Sangria Sunrise - Lake Leelanau Chalet

One of the most recognizable houses on South Lake Leelanau, this cedar chalet-style cottage with full glass lake view offers you private access to this lake that is equally famous for its unparalleled water sports and excellent fishing! The 23 mile long natural spring-fed lake is crystal clear and flows through the Leelanau peninsula north into Lake Michigan at Leland. Our cottage is located on the west side of the south end of Lake Leelanau within walking distance to Bel Lago Winery in a cove that is typically sheltered from the prevailing winds making it a preferred water skiing and wake boarding area. Three sets of off-shore drop-offs also make this cove a fishing mecca for walleye and small mouth bass. Our property offers a spectacular view of the lake and is perfect for all of your summer time activities with family and friends.

You will understand how the cottage got its name 'Sangria Sunrise' as you enjoy your morning coffee on our upper deck which has an unbelievable view of the sun as it rises over the lake in the morning. As you sit at the end of our 160' private dock in the evening, you will enjoy the last rays of the setting sun over the bluffs as you watch the guys troll for walleye just off of the end of our dock. Bring your own boat or rent one and tie it up to one of the concrete tire anchors we provide. We also offer two kayaks free with the house rental. The kids will love the hard sand bottom and knee high water that extends to the end of the dock where they can play for hours. There are steps off of the dock for easy lake entry and a ladder is available at the end of the dock for the swimmers. A unique outside hot-water shower with platform and enclosure is built onto the side of the cottage for the swimmers to shower off when the day's swimming is done. As the sun retreats for the night, the fun is only beginning. Adults can enjoy a glass of local wine in our private hot tub set into our lower deck while watching the kids roast marshmallows and make smores over the fire in the fire pit on the lower patio.

This is boater's and swimmer's heaven! In the morning, take advantage of the flat water in our cove for water skiing or enjoy the excellent fishing just yards away. Our cove is routinely fished for walleye, smallmouth & rock bass, perch, bluegill, and northern pike. As the heat of the day rises, the skiers are joined by the boaters and waver runners cruising the shoreline. The kids and the dogs can splash in the shallow waters in the extended swim area in front of the house as the older family members soak up the sun on the patio. Take your boat to Leland for lunch and shopping, or cruise up the Victoria Creek through the nature preserve to the town of Cedar for ice cream. Or if you prefer, the adults can cruise 10 mins to the south end of the lake to the Tiki Bar at Perrin's Landing for a drink and gas for the boat. Many boaters enjoy the numerous sand bars just minutes from our house where they anchor there boat and swim in the shallow warm summer waters and socialize with other boaters. If you want to get further away, there is an incredible variety of activities in Traverse City just 20 minutes away, or more intimate things to do in the small coastal towns of Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay, Empire or Leland. Scattered around the area are over a dozen wineries, breweries, distelleries and fruit farms. If you seek more excitement, Lake Michigan beaches, the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, and charter fishing are just minutes away.

Our house has 3 bedrooms, including a master bedroom on the main floor, and a larger guest bedroom and bunkroom with 6 bunk beds on the upper floor. We have a full bathroom with shower on the main floor across from the master bedroom, and a jack-n-jill full bathroom with shower connecting the guest bedroom and bunkroom on the upper floor. The fully equipped kitchen and attached great room with stone fire place open up on to the expansive upper deck which provides incredible views up and down the lake. The lower floor has a den with TV as well as access to the lower deck & patio with fire pit and our private hot tub. All floors are either hard wood or ceramic tile for easy upkeep. Our house is at the end of a private road, so peace and quiet are a given.

Beautiful Lake House
Sangria Sunrise is a beautiful "Up North" chalet on South Lake Leelanau. It was better than advertised. The home was clean and well maintained and even had a welcome bottle of wine from the vineyard up the road. It has a hot tub, kayaks and a row boat for guests to use. We had a great vacation and will be back.

Lovely home
Beautiful home and lake! Clean and comfortable. We went in June which is a little too cold to swim. Next time we will wait until July or August to enjoy Michigan.

Beautiful home for 2+ families
Sangria Sunrise was beautiful. It was a quiet and relaxing long weekend away from Chicago. The home is well laid out, with a recreational room for our 3 year old to play with legos, and a room with bunk beds adjacent to one of the bedrooms. There are wide open windows facing the lake and the sunrise.

Family vacation
Plenty to do at this lake house. My young grandchildren enjoyed the large shallow water area. We had a boat and spent the day on the water and our nights in the hot tub or making smores in the fire pit. I would recommend this place to friends.

Perfect girls weekend
Lovely home. Beautifully decorated. Very spacious. Perfectly situated on Lake Leelanau. Had all of the kitchen equipment that we needed. Lots of games and books to use. The three levels meant that there was lots of space for everyone.

Great house in great location
We had a wonderful stay here over Labor Day weekend. The house is in great shape and very well-designed. The lake access is perfect, and the shallow water with sandy bottom meant that even our young children could enjoy the water. The yard is very small and the house is very close to neighbors on both sides, which could have been an issue if the neighbors hadn't been absolutely LOVELY, giving us dry firewood after a storm, offering cocktails, and generally sharing their space. (We also got lucky that the couple on one side had grandkids visiting, and the children all played together all weekend.) We spent most of our time in the back, playing in the water, fishing off the pier, lounging in the hot tub, grilling on the deck, roasting marshmallows, and all that other stuff that marks the best summer vacations. The owners were very responsive when we arrived to find a trail of ants on the main floor and an active wasp nest over the front door. Both were gone within 24 hours. Note that the wireless Internet wasn't working at all when we were there, so if that's a priority for you it might be worth checking with the owners before booking to make sure it's active.

The house was everything we had hoped for, and perfectly located.
We loved staying here as a family of four plus grandparents. The sandy shallow water were hours of fun for the kids and allowed us to relax. Close enough to all the attractions like tc, Leland and sleeping bear. Would definitely recommend to others.

Happiness is this Home!
We stayed the week of June 23rd. The house, the views, and the sunrises were nothing short of amazing. I would highly recommend this home to anyone who needs to unplug and get in touch with what is important.
