This delightful stone cottage provides comfortable accommodation for up to 5 +1 baby and is less than 1km from the popular Lac de Guerlédan, a stunning lake 7 miles long that provides an abundance of activities for couples and families of all ages.
The property is in the heart of Brittany in the hamlet of Kergoff, tucked away up a quiet lane providing beautiful views. It is within walking distance (1km) to the village of Caurel. Caurel has a 6 restaurants and cafe/bars. There is also a wonderful glass making workshop and gallery where you can book a half day workshop and take home a piece of your own glass work.
There are numerous things to do in the area and the cottage is perfectly situated for those who love watersports. There is no shortage of activities from swimming, skiing, canoeing, pedaloes, and fishing. Also in the area, horse riding, quad bike hire and for the less energetic, plenty of wonderful cafes and restaurants to watch these from!
Mur de Bretagne is a charming town only a ten minute drive away and here there are supermarkets, shops, restaurants, markets, banks, post office and church and of course the wonderful boulangeries for delicious bread and patisseries!
You can also walk or cycle into Mur de Bretagne along the cycle track close to the cottage which was once a rural railway line. It goes for about 15 km to Mur de Bretagne in one direction and 45 km in the other direction to Carhaix. The Brest/Nantes canal is about 2 miles away (it runs into and out of the lake). The tow path is flat and suitable for walking and cycling.
Not far from the cottage is picturesque Bon Repos. The Abbey, situated at the side of canalis worth a visit. Every Sunday from May to October there is an artisan's market here. Also a couple of bars and a creperie. Each August, for two weeks, a spectacular "Son et Lumiere" is performed after dark. This is not to be missed!
Pontivy, about 25 minutes drive away, is a beautiful market town. A market is held each Monday, throughout the year. There is also a chateau in the town and numerous eating and drinking places. Also three large supermarkets.
JOSSELIN (50 mins) – Is a very popular place, where there is a perfectly preserved stunningly beautiful chateau which is a medieval fortress and is still lived in by the Duke & Duchess of Rohan. This wonderful Chateau has been rated (2017) as the 3rd best chateau in the whole of France! It's a must see along with the Chateau's Dolls Museum which is open to visitors from April to October, there are tours in English daily during the summer.
Bastille Day - 14th July - This is a very important date in history for the French which sets the storming of the Bastille in 1789. It has become a major public holiday with numerous celebrations going on throughout France, Josselin is no exception and holds a Medieval Festival every 2 years, (re-enactment of medieval times) in the cobbled streets with its half timbered medieval houses, next one being in 2024.
The cottage consists of:
Two bedrooms upstairs; one large double bedroom and a further bedroom to sleep three. Bunk beds with double mattress at bottom and single on top,providing flexible accommodation options.
All bed linen and towels are provided. (Cot bedding is not provided)
There is a private enclosed south facing garden that provides a wonderful sun trap. Relax and use the patio garden furniture (two loungers also provided) and enjoy the evenings with a glass of wine. A Bbq is provided for al fresco dining. The ground floor bathroom is presented as a "wet room". There is also a Wc and sink. There is an additional separate toilet and sink upstairs too.
The modern, light and airy kitchen is well equipped with cooker, kettle, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, iron/ironing board and all the necessary kitchen utensils. There is also a dining table in this area and a highchair is available. There is a Nespresso coffee machine with 10 pods, further pods can be bought at the local Intermarche supermarket.
The lounge has a comfortable three piece suite, with recliner function. The lovely granite fireplace makes it perfect for cozy evenings in the cooler months. There is a Tv with English and French channels, Dvd player and Cd player. There is a large selection of books and games for indoor use.
