on their own as they brought back rocks and sea shells. We parked our rental car for free at a near by Marina, as it is impossible to find parking in high season in downtown Cefalu. Completely restored to modern standards, the house has adequate Air conditioning, internet and intersting artworks and antiques .We thoroughly enjoyed cooking at home . The kitchen was well equipped with many pots and pans, cooking utensils, glassware etc It is obvious that the American owner loves to cook and entertain when he is using this lovely Italian get away... The BBQ area outside is like an outdoor kitchen and we ate under the grapevines with a view of the Mediterreanean Sea. Cefalu has some great restaurants. We liked LA BRACCE located downtown the best. The owner was easy to contact by e mail and called us on the landline to welcome us and to make sure that everything was in order. We were happy to deal with a native speaker of English who accepted the payment in dollars! The Italian staff who helps out is most hospitable and available if a need arises. We would recommend this vacation home to couples and small families. Four people is ideal.

wonderful Thanksgiving in Cefalu
My husband and I celebrated Thanksgiving at the townhome. This was our first time in Sicily and we truly enjoyed our week in Cefalu. The kitchen is very clean and well equiped - we were able to fix meals there with no problems, including Thanksgiving with the traditional turkey, potatoes, dressing and home made pumpkin pie. Having the restaurant, Bar del Faro, so close was quite convenient for those times we didn't want to cook. The townhome accurately met the description, the location, and the posted photos, no surprises there. We would recommend staying here to family and friends, especially if we could come along for a second visit here with them. The Capella Normana and the church at Monreale were spectacular- have never seen such beautiful mosaics in such abundance. Would recommend both along with the cathedral in Cefalu altough its mosaics are not as impressive. The market in Palermo was also interesting to see. We took the bus to Castelbuono 1 day and enjoyed the trip up and back winding through the mountains and wandering around the town. The bus left from the train station. The trains to and from Palermo were reliable both times and we only had a 10 minute delay one of the mornings.

Perfect Location in Gorgeous Cefalu
My husband & I enjoyed a very nice stay at this townhouse. The accommodation was very clean & provided us with everything we needed. There are two floors to the rental with a narrow stairwell to consider if you have young children or have difficulty with stairs. Also, there is a street that runs along the front of the building and you do hear the cars & scooters in the mornings & early evenings. I am a light sleeper but used earplugs & I slept well. The walk into the main town is not far at all & provides you with beautiful views of the sea. We were able to park our car for free at the recommended nearby harbor and never had a problem. Cefalu really is a beautiful city, and the townhouse is well located to explore Cefalu & the nearby towns. I would readily recommend this townhouse.

A Warm Trinacria Welcome!
Casa del Faro is located in a pretty spot & a quick walk into the heart of Cefalu. The US based owner was very responsive to all questions & we knew he was readily available via email. It's great having internet access in the apartment. Our group of 4 was in the apartment for a week. The first night we ate downstairs at "La Trinacria" (which is the name of Sicily's 3-legged symbol), owned by Salvatore. By the end of the evening, we had met his buddies, and he has taken us under his wing, as if we were part of an extended family. We ended up having several more meals there, and at least cappuccino, if nothing else. Salvatore and his family are delightful people. We also very much enjoyed his friend, Nicola's restaurant, "Kentia", an easy walk. "Le Chat Noir" had a pasta dish, which was one of the best we had during our three weeks in Italy. Mussels were excellent everywhere. Since we had a car, we were able to take side trips. Our longest day trip was to Agrigento, to the Valley of the Temples. Definitely worth it, however, we would recommend staying a few days on the east/south side of Sicily and doing those sights from a home base on that end, rather than making the drive from Cefalu. The roads are windy, and it's a long day. Don't plan on finding lunch in the small villages along the way; everything closes up during "siesta". Taking the train to Palermo for the day was hassle-free. Buy a good, detailed map of Palermo when you get off, at the train station. You will be glad you paid the 5 Euro. The small maps in tourist books are not adequate, if you are adventurous. Palermo was not "scary", as it is portrayed by some. It's chaotic, busy, fast-paced, interesting. We are experienced travelers so we were fine with it. You have to be good at dodging Vespas and cars. Sometimes you have a sidewalk, and then you don't. Be sure to visit the outdoor market -- a feast for the senses! The catacombs are bizarrely fascinating. Take the car into the hills & visit Sant' Gibilmana & Castelbuono. A matter of taste, but we found the ceramic shop in Cefalu (on Corso Ruggero) to have finer quality than the ceramic factories in S. Stefano. We'd planned to some prepare meals in the apartment; this wasn't as practical as we had hoped. The kitchen is tiny. One shower & the smaller second bedroom make it "tight" for 4 adults. It's fine, just know it's not spacious. We'd recommend it to friends who are in good physical shape, & who enjoy a "local" feel.

Under the Rock
We recently stayed at this apartment for 4 nights. The listing description was accurate and it is a great location (within easy walking distance to town) and the photos do reflect the actual place. It was clean and well equipped and the owner was very thorough with directions, instructions etc. The only improvement we would recommend is to have more counter space, perhaps by putting the microwave under a cabinet. We ate at;one of the restaurants below (the one run by the store below) and it was excellent. The store has just about everything you would need. I would definitely recommend this property. Thanks Mark.
